Because she acted awkward and autistic as frick. Her being pretty+weird would make her a big target for the mean girls. Her looks make her threatening to them, but her autism is an easy lever to exploit to bring her down constantly, to prevent other kids from starting to like her.
I still disagree. When I say Millie is pretty, I don't mean that she's simply atractive. I mean she knows how to properly apply make-up, adequately style her hair, has exquisite fashion sense, and has overall great hygiene. That shit just doesn't get excommunicated on a communal scale. Bullying might happen, but she would have a significant segment of the child population also defending her.
I know damn well if I was there I'd defend her like my own life depended on it. Eleven needs to be protected from all dangers.

Yes. I'm 34 now, went to public school. Loads of psycho kids just waiting for an excuse.
Most vivid is when this kid's house burned down. It was next to the school property, so during recess (yeah just let the little shits out to go watch a burning house through the fence, this is 'murica) they were cheering and making fun of the kid who's house it was. He was sitting in a corner depressed beyond crying. 11 years old and already had dead eyes.

Hey it actually works. I used to get bullied in school, asked my dad for advice, he was drunk at the time and told me to bring a pipe to school and beat the bullies heads in.
I did bring the pipe but didn’t bash any skulls, but from then on I was never bullied again.
