How has this never been surpassed, even in the very broad "cyberpunk" genre? Everything about this atmosphere was perfected in 1982.

>surpassed
It's a basic noir detective film with a zeerust theme, based on a novel. Please specify what you mean before making a new thread.
Aesthetics is what I meant. The movie is 40 years old yet it still looks futuristic and it probably will for a long time. Meanwhile the early 2000s sci fi craze of magical floating touch screens and robots with floating parts look extremely dated in comparison
it was more of an attempt at retro-futurism so it works because it depicts a future that was never really intended to come to pass, therefore it doesn't date. 2000s ipod sci fi was more sincere at trying to imagine what the future might actually look like so its easy to see its shortcomings
>it was more of an attempt at retro-futurism
homie it's not retro futurism just because the props are all 1980s tech. That's like calling Alien retro futurism because it makes use of CRT screens everywhere
blade runner is not an attempt at retro futurism
I, Robot and Minority Report look fricking great, gay. Will Smith's stupid omniwheel Audi is much closer to happening than anything in Blade Runner
How is the novel anyway? I was thinking about finally reading it and also maybe playing the adventure games on PC
In term of aesthetics no not really, but for the script? Yeah there are better cyberpunk movies
Script is easily the worst part but it works in the sense that the amazing production design gets to have the entire movie to itself. And name three better ones? Cyberpunk is very weak overall.
RoboCop, Dark City, Ghost in the Shell
Is Dark City really ciberpunk? It's a movie about aliens.
But no one wached those
>How has this never been surpassed
Tons of movies are better than it. Blade Runner is a shit, boring, empty emotionless popcorn movie.
>Aesthetics
But it looks like shit?
Its great, you should read it. It'll make you realize this movie is fricking garbage. Blade Runner has zero relation to Do Androids Dream in any thematic sense and in most narrative sense either.
>Its great, you should read it. It'll make you realize this movie is fricking garbage
filtered
Yeah, I don't like shitty movies. Blade Runner is completely devoid of themes and emotion because everyone involved with it totally missed the point. Every scene that should mean something had its meaning either cut out or inversed.
>Every scene that should mean something had its meaning either cut out or inversed.
what the frick are you even talking about
Like the sex scene. Rachel is supposed to be the instigator, she seduces bounty hunters to get them out of the business. And the reason for the scene is he needs her help since she looks like Pris. But in the film the scene is completely meaningless, he doesn't need her help, he isn't reluctant because of his wife. Or the owl, why does it exist and why is it mentioned?
Yes, it is. Blade Runner is the epitomy of brainless popcorn trash. Its even worse because morons praise it like its some artsy bullshit
You fricking moron. The sex scene is basically a rape. Deckard has just learned that Rachel is a replicant, and has the same legal rights as a toaster. He fricks her because he knows he can get away with it.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The filmmakers didn't get the point. They completely inversed the scene making it dumb as shit.
>Deckard has just learned that Rachel is a replicant,
Even in the movie he knows she's an andy after testing her. They fricked that scene up too. Absolute fricking morons made this movie
It's an adaptation you stupid frick. They didn't "frick up" those scenes, they were exactly as intended by the director.
>It's an adaptation
It really isn't.
>They didn't "frick up" those scenes
Yes, they didn't. They didn't get what the scenes meant. They fricked em up.
>they were exactly as intended by the director.
Which means he's a fricking moron who intended to do the movie wrong. But its more likely he read a summary of the book and so didn't bother knowing what its actually about. Prohint: it isn't about fighting "replicants". Its about empathy and emotion and the difference between legitimate displays of them and programmed responses, its about religion and media.
This is why Blade Runner is popcorn trash, its liked by certified illiterates
Blade Runner is on the same level as Transformers. Flashy trash full of meaningless action. Transformers is better, at least its fun and looks good.
>Transformers is better, at least its fun and looks good.
Lost me, be more subtle with your bait next time
Blade Runner's reputation is held up solely by how incredible the art direction and cinematography is. It's a pretty weak noir film aside from that
>Blade Runner is on the same level as Transformers.
amusing bait
Fricking moron. At the moment of the scene she's still undergoing an existential crisis of her being an artificial creature. He gave her the D to show that she is still a human being to him.
Explaining stupid bullshit the movie did with stupider bullshit doesn't make it better.
>epitomy
t. triggered pseud
>Yes, it is. Blade Runner is the epitomy of brainless popcorn trash
Terminator 2 or bayformers is popcorn trash. What you really mean to say is "I did not like Blade Runner"
>Blade Runner is completely devoid of themes and emotion
no, it's not
at all
it's about Humans being about striving for rising higher and higher, without care for limits (pro-tip: Roy is the hero, not deckard); it's about hybris (which is a good thing, since it's the engine, the heart of civilization)
that you don't realize can only mean one thing: you're a subhuman
many such cases: such is life, in the clowny yuga
blade runner is not a popcorn movie
breasts or GTFO.
Can you name some better movies then?
thank you, completely tasteless moron, very cool.
>Yeah there are better cyberpunk movies
Such as? The only one I can think of that might be better is Brazil, but it's so different that it's hard to compare.
Cyberpunk is barely a genre
amazing atmosphere, visuals are great, music is supreme, it all fits together.
are there other kinos with this atmosphere?
total recall gets some of that gritty shit, a plausible future world
Elon Musk cybertruck is straight out of total recall
Akira
Keanu reeves in Johnny mnemonic
>169000574
>But it looks like shit?
(You)
Even it's harshest genuine critics admit the art is it's strongest point and is impeccable
atmosphere hasn't been beaten yet no
i dont think it ever will
music is tasteful in this
i'd say lost highway is better but thats a completely diffrerent genre
It was just a rare convergence of incredible talent
same as anything actually good, really
Still the Best 1982
blade runner isn't cyberpunk dumbass
Altered Carbon season one was fricking kino. I 100% recommend it to anyone interest in this genre, it reminded me of balderunner 2049 the entire time
Do not waste your time with season 2 though, they brought in Anthony Mackie as the lead and fricking ruined it all
>it reminded me of balderunner 2049 the entire time
Must be shit then
Rude. The setting, main character and the noir detective shit.
blade runner looks the best and captures the cyberpunk aesthetic the best, the others I can think of are the matrix which was baed of neuromancer, strange days is cyberpunkish, and Mnemonic, nothing today else matches them,
