I suppose it's meant to be more "realistic" than letting those wings just loose to flap.
Personally, I don't mind it, I kinda like it.

They looked at "The Batman" and said "This'll look good." but forgot you can't have the glass eyes directly, or do both check bone armor and not have the mask be form fitting, which Wolverines mask isn't.

They are most likely gonna address the mask in a single joke and never gonna bring it up again.

The internet has already declared it to be "the last good MCU movie" so it ultimately doesn't matter unless it's really bad. Stay tuned for the next "the last good MCU movie"

I hate the movie fans so much, man. It's unreal.

There's other projects that could be thrown in but people do that shit all the time. I want to jettison the MCU into the sun but it's annoying how often you see people talk about how "over it" they are but 180 when something's going to have a character they like.

I'll never, ever, understand mask purists. Masks are one of those things that rarely look good in live action unless it's an armored suit like Iron Man.

I think they made it dorky on purpose because it's for a Deadpool movie and he'll make fun of it.

Masks rule I agree with you though, I don't mind no masks and they're hard to get right. Just wanted to post Kamen Rider.

All depends on the costume design. That's kind of like saying Judge Dredd shouldn't have his helmet in live action.

For some characters the mask is essential to their iconic look, Wolverine is not one of them as he has many looks that are considered iconic, several of which do not include a mask.

That said I fully understand wanting to see something like his mask done at least once when he's been in so many films at this point.

tbh I hate the aesthetic live action shit has in general and I feel the main reason people defend it is solely because it's the status quo rather than any merit. I'm anal about wanting faithful character design though and wish better efforts world be made towards that.

Also I have a bone to pick with the style for petty reasons. Generally the excuse for these cluttered overdesigned MCU suits is they're necessary changes for live action but then people try translating those back into the source material where they make even less sense. Even fanart for other capeshit is not immune like this infamous piece of Invincible fanart. It seems to have transitioned from necessary comprehend to "No, that's how things are supposed to look and it looks good!"

I wonder. Do they do a head cast of the actor to build an accurate form fitting headgear?

this thinking is what lead to recent capeshit with heroes running around without their masks on despite it being iconic to their look, like the spider-man movies, I'm here to see SPIDER-MAN, not a random dude(s) wearing SPIDER-MAN's costume minus the mask

You kind of have to have a cartoonishly huge jaw to pull this off, or diminish how much the mask covers.

      >or diminish how much the mask covers.
not really, they just had to not ADD MORE coverage to what it has in the comics. I'll never understand the uncontrollable urge that costume designers have to turn masks that cover at most half of the character's face into full fricking helmets, it never looks good.

My guess is this mask is intentionally over-designed and weird-looking so that they can joke about it and then leave it off for the rest of the movie

yeah the concept art looks fine, but it remains to be seen how well they'll actually translate into the physical prop. masks/helmets tend to be tricky because it's hard to get the proportions and shit right while actually making it fit onto a real human's face.

It's kinda surreal to see the actual wolverine custume showing up in a major production, I thought we were stuck with logan in a white t-shirt forever.

Honestly it's funny if you read old ads and speculation for the first FoX-Men because you had people speculating on the costumes and thinking they'd get something fairly faithful before the black leather dropped. Alex Ross threw a fit over it at the time
