Dedicate a sacrosanct 15 minutes to writing (or outlining at first) a day, do that for a week, then make it 30 minutes, repeat until you’re at ~4 hours / day after several months. Then maintain it!

You can still do that stuff - but at night after all the stuff you *actually* want to do is finished. You need to do the most important things to you as soon as you wake up. That's how you ingrain the habit, and soon you'll find there's not a single day where you haven't spent at least SOME time working on your passion.

Consistency is far more important than intensity. Slow is steady and steady is fast.

You will never be a real writer. You have no talent, you have no imagination, you have no insight. You are a pretentious man twisted by greed and vanity into a crude mockery of literary aspirations.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your tedious attempts to be witty behind closed doors.

Readers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of analysis have allowed critics to sniff out pseuds with incredible efficiency. Even hacks who “sell” seem uncanny and unnatural to a reader. Your sentence structure is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a contract, the audience will toss your book in the trash the second they get a glance at your stilted, awkward prose.

You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it just needs a little more editing before you can start looking for an agent, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and pull a DFW. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to tell you that your latest story was "good, but don't you think you should start getting serious about your future?" They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your birth name, and no passerby for the rest of eternity will ever know that you used to refer to yourself with two first initials. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a self-pub that is unmistakably cringe.

just start doing something remotely productive, the wheel of motivation can be entered at any point. motivation leads to action which leads to an out come which leads to clarity which leads to desire which leads to motivation.

if you don't have the motivation, begin with action regarding something related, and the motivation will ensue.

other wise, get used to doing things when you don't want to, "discipline is doing something you hate, like you love it"

literally just open the word dock in front of you and just have it open and put on a timer for twenty minutes, work for twenty minutes, then take a five minute break.

The best thing you Can do is learn to animate blender porn. If you stick to just drawing you will have to draw furries and vore to make some money.

          Anonymous

Started doing blender last year. The first few months were exciting. But now I'm just getting frustrated at the limitations 3D presents. I didn't realize how inaccurate bones and rigging actually is. But now that I'm doing it, I'm getting annoyed that I can't give my characters a real sense of mass. There's a shit ton of other technical hurdles just to get basic stuff done. Like, I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to animate veganas and buttholes. Because they deform so much, there's a lot of folds and flaps, and they're all in a very tight area. How does one manage to make it look realistic with collision and physics? How do you model such a tight zone without making all the parts clip into each other or collapse?

It's going to take me more years to get good at this, and in the end, it will just look like the same puppety inorganic animation that everyone else is doing. It won't actually be good.

AIs are already starting to be used for modelling as well. So by the time I'm good, AI modelling and AI animation will have taken it to the next level.

I make a nice passive income from books that I guarantee are worse than yours and I know they are worse because it sounds like you put some spirit in. Is it actually easy to self-publish on Amazon? Do they have very strict rules, formatting and all that jazz? Also, how long does the work have to be? I've got a story of my own, around 50-60k words, half edited, half under rewrites. Was just wondering where is the best place to set it up...

Go look it up. Amazon lists up all the rules.

Self publishing on ebook sites could cost you more. Amazon basically takes a cut and wants you to stay exclusive for some times to amazon only.

Thanks for the replies, I'm gonna probably look into it way more seriously. I can then also say the factually correct thing of being a published author.
I'm on Wattpad atm, but getting like 30 reads for the week it's been up. I had 50x more reads on the beta version of the story on the literotica. Probably keeping it there until I have the needed word count to put it up on amazon.

Dude. There are so many stories out there and most of them are crap. Even famous works and authors have crap thats famous. Sometimes hype and nostalgia cloud the senses. Sometimes its just the flair, the right times or the right audience that needs to read your book. As long as your structure is solid and your story has a point, is interesting to read ... it all comes down to subjectivity. Put it on Amazon or self publish it on ebook sites.

You have to understand that people who critique others works and dont write themselves tend to put certain things to an unrealistic standard. Look at Terry Pratchett. Overall a good read, but his books and writing have many flaws. They are not in the way of enjoying his books, but writers and fans don't allow any criticism about him or his writing. Older, long dead authors are put on a pedestral and if you actually read their stories you would think, if this was made today, it would not gain that much recognition. A huge part of writing with success is to ignore the chance of failing, enjoying what you do and doing it with integritiy. All of which GRR Martin forgot. You have no excuse not to get your shit out there, because there ARE people who would enjoy your work. Good luck.

Even if he's still able to get it up, the only women willing to frick him would be blown-out crack prostitutes in their 50's. It doesn't matter how much money he has, facts are facts.

Women do all kinds of way more disgusting shit for the right price. He's just a fat frick, that's literally nothing special. 10/10 women, escorts or otherwise, don't frick morbidly obese senior citizens with hygiene problems. They don't need to; there's plenty of middle-aged simps around. GRRRRRM's only choice, provided he can still get it up (which is doubtful at his age), are late middle-aged crack prostitutes. Sorry to burst your incel bubble, but that's the truth.

    >How do you fail to complete a book in a 2 year lockdown?
Because he's not working on it. He's doing lore books, which is just sperging ideas without needing to deal with the drudgery of making plots actually work or having prose actually flow. His whole schtick was writing scenes and now he's basically excused himself from doing that entirely.

As for Winds, he almost certainly scrapped what he had in 2019 after GoT ended with the final reveals and just never fully resumed it.

This is probably it. Seeing the show go from the top of the world to the bottom of the fish tank demoralized him completely. The public collectively memory holed themselves regarding the ending and the show and don't want to remember it anymore. No point in pouring more of his now very limited time before he croaks into the book when he could be buttering up another lobster.

Yep. This is a frequently overlooked observation. How many obese writers are out there? Not many. I can think of a few who could lose a few pounds but most are actually reasonably fit. It turns out there is a lot of crossover between those working habits and those eating habits. You see a lot of fat frick fans but not many fat authors.

The story hasn't even reached the halfway point in the books. All of the storylines are still spiraling outward away from the beginning. It's worse than he hasn't nailed the ending. He hasn't even figured out how to stop making it worse by making it bigger. He hasnt pivoted the characters/storylines back towards a conclusion. Acting like there are only two books left is ridiculous unless he's about to abruptly kill-off a few major ones.

Preston's version will never be anything except fanfiction. I like the guy, but he's pretty delusional at times, and seems to lack the ability to understand the irrationality of humans. He will never understand why some characters just do stupid or impulsive shit sometimes.

Also, to be more accurate: Preston is gathering writings from multiple fans, and stitching them together. So he's more editor than writer.

unfinished stories don't have a chance to disappoint you with the ending. part of me thinks Martin got real spooked by how fast people turned on his series after the GoT finale. probably doesn't wanna risk a repeat he'll be held more accountable for by hiring a ghostwriter.

I don't get why he would be spooked tho. Like, it's TV. There wasn't enough time to build up to the ending properly so we couldn't digest it at all. A book is a whole other thing....he could fricking redeem the TV show ending by having the space to build up to a more believable ending. No it wasn't. GRRM talks about how he won't change much of anything now, because it's important to give the proper pay offs to what has been foreshadowed. The fact is: Dany going crazy and burning King's Landing hasn't been properly foreshadowed in either book or show. D&D tried to hamfist a losing desperate Dany plot at the very end of the story, and nobody bought into it, that's why it got panned. George was never going to make such a mistake.

Literally half of the last book is just repeating "Targs go mad, Dany'smad, get it" while she's burning children alive. How the frick did people actually miss that.

          Anonymous

          Here's a direct quote:
          >“Madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin. Every time a new Targaryen is born, the gods toss the coin in the air and the world holds its breath to see how it will land.”
The takeaway here, is that there is a high chance, but you have to wait and see how it plays out. George instills the *fear* that Dany *might* become mad. And holding your breath is a form of suspense. So the reader is being held in great suspense, waiting to see if Dany goes mad or not.

However, she won't because of all the other stuff that indicates she's mastering her anger, where other characters have failed. She's making people love her, where other characters have been ruling through fear.

Dany is the good side to Viserys's bad side.
Dany is the good side to Cersei's bad side. Cersei shows a lot of mad Targaryen symbolism. most notably the way she uses wildfire to burn down the tower. She's a "what if" scenario for a mad Dany. But at a much smaller scale.
Dany is the good side to Young Griff's bad side. This part is yet to be seen. But Young Griff has already shown signs of having a temper and taking insults poorly. He's the one going to tilt into madness when he realizes that everything he was groomed to be is threatened to be taken away from him by Dany.

What if they both go mad? It's just that Daenerys is a commentary that the road to hell is paved with good intentions?

She's supposed to represent what Sauron looks like from the POV of people who aren't aware of her story like the readers do. As stupid as Dumb & Dumber were, they rightfully depicted how Daenerys' army was a force of foreign invaders.

            Look at what she has:

            - 3 vicious dragons that will burn everything in their path
            - Dothraki who've pillaged, raped, murdered, enslaved, and turned farmland into grassland
            - Unsullied who will obey her every command without question and they fervently believe in her as a goddess figure
            - Sellswords who are not going to be nice to any citizens of cities and towns they besiege regardless if Daenerys tries to discipline them
            - And she's probably gonna get Victarion's Ironborn who are notorious for reaving for generations

Does this look like a shining princess-in-exile coming to liberate a land she has no idea about or never stepped foot in?

Look at the 163 masters she crucified in Meereen. She even justifies it to herself. She may not even go full-out Targ mad; she's even worse; a savior who believes in her own righteousness regardless of what she does.

            >“One hundred and sixty-three,” she answered.

            >She had them nailed to wooden posts around the plaza, each man pointing at the next. The anger was fierce and hot inside her when she gave the command; it made her feel like an avenging dragon. But later, when she passed the men dying on the posts, when she heard their moans and smelled their bowels and blood . . .

            >Dany put the glass aside, frowning. It was just. It was. I did it for the children.

              Anonymous

I forget who it was, but it was some character who lists all of the things she has in a bad light. Because yes, to them it does appear bad. And once again, George is instilling fear and suspense.

The fact that Dany appears like an invading force will be the cause of conflict between her and Westeros and Griff. But it won't be the truth of it. Dany made a rash decision dealing with the masters. But since then, she's begun to rethink her decisions, and now she's trying more diplomatic approaches. She wasn't even necessarily wrong for what she did. It was just callus, and potentially the cause of much conflict down the road. Meereen is a huge learning experience for her. And so she's going to make a lot of faults there, learn and grow. By trial and error, she will become a good Queen with the potential to unify everyone. But she's going to be tragically seen as an invading force who needs to be put down. Her end will be tragic because of what could have been. Not because she went mad.

I see Daenerys as a case study on what GRRM said in an interview about Aragorn.

Lord of the Rings had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the land would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years, and he was wise and good. But Tolkien doesn’t ask the question: What was Aragorn’s tax policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of flood and famine? And what about all these orcs? By the end of the war, Sauron is gone but all of the orcs aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles?”

I know Cinemaphile likes to shit on that tax policy blurb, but what interests me more is the point about the orcs. Do you genocide an entire race even its infants because of the potential threat they can cause on Middle Earth.

The same applies to the hard decisions that Daenerys, Jon, and Stannis make throughout the series. Daenerys staying in Meereen is her test. I give her credit that she needs to learn how to rule and so far, it's not going well for her. How she deals with the Meereenese knot is what will foreshadow how she will approach Westeros.

As much as people complain about Jon being a Gary Stu, his decisions in A Dance of Dragons show that he's all too human. He's more savvy than Ned, but he made a lot of short-sighted decisions like sending away his closest allies, alienating his fellow brothers, and most importantly, deciding to march onto the Dreadfort. When he got fragged by his fellow Watchmen, that's something Daenerys never dealt with; the consequences of her actions.

                >How she deals with the Meereenese knot is what will foreshadow how she will approach Westeros.
True. But remember your previous quote. Dany killed the master in order to save the babies. She's not going to genocide a whole people for "the greater good." She decides that those in power need to be removed. She only did it in such a way that she made a whole lot of enemies. She could have handled it better. But stopping slavery is tough because how exactly do you "transition" out of slavery? In almost all cases, slavery ends with a fight and a lot of people dying.

But I think that Dany is paying for her mistakes now. Sure, she hasn't died, but she's been forced to flee to the wastes after a violent uprising. And now she's mostly helpless in the desert, and about to be captured by a bunch of violent savages to be imprisoned until the day she dies. If that's not consequences, I don't know what is.

What happens when she takes King's Landing and the smallfolk turn hostile to her and her army? Or half the lords refuse to submit? Does she go all Fire & Blood to browbeat them? Burn the lord and force their children to bend the knee?

As bad as Season 7 was, the Eastwatch episode where Randyll Tarly calls out Daenerys for being a foreign invader and not his Queen is what would likey happen. And the aftermath where Randyll and his son Dickon get incinerated and the Westerland army kneeling out of fear.

And of course we're gonna have Young Griff marry Arianne Martell and he probably seizes a good chunk of Westeros. As Tyrion pointed out, Faegon has the better claim to the throne than Dany and she won't be pleased.

Then there's Stannis. She's gonna want to burn the Usurper's brother regardless that he's trying to defend the realm against the Others.

And she's hardly helpless when she had a massive flying weapon of mass destruction. Sure she has diarrhea and feeling under the weather, but chances are she's going to have those Khals join her too.

This is exactly her experiences are forcing her to answer. These are the questions that Griff has never been challenged on. What is FAEGON'S tax policy? What's to stop him from becoming mad and a terrible king? This random hidden away Prince is supposed to be the savior of the kingdom? Think about it. Dany has faults, sure. It's part of who she is as a Targaryen, and just being a young inexperienced girl. But Griff? More like Grift. He's the one George is setting up to fall. Dany just learned that she can't expect love as a given. But Griff still has the idea that he's due love because of who he is. And you know what? He might make it rather far. He might earn the respect of the men around him. But again, what's to stop him from becoming mad? He gets propped up as the rightful king, but the right king. If you catch my meaning.

Stannis is unloved. He's making too many enemies with his crazy blood-fire cult. When or if he's ever brought down, nobody but is small sect of zealots will care.

                >but chances are she's going to have those Khals join her too.
That's the most likely outcome. But she's going to reform them all. She's going to force them to stop pillaging, force the ironborn to stop pillaging too, and be a uniting force. The *idea* that she is mad, is what will cause people to work against her. And so despite all the good intentions, she will probably die young, and be remembered as a mad targaryen queen. But that will all be a fabrication written by the Maesters. Everyone else went mad.

they didn't have the resources to kill everything that moved before bombs etc.
they could burn all the crops, if orcs have crops, try to starve them - spread disease there, and sit back and wait.
but yes, if you have a threat, you do your best to wipe it out or render it completely powerless.
orcs aren't human, orcs seem to be a chaotic form of animal,

He had a big autistic hang-up over timeskips that led to the problem he's in now. He then watched as HBO did timeskips effortlessly and they haven't been perfect but the story moves on just fine. I think he realizes he fricked up massively and he doesn't want to dig himself out of a hole that was a mistake to begin with so he's stalling by doing other things.

HBO didn't do time skips though, unless you mean in HOTD. The story has the same pacing as the books, but the kid actors just inexplicably look older every year.
The first 5ish seasons of the show take place over 2 years, just like the books.

        >Usually Brandon Sanderson gets that beat.
Brandon Sanderson is a Mormon and would not write GRRM's smut. Also, his prose is significantly worse than GRRM's. He's popular because he's prolific, DEPENDABLE, and has a strong internet presence, not because his books are actually any good.

Yeah I read The Way of Kings and honestly it sucked major ass. Way too slow, the prose is weak, the payoff at the end was hardly worth the slog. And the constant backstabbing and le epic twists from the advisor guy to the king sucked.

          >HBO didn't do time skips though, unless you mean in HOTD.
They did in a round-about way that had the same effect, such as Bran disappearing for an entire season. Also, a lot of the fast traveling with defacto time skipping. GRRM's entire rationale for not doing them was that he couldn't believe nothing would happen to these characters during the interim and that applies to what HBO did. It's made even worse when it becomes obvious that Arya's arc would have been MUCH more believable had they entirely skipped her training in Braavos. Had she walked into the house of black and white or whatever with Jaquen and then she emerges a season later as the uber assasin that she was, it still wouldn't have been great but it would have been much less cringe. Watching her get hit with a stick 1000 times and then miraculously survive a stabbing didn't help.

The fat man has no idea how to end the series without pissing off his fanbase. In a way he was clever to give D&D the Cliff Notes of the ending. GRRM was having them beta-test his ideas. The complete and utter destruction that Season 8 did GOT made George realize he has to rewrite everything.

However, the 2 year pandemic made him realize there's no way he can finish up the story in 2 books AND have a conclusion that secures his legacy as the US Tolkien.

So he's just bullshitting and wasting time with pseudo-history like Fire & Blood. How the frick can people read that shit? It's not even a real storyline, just archaic renditions of lore presented as history.

The Fat Man can at least finish Dunk & Egg. That's a much easier task and I'd be fine with that series concluding with the Tragedy at Summerhall than whatever happens in ASOIAF.

    Its easy.

    >write successful books that have sloppy edges based on cliche perceptions of medieval times and historical stuff you barely understand
    >add dicks, dongs, tiddays and lotta rape and killing to it, shake and stirr (its called the GRR Martini)
    >write on an old computer with an OS older than yourself, with a work attitude as bad as your health
    >bam, get a sweet TV deal
    >tell the producers of the show how the story ends, they just need more seasons to end it properly
    >the producers fast pace and dunk it hard
    >nobody liked the ending anyways
    >wrote yourself into a corner, have no other ideas
    >instead you enjoy the easy fame, money and prostitutes you get at conventions, interviews, etc
    >instead of ending the story yourself and saving your literary legacy, you rant on twitter all day long
    >keep on writing stuff nobody asked for, or has any interest in
    >tell the internet you are content with fricking up your lifes work and name because "you dont have much time left, i rather write something i enjoy"

Thats how you don't finish a book in 2 years. He will never finish it and the one after that neither

My wife writes Fantasy. Big books. At a World Fantasy Con in Chicago. , 1995, he asked her what was the most important thing to do when you write multi-volume books. She told him you have to outline. The whole series. That way you don’t get writer’s block. He didn’t take her advice.

      >That way you don’t get writer’s block. He didn’t take her advice.
He changed the whole story outline if you look at his initial draft that he sent to publishing.

The only way he can finish the series in 2 novels is if TWOW and ADOS are each split into 2 parts. And each part is over 1000 pages. So in reality, he's gonna have to write 4 books worth of material to wrap it up.
