If you are that much of an alcoholic drugs dustbin that people do genuinely insist you go to rehab for it then it might be time to consider that maybe, just maybe, you might have taken things a bit too far, and it's not just them being killjoys.

and people who go to rehab, (which costs 1$ billion per visit), tell me, they get better and quit drugs for good? or they relapse? and if they relapse, maybe only once or twice? or like 50 times?

Your post suggests you are low intelligence and are possibly quite young. Rehab doesn't necessarily cost $1 billion. Expensive vacation rehabs can be pricy, but plain ol' rehab is often free. Also AA doesn't "force" you to "accept god exists," but to acknowledge you have no power over your addiction and to recognize a higher power - not necessarily god, it could be nature, human kindness, whatever - because your ego does need to get in check sometimes. But you seem rather stupid so there's that.

Nta but I've reflected on the first step in AA for quite a long time. Initially I found it very demeaning and stupid. But if you try to read it as objectively as possible, it can help. "We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.” If you think about it like this: youiterally cannot help but feel the effects of alcohol. You can say I don't feel drunk, I can compose myself and hide the effects of alcohol, I can control myself when I drink alcohol. But to SOME degree, you will always be affected by alcohol. Whether it be only a little giddy feeling, or if it sends you into a 3 day bender after being out with friends for a drink at the bar. The latter half is kinda nonsense as just because you like to drink doesn't mean your life is unmanageable. But if you try to make sense of it, it can be objectively true: you cannot prevent the physiological effects of drinking alcohol. It will affect you. You have no power over the way your body reacts when's you drink an alcoholic beverage. Your brain functions differently, your lover produces enzymes to detoxify, etc. You literally powerless over the affects of alcohol. AA is for the lowest common denominator, but like most things there is some truth behind it.

When I was at my absolute worst alcoholism (literally drinking AND driving all the time) I went to some AA meetings.

God bless anyone who improved their life from it but my experience was they are all one massive pity-party and I only wanted to drink even more after a meeting.

Thankfully I am mostly clean these days and sparingly enjoy some hard cider occassionally.

Drug rehab does happen but the first one interested in it is the addict. Everything else is secondary. A lot of people do it for attention or to appease concerned friends or family. People who finally quit drugs realize they have to before it's too late to turn around and have a real desire to do better, they can do it in their home even. People who is not real about it can have the best specialists in the world and all things at hand and the only thing on their minds will be the next fix.

Part of it is also that celebs have a specific, incurable mental illness that comes from being a celeb. They become rich and famous and their lives are curated however they like, and they begin to feel invincible. They have difficulty imagining a life other than just shooting heroin and feeling awesome all the time because they've done it for so long.

Didn't Novak actually stay sober since?

holy frick, an actual seething druggie defending a woman dying of an overdose

I think the point is there was no saving her, she didn't want to be saved in the first place. Sometimes, you know you're on the path to self-destruction and regardless of what you do to get off, you fall right back in. Going in and out of rehab is fricking hell. 99% of artists have incredibly addictive personalities (doesn't have to be drugs. Frank Zappa didn't like drugs, but the guy chain-smoked from the 50s to his death in 93, probably smoked in his sleep too. Freddy Mercury and Eazy-E got AIDS because they couldnt keep their dick in their pants without strapping it) and/or other mental health problems. The "tortured artist" trope is real. Rarely you're gonna have a truly happy, realized artist making incredible works. The more miserable a talented person is, the better the output. That's why Amy Winehouse didn't want rehab.

        >The "tortured artist" trope is real
Drugs can't replace talent, ideas, inspiration, hard work. They are a short cut, can remove inhibitions + spark a burst of creative energy at best. It's been argued that drugs aren't the only way to produce great work. But society romanticizes + enables it. Look at older directors/artists still making great works beyond age 27. It's about what kind of art is being made too, and Amy was about young, mad love only.

The alternative is a police blotter that announces a homeless man was found dead sleeping in the doorway.

That’s the future for these people that liberals are choosing by decriminalizing it so they can’t be forced into drug treatment.
We can either keep bouncing them in and out of rehab while trying to fix the mental illness or let them die on the streets

Nicotine is actually super addictive. That and related compounds like caffeine were evolved by plants to function not only as a neurotoxin for bugs, but as a way to manipulate behavior through cognitive enhancement. They literally drug bees and butterflies with it so they pollenate better. They will have more endurance and remember where the flower is for tommorow better.

I pulled this muscle in my back and the pain was so excruciating that I went to the ER with tears in my eyes. I'm not quite sure what they gave me, but it was some type of opiate. And it was leaps and bounds stronger than any pain pills I had before. All pain disappeared. And I felt so relaxed and airy. I couldn't bother to fill my percocet prescription 'cause I thought this pain relief would last forever. I didn't have a worry in the world.

But it wore off 5 hours later, and it was night so all pharmacies were closed. The unbearable pain returned and I had no relief until I could get my percocets at 9 in the morning.

I feel like the ER gave me the equivalent of heroin. It's wonderful, but you ignore all responsibilities while on it. I guess that's why heroin addicts lose control of their lives.

Drugs are really fun. Like, really fun. Literally a majority of the people you encounter have a drug of choice they indulge in and 99% of them do it occasionally, enjoy it and don't ruin their lives.
The 1% of morons who end up street bums, crackprostitutes or OD'ing where headed that way regardless of whether they did drugs or not. Self destruction -is- the goal in some people.
