Remember when OpenAI was being billed as public domain/ open source/ creative commons?

      Anonymous

How moronic do you have to be to believe that AI tech was actually going to stay public and open source? Obviously they just wanted morons to do all the work of inputting shit for AI to learn from for free. Everyone who has ever shilled for AI are hopelessly consoomerbrained cattle who can be lead around by the nose by anybody who desires to take a hold of them.

        Anonymous

Of course it will be open source, anyone can develop their own model and make it open source and there are plenty of autists who are passionate about that. It will take time for others to catch up but OpenAI will not remain the gatekeepers of the "secret AI tech" forever, they're just capitalizing right now on the fact that others haven't caught up yet.

          Anonymous

Sure, people will be able to catch up to where OpenAI is Right Now, but unless you think there is some kind of ridiculous hurdle they have run into then it's not logical to believe that people will be able to the exponential growth expected.

I hope you're right, especially about the crypto bull run. Crypto is another thing that won't be around in a few years, I want to cash out off the morons who actually think any functional government would allow crypto to come anywhere close to replacing their own currency while there's still a chance to make some easy money. I think the fact that big corporations are starting to invest is a sign that the crypto fad is coming to a close soon. Big corpos will pump the prices way up and then dump it all over night and then some new legislation will be put in place that makes crypto either illegal or a huge hassle to own/use after the corporations and politicians have cashed out after the next bull run.

It always strikes me how different drawings and paintings were before photography and to a lesser extent before the Industrial Revolution. No need to approach realism. It’s no coincidence the naturalist movement coincided with the popularization of photography

              Anonymous

I don't know what you're talking about, realism(not the movement) was a thing most painters tried to achieve back in the 1700s and earlier. It was after photography that more abstract movements like impressionism, expressionism, and cubism happened. Being able to make a life-like copy of a Hudson river valley scene was no longer interesting when a photo did the job better. So painting moved to not making everything realistic, but experimenting with style and form.

Techshills also deny the very obvious fact that AI shit looks gross and uncanny to people because AI does not process art and drawing the actual way humans process art and drawing and thus always makes shit that feels subconsciously off. NTA but it's the same thing. VR has already peaked. It was a neat little gimmick but nobody I know who has bought a VR headset ended up using it regularly. They used it a handful of times over the course of a month and then it got put on the shelf to collect dust forever. It's a fun little toy for when you have parties and people come over and go "woah let me try!" and then they try it once and say "haha, that was kinda cool, I wish I had one" and then the person who owns the VR headset tells them about how quickly the novelty wears off and then it just becomes an impractical hassle to use and they offer to sell it to their friend for half price and the friend likely says "lol maybe later."

No sane person is going to get a fricking chip installed in their head so they can see Tesla ads with their eyes closed. Aside from people who are so physically/mentally fricked up from some injury/disease that they're basically dead already, nobody but a few gigaconsoomers and mentally ill transhumanists would be interested in implanting the internet directly into their brain. If VR goggles and google glasses couldn't catch on, BRAIN IMPLANTS certainly won't. AI isnt some vaporware hoverboard that some fringe inventory proposed. The product and result is literally infront of your face. VR is simply too early just like the electric car in the 90s. All of these things will intersect once the tech is there. And People have been moving away from their creature. Face filters and photoshopping your instagram photos is no longer ridiculed, infact you are made fun of if you dont involve yourself in this. Body dysmorphia is at epidemic levels and that is the start of it. You just lack foresight and scream gimmick and you think that translates intelligence. Calling AI a gimmick is literally unhinged in the presence of what actually exists currently and the rate it has been progressing. Its all observable.

The electric car is still too early now btw. Although I do actually think electric cars will become as common as ICE cars once the tech catches up.

                >Face filters and photoshopping your instagram photos is no longer ridiculed
Yes it is, just like bogging your face out with surgery is ridiculed, we just don't do it on instagram comment sections anymore because instagram considers absolutely everything to be cyber harassment now so we just ridicule it when we talk to each other in person. Nobody likes being lied to about who they're looking at, that's why face filters will always be disliked, that's why photoshopping will always be disliked, that's why trannies will always be disliked, that's why transhumanism will never be popular. Everything you're saying proves to me that you have 0 interaction with people outside of the internet. In the real world, nobody likes the grotesque and unnatural. You can ban conversation about it on social media comment sections all you want, but it still won't override a normal person's natural instincts. You keep saying I lack foresight when it's you who lacks the ability to see that these exact fads have played out the exact same way every time for decades now. It's not for lack of technology or funding, it's for lack of interest by the public.

looks like you arent arguing that AI is a gimmick anymore because its a stupid hill to die on at this point in history. Sure if you said it a couple years ago youd look a little better. And it sounds like you are isolated. Most women use filters on their social media images. I know male friends who do as well. You keep equating this to what I want rather than what is actually happening. Its observable, my belief is irrelevant.

                Anonymous

Most women use filters on their social media to trick a REAL LIFE man into meeting with them. Everything you mentioned in your previous post has to do with women who want to meet REAL men, women who are wholly uninterested in AI (which is another reason AI won't take off, the largest consumer demographic in the world doesn't even give a shit about it). Girls with body dysmorphia have been around forever, they get silicon breasts and fix a flat shot into their ass and then end up on an episode of Botched. None of that translates to VR or AI. All VR and AI are good for on a consumer level (the thing that actually drives funding for most technologies) is subpar entertainment that hinges entirely on novelty, which dissipates about 10 minutes after trying it for the first time for most people. This is exactly why I said EVs will likely stick around, because there is actual public interest, the only thing stopping EVs from taking over the market tomorrow is the fact that we don't have the technology to make it as reliable and convenient as ICE cars in most places in the world outside of a few major cities, it likely will get there in the next few decades though. VR isn't convenient and brain surgery CERTAINLY isn't convenient, especially not for something that would be used as novelty entertainment by the vast majority of people. AI isn't much better, it may have practical uses in specific niches, but it has very little appeal to the broader public as anything more than a novelty. AI generated movies would just be uncanny versions of the same shitty movies we've all already lost interest in because that's going to be the foundation that all AI will be drawing from when it tries to make a movie, it will do its best to observe and mimick the core principals of movies we already hate.

Anon why are you smart enough to realise AI is a meme but dumb enough to fall for the electric car meme?
                Fundamentals of electric cars:
                1. It takes much longer to refuel than petrol cars, unless
                2. You swap a battery in and out, in which case it takes about the same length of time
Much innovation and bulding of infrastructure to achieve the same practical effect: that's why the tech was never pursued, not oil company conspiracies. It's only viable now because people have been memed into thinking petrol is killing mother earth; once the spell breaks Tesla will go bust, millions of nerds will lose their shirts, and electric cars will have to be towed for scrap
Oh but any minute now "the tech" will "catch up"

Don't forget the environmental strain those batteries cause and how they will burn for 3 weeks straight if they catch fire.

One of the hallmarks of real intelligence is that you cant completely control it. Parents know this from raising children. Now silicon valley woke liberals are going to have to accept this too.

                >cannot control

Speaking of: AI, or at least the LLM’s masquerading as AI, have been around since the 80s and based on theories written in the 60s. The current bubble is only as large as it is because someone got the money to throw NVIDIA’s entire inventory into a million server racks to brute force train a model. What will actually happen is that these trends will reverse within your lifetime. Childless irreligious agoraphobes will not reproduce, and those to whom that lifestyle does not appeal will buck against it every chance they get. Not everybody wishes they didn't exist; those who do will get what they want.

But what you said was that new paradigm shifting technologies come along every ten years, and as your examples you gave some things that were decades-old and a thing that hasn't had any impact yet (and is also decades old).

good one. The internet and computers, especially smartphones statistically changed humanity faster and more significantly than anything else ever. That is a matter of fact that isnt deflected by "no u", Sorry. A human is just a biological computer and eventually it WILL be replicated and perfected its just that simple. Deny all you want, call it a gimmick all you want. Its where its going, its the only way to go. The past 60 years have been more in tech progress than hundreds of thousands of years of human history and it will compound many many times over in progress once a superior intelligence is created.

Sort of, but not really. They're continuations/updates/upgrades rather than something novel.
Truly novel technologies only come around every few centuries; but we are in one of those chaotic boom periods. The novel techs that enabled the boom period were the computer, the screen and radio - or more fundamentally electricity. Everything else is just different takes/upgrades on these core novel technologies. Boomers were still interfacing with a device that received signals when they watched TV and the same goes for silent gen huddled around their radios. Things have just improved rather than radically changed.

Transition periods take a long time. We still aren't fully acclimated to any of these things and we haven't found their limits.

Techshills also deny the very obvious fact that AI shit looks gross and uncanny to people because AI does not process art and drawing the actual way humans process art and drawing and thus always makes shit that feels subconsciously off. When they inevitably try putting shit like this out people will not respond to it, but moronic tech shills are just going to cry and deny this even though we're already seeing it happening.

But the people (companies) who are going to utilize AI don't necessarily care about all that yet.
AI will take over for the simple reason that it can effectively replace a bunch of drooling techtards who were formerly being paid to mooch abound having 5 coffees and 3 brunches a day while outputting 2 hours worth of work a day.

        This.
The line of thinking stems from modern equitable egalitarianism and money worship where all people are equal and money is an omnipotent God that can do anything.
        >if only they had the tools of the big budget studios!
        >then the 80 IQ monkeys could make Barry Lyndon!
        Yeah okay, moron.

This isn't to say the studios are doing anything good these days, either. They've fallen for the money meme too and throw insane amounts of money at slop purely in the hopes of a ROI.
The major benefit of "democratizing" something is when the current elite who hold all the power are incompetent; it gives an emerging new elite the tools to overthrow them.
Actual egalitarian democracy is a bed time story for moronic infants.

          Anonymous

Indeed. I'd add that the downside of democratising, at any time, is that is fills the world with slop, and a generation of artists raised on slop will be more slop-prone. It takes time for them to unlearn all the slop lessons.
In other words the same problem that will occur with AI, being trained on ever greater amounts of slop

They don't even train off your chat data anymore, but if you're really gonna be a schizo about it you can run models locally too

    >film actors in rough draft
    >AI does the post work in one go
    >performance enhancements to the acting are applied based on training data from better actors
    >profit?

AI is literally a scam. look up how much water this shit consumes. it will not be commercially viable for the US. China also has a water problem so they're not touching that shit. also the more AI is used, the more it becomes a part of it's own reference data, which keeps making it worse, and the reason why big AI CEO's keep getting fired, because it's a problem they can't solve.

Can't be any worse than the shit Hollywood has been putting out for years.

I'm opposed to all ai in principle as their first model cashed on millions of artists without paying a single cent

AI is the enemy of SOUL. AI is the sloppest slop you can possibly slop. I dont understand the motivation (beyond money/recognition) behind AI shills. It's like they want society to collapse, humanity and SOUL will become extinct.

AI is just CG all over again. Touted as something exciting that will vastly expand the scope of what can be filmed.

In reality, CG has led to soulless green screen movies, and improved editing room software has led to meddling that creates composite scenes that don't feel even vaguely real because they're 80 different cuts spliced together for that perfect take.

I already avoid every movie with CG, I will be avoiding every movie with AI. You can't get a couple of guys together, build a few sets, and make an actual film? Then I don't want to watch what you're making, because you aren't putting any effort in.

seemed like they'd already used it for 20 years.
oddly enough, it featured briefly in my dream this morning. I was rewriting a post to make it deliberately more irritating - the idea being someone had said he hates them when they are hard to read. so I was typing mine out in word, setting the text to a small font, then clicked something else and it turned it all into ascii art of a scene it had generated of a reclining woman surrounded by some other elements in a scene.
was going to save that and upload as a pic related but woke.
i don't even use AI gen stuff in general so don't know why it has infected my dream, nor why word would choose to appear.
my unconscious is corporately owned, imagine what life was like before advertising.
