Although either way this is ultimately pointless. Having someone to blame for your company crashing and burning still implies the crashing and burning. Whoever comes out the other end having pinned it all on this stupid b***h is still holding a bag of shit in the end. It's 1D chess

Each film made less than the one before. And why have they waited so long to put out more SW films if it's a guaranteed hit? Also, Indiana Jones was a money losing bomb, Willow was so bad they yanked it off D+ never to be seen again, and most of her films have gone wildly over budget and required extensive reshoots. Any other person in her spot would have been fired by now.

The money spent by Disney on Star Wars is not just the production and marketing budgets for the films: it's what they spent to get the whole of Lucasfilm. Count that, and Disney Star Wars has yet to turn a profit. They made the deal sweeter for Lucas by paying half the price in Disney shares, meaning they had to make a lot more money than Marvel did. For that, they were banking on merchandise, because George Lucas didn't become a billionaire from Star Wars films, he made the big money from the licensing. Disney were hoping to replicate that, but they didn't, because they killed the golden goose.

Does Lucas still own the right to the images and reproductions of the characters and props he created? I thought he sold it in its entirety and Disney has the distribution rights and gets royalties for say the Lego X-wing as of 2019.

Modern Hollywood is run by algorithm. They want to create films that appeal to absolutely everything. That's why they are obsessed with sticking girl power into male skewed action flicks like Indian Jones and why Disney bought Star Wars. On top of that, they don't do screen tests anymore. Disney saw that Killing Eve had a lot of hype with a certain type of woman and wanted to stick Phoebe Waller-Bridge into one of their action flicks. Hollywood is always trying and failing to capture the elusive "female audience". Of course by trying to appeal to everyone they start to appeal to no one. Part of the problem is fan boys. Marvelgays and Star Wars fan boys keep shelling out $$$ to watch nu-Wars even when they hate it. When you become a slave to a franchise, that franchise will start to mistreat you and see you as a disposable pay pig. People need to actually protest with their $$$ which fan boys never do.

Producer just means funding. you "donate" a small amount of your upfront salary as an investment in the movie/show, for more returns on the back end. its why stars of long running shows will often get a producer credit after a few seasons. It doesn't mean they have any actual ideas or anything to do with the creative process it just means they get more money.

            Anonymous

Pretty much this. A producer is not really a creative position, it means you pay to make the movie and may or may not have input on who is actually hired for the creative positions.
            >written and directed by James Cameron
            Probably good.
            >produced by James Cameron
            Probably shit.
It also sometimes has to do with the original story/IP in which case many are honorary producers with no involvement besides royalties and name recognition.
