I don't like going since the pandemic. The shop owner sort of has an ugly personality of "are you going to buy shit?" Anytime I ask for stuff, he said that he only orders for good customers.
sad. ive had nothing but pleasant things happen in a shop. ive never once run into a neckbeard stereotype either in a store or being the owner of a store. i often hear stories about that stuff but its never happened to me at any store ive been to
I don't have any. Well actually I DO have one, but it's translated stuff (publishers buy license from DC/Marvel etc and print it here) plus the owner is a huge jerk so I just order stuff I need from websites. Hope he closes.
Gross why play One Piece? It's going to die out like the Digimon and Dragonball TCGs did. There's only a handful of dedicated players still into them. Almost as dead as Vanguard and Weiss.
I hate to bash nerds as smelly seeing as I am on Cinemaphile discussing comics
BUT
My local shop has Magic tournaments (??) on Sundays and some times I go there to buy my weeks comics and it absolutely REEKS.
Im a boomer and its how old comic cons used to smell before Normies started going to them.
I probably have the best personal hygiene at my LCS. Some of the guys come in and I want to tell them to take better care of themselves, but there's no way to do that without sounding like an butthole.
Usually 15+ people, for the people I know personally, a couple of Branded/Despia players, a Swordsoul player, a Kashtira player, a Crystal Beast player, and a HERO player.
Props to the guy playing Crystal Beasts, I play Branded/Despia myself but have Invoked Shaddoll deck I bring sometimes. I have to drive an hour to a place that has that many people though, theres one around the block from my house but its very small and is hit or miss.
Yeah, the Crystal Beast guy is cool. I'm looking into making Branded/Despia so I think you're based too. I have a place closeby too, but I play at a card shop 30 minutes away. Lots of places in LA at least.
I used to a lot but then I realized that I was becoming trapped by all my collections and have sort of given up collecting in general. Trying to really cut down on the amount of shit I have now.
This. I used to collect a ton, most GNs and Manga and then filled all my wallspace. I don't like statues or busts as they just collect dust but now I'm thinking of digitizing my collection and selling everything. I don't read it much any more and it's just taking up space.
Used to go all the time when I worked in an office and could pop in on my lunch break. Started going less when I moved jobs and it became a stop on my way home instead, and hardly set foot in one now that I work from home.
I have two I go to, ones a local franchise and the other is a local shop that was bought by my old weed dealer. I bought a bunch over the pandemic, I had a pull that I’d drive over to pick up from the back and go from there. A few years back when DC separated from diamond marvel pushed out a bunch of covers that were mostly blank but said “still sold on Wednesday”. For some reason THAT’S the one they set aside for me, so I told them I wouldn’t buy that and they gave me some shit. I didn’t care to go to often after that, he was also really anal about covid and didn’t let people take their masks off inside even as recently as October, which was the last time I went. On the whole I still try to go down, but most of my friends moved out if that area and since I have to go over a decent sized mountain I don’t find it worth it to just go for comics. The franchise store is on my war home from work and across from my bros work so I go there relatively frequently, I only have a few minis on my pull though.
I was going weekly to pick up my floppies when I first started getting into comics. Then I discovered trades and how much more I liked reading them. Then I discovered how badly I was getting fricked by paying cover for the books rather than the typical ~40% discount you can find online.
I really never go into comic shops anymore because every one I've stepped into charges msrp for their titles, which is a complete rip-off. When I lived on the west coast I'd go online or to half price books, and now that I'm in the northeast I go online or to Bull Moose stores
Can I tell a story about my local comic shop?
I've drawn a huge (about A1-A2 size) drawing for my local comic shop, spent a month on that, shown it to the owner. I am not a professional, but my art is decnt-ish, like 5.5/10
-WOW!!! I'll hang it on this very wall! Everyone should see it.
It was just a present because I liked the shop but I was very flattered.
Guess what, butthole never did. Don't act like a "good guy", just accept the damn gift and throw it away when I don't see. I am glad it was a copy, not an original.
Yes I am fricking salty to this very day
Do you have anything that you can show that won't give away your identity? If there's a signature or something, you could crop it out or put another piece of paper over it to hide it.
All the comics there are overpriced and they mostly sell floppies for collectors and merch wich I dont care about. Only worthwhile thing in comics is collections like omnibusses or trades.
Stopped going like 7 years ago. Comics are a massive waste of money and space.
>Buy comic >Gets you maybe 10 minutes of entertainment, max >Goes in bag and sits in box, likely never to be read again >End up with tons of boxes of paper that just takes up space, most of the collection is worthless with no resale value
Whales don't, they don't even read them the first time. Just bag 'em & board 'em and stick 'em in the longbox. To a huge degree, monthy floppies only exist still because of whales.
the industry needs to cut these people off but marlel and DC are too busy raking it in from variant covers and doing nothing. All they care about is job stability and not having to try
I go once or twice a month , but i stopped buying comics for reading , i just go and buy variants that i like to collect , and the stuff that i´m interested i read it online
My LCS has dicky statues in the window next to a sign that says 'Fun for all the good boys and girls'. I haven't been since the pandemic started but I have my fingers crossed he went out of business.
Not anymore, I quit buying floppies when Covid happened. I don't really miss it though, I don't like the regulars at my shop. Buncha awkward smelly tards. And the boss was always trying to get me to buy Donny Cates and Bendis comics.
I went to one just now because of this post OP. I originally wanted to buy immortal hulk since I was reading it during my PSYC class but he didn't have it so I left with the first Invincible volume and Ultraman. I have to actually to get a job before going regularly but it was just ok.
why would i ?

Enough that I've been talking to the owner about getting a job there
I go every week to play Yugioh and MTG, what did you want to know?
maybe I should tag along with my wan piss playing friends
Gross why play One Piece? It's going to die out like the Digimon and Dragonball TCGs did. There's only a handful of dedicated players still into them. Almost as dead as Vanguard and Weiss.
i dunno ask them lol, they've been going to tournaments for the past few weekend
I sold my yugioh deck for a box of the yuyu hakusho card game box, the game was fun but it was a colossal mistake
How often do you shower? Because I’ve heard that Magicgays are quite smelly.

It's pretty fricking bad. Even if everyone is clean just having a bunch of dudes crammed into one space will smell terrible.
Simply tell them to eat clean, or wear some 48h deodorant dude. It's really not that hard if they have some extra cash to do so.
Reminder Gertrude has probably been in a comic book store.
I probably have the best personal hygiene at my LCS. Some of the guys come in and I want to tell them to take better care of themselves, but there's no way to do that without sounding like an butthole.
Is Hygiene a foreign concept to Magic players?
Whats the yugioh meta like at your local and how many people show up?

good. collecting is killing the industry
This. I used to collect a ton, most GNs and Manga and then filled all my wallspace. I don't like statues or busts as they just collect dust but now I'm thinking of digitizing my collection and selling everything. I don't read it much any more and it's just taking up space.
I go there once a week but never buy
Used to go all the time when I worked in an office and could pop in on my lunch break. Started going less when I moved jobs and it became a stop on my way home instead, and hardly set foot in one now that I work from home.
I just buy action figures there
Once a month to pick up my pulls and to buy manga on sale every once in a while

Planning on visiting more now that I'm don't with college
They sell trades at a discounted price so I'm gonna try and get all the Cerebus phonebooks
I would if I had friends to go with or if there was anything worth buying
I have never seen a real comic book store in my life
They never have what I want. I like literary graphic novels.
I would buy comics but most of the comics I like are paperback and I only buy hardcover books. so sorry, I'm pirating 99% of the time.

Yes I am fricking salty to this very day
Can you post a scan of it?
yeah what the other guy said, I wanna see
Ruins my anonymity entirely, so nope, sorry.
nice to meet you pussy

Just toss them out man
not to mention the meandering nature of comics gets old fast. at least manga tells a continuing story. comics are erratic as frick
I never buy floppies but do people not reread their comics? I bought mine so I can read them comofrtably in bed whenever I feel like it again

I stop by a local comic store once a week. Pick up my Blade Runner and Cyberpunk comics, and whatever might look interesting.
I fell off fricking hard since the pandemic, but I used to have one in walking distance and a $50 a week habit.
I just went to one yesterday
what'd you buy
Detective Comics back issues
lame
3 to 4 times a month, why?
I'd go every week except for time and money. Me and the comic shop guy get along great.
I stopped going to my LCS when it became a funko and phone accesories store. now I buy everything online
Dont worry anon, Funkos are dying, the company is going bankrupt, soon we will all be free.
Really?!
This is the best news I've heard in months
>paying real IRL money for marvel and dc's pozzed monkeypox neg hole trash
lol
lmao even
Me
The closest thing we have is Newbury Comics, and I'm guessing that doesn't quite cut it.
who wants to know ?
I go enough to that I groomsmen in the owners wedding, and he was at my wedding and bachelor party.
I go once or twice a month , but i stopped buying comics for reading , i just go and buy variants that i like to collect , and the stuff that i´m interested i read it online
Found out the closest one in my area moved to a larger location. I should go back there; saw a TPB of the most recent Usagi Yojimbo arc there.

Yeah, it’s comfy.
only old men buy comics anymore
I havent gone since my last move back in 2017.
I do try to visit ones around me every now and then for back issues and figures.
I went to one just now because of this post OP. I originally wanted to buy immortal hulk since I was reading it during my PSYC class but he didn't have it so I left with the first Invincible volume and Ultraman. I have to actually to get a job before going regularly but it was just ok.
why do you ask
On a regular basis, no. But I have bought comics recently. Don't forget FCBD.
