Calvin would get along with Yotsuba about as well as he gets along with Susie.

Susie was kind of a nerdy stick-in-the-mud though.
Yotsuba seems more like she'd enjoy wandering around the outdoors and doing totally spontaneous kid stuff.

Calvin honestly seems like he could benefit from being around a playmate who acts more like an actual kid.

Did we ever get a C&H strip where Calvin makes a friend and Hobbes is jealous about it? That'd be an interesting twist.

          >That'd be an interesting twist.
          I don't think I'd like it.
Hobbes seems like he wants Calvin to get along with Susie. And Hobbes is ultimately the more good-natured side of Calvin's psyche.
Him being jealous and possessive would be a hell of a can of worms to unpack.

Realistically, they wouldn't get along too well.
There's a slight age difference between the two of them and Calvin thinks girls are icky.
Yotsuba is too naive and Calvin's got some malice in him.

Calvin's mom would likely need to intervene at some point, but I could see them getting along just fine after that.
Have this cute picture of them playing Calvinball together.

Yotsuba has enough bite to stand up for herself. We're talking about the girl who got in trouble for punching a sheep at the farm and is implied to have owned a gun.

        >Yotsuba has enough bite to stand up for herself.
My bigger concern is that she's pretty simple in her views.
I'm sure she can stand up for herself, but would they build a common ground? Calvin's ego is a lot to put up with.

Honestly Calvin's a weird character because he's partly a little kid, but partly just grumpy adult Bill Watterson.

Either Yotsuba would help him to loosen up, or she'd get bored with him whenever he starts ranting about the environment or the media.

            >or she'd get bored with him whenever he starts ranting about the environment or the media.
Nah, that's probably the stuff she'd cling to the hardest. She gets really curious about those topics. Ena talking about air conditioners transformed her entire view of the world even if she didn't totally get it.

I wonder how it'd transform Calvin to have a little buddy who actually thinks he's wise. Maybe it'd swell his ego even more, but it's nice to think it'd chill him out from someone validating him, instead of the usual sarcasm he gets from Hobbes, Susie and others.

                >I wonder how it'd transform Calvin to have a little buddy who actually thinks he's wise.
I think it would slowly turn him more into Hobbes, since Calvin would be constantly acting as an intermediate for him and Yostuba.
Basically, it would force him to grow up after having someone actually listen to his inner dialogue.

I think it'd transform Yotsuba more than Calvin. Yotsuba has morals from her dad and neighbors, but they're still malleable. Calvin is the kind of kid who would lie to Yotsuba to get her throwing snowballs at Susie even though she thinks that she shouldn't do that.

                >Calvin is the kind of kid who would lie to Yotsuba to get her throwing snowballs at Susie even though she thinks that she shouldn't do that.
Nah, I think that Calvin would convince her it was okay but it would be remedied just as quickly by someone else explaining to her that it really isn't.

Yotsuba went from thinking that her dad was a hero, to her dad being evil, to hating america, then to thinking everything was alright again in the span of a single chapter. Point is, I think that Yotsuba would be quicker to follow what Calvin says, but Calvin himself would be quicker to feel guilty about misleading her.
And that's also why I think that Calvin's mom would might need to step in and intervene at some point.

I feel like it'd actually be really funny seeing Calvin dissect everything to an infinitesimal detail and go on a huge diatribe about some moral quandary, only for Yotsuba to provide a very simple response that he ends up immediately agreeing with. I think they'd end up getting along from Yotsuba appealing to the actual childish side of Calvin, something that he's honestly pretty receptive towards.

            >Industrial society creates so much pollution, it's everywhere! And yet it's a product of industrialization itself! Our entire lives, our level of comfort, the modern world itself is built around creating products that end up being discarded at the wayside. Every pile of filth we see is a necessary pile by which we live our lives! It's not moral to force people to live like peasants, but is it really any better to pollute the Earth to this degree for our own selfish means?
