I fricking loved this movie as a kid. I don't know why most people hated it. Golly Gopher and the other cartoons in Jimmy's head were unironically kino. I also remembered the green alien girl.

Sorry I seen a few episodes but I don't know what you're talking about alien sister.

Make it more like that Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide episode with the Fairly Odd Parents. It already seems like that's what it wanted to be.

Ned's Declassified was a great example of a "live-action cartoon". What a great show it was.

the last season was kinda bleh with the focus shifting way too hard on romance crap but yeah the show was fricking fantastic

I'd make it an existentialist horror film about a id with brain damage who sees cartoon characters that aren't there and effect no one else but him...Oh wait, that's already the premise.

Make it the other way around. Have a toon in a toonworld have a normal ass human named like Dave or Rob in his head. A straightman to the wacky world around him would be better than like seven funnymen inside some kids head.
If Im forced to keep the original premise, then have the new brain and the cartoons be something that Jimmy or whatever this kids name is struggles with. Add a bit of drama. Not too much, since obviously the premise doesn't provide much room to go without it becoming what it already was, moronic, but enough that like hes actually trying to fix the issue rather than just shrugging shit off. If that actually happened in the show, as I never saw it even as the target audience back then, then just do that but like, actually good.

      >ordinary dude in cartoon world forced to deal with shenanigans
this would be a much better fit. maybe it wouldn't write itself and the gimmick would wear off after a while but I can't imagine it being any worse than the original show.

Wait, there was a series? I thought it was just a movie

it got its own series that I think is considered lost media now. Only a handful of episodes are floating around to my knowledge.

My headcanon is that Black Noir is just an adult version of Jimmy.

    >When Jimmy Robert is tragically killed as the result of a freak accident at Gollyworld, his brain is sloppily discarded in a trash can by a surgeon and is haphazardly replaced by the brain of a deceased cartoonist, Milt Appleday.
    >Appleday wakes up in Jimmy's body, confused as to what has happened to him.
    >He walks out of the hospital, falling into the arms of Jimmy's parents.
    >Cut to shot of Jimmy's brain rotting at the bottom of the trash bag before eventually ending up in a landfill
    >His brain is eaten by a horde of hungry rats
    >Appleday wakes up the next day in Jimmy's bed, he goes downstairs to meet with Jimmy's parents
    >He tries to explain his situation but they think he has memory loss
    >Appleday is sent to school and discovers his own cartoon characters following him
    >No one else can see them but Appleday can, he tries to avoid being seen talking to them in public
    >Halfway through the story, Milt's son Sonny Appleday discovers that his father's brain has been placed into the body of Jimmy, a boy that died in a freak accident
    >Sonny attempts to reconnect with his previously dead father but fails multiple times
    >He eventually goes insane
    >The cartoons start questioning Milt's plans to everyone that he isn't Jimmy and that Jimmy is dead
    >This fails and Milt has to go through school life all over again, living as Jimmy
    >His name is Jimmy now
    >Jimmy until he eventually dies again
