why would anyone watch it? Even if the casting was good

      Anonymous

Normalgays will probably watch it as a way to watch one piece without actually having to watch one piece, then claim on twitter that they actually know more about one piece than anyone else.

As a quasi-normalgay I always thought one piece looked dumb and when I tried to watch it the voice actor for Luffy sounded so dumb that I turned it off the first time he spoke. I don't think this is a good one to try to bring in the normies.

      Anonymous

Exactly. It's literally impossible for it to be good. Maybe if it was a movie, but this shit doesn't work as a live action series.

      >yfw they'll try and claim it's just racists down voting it even as they make yet another shitty anime adaptation

This. (They) will hail it as the most popular show ever and a critical hit it'll get one season and you'll never see it again. They've been doing this same shit for the last few years. I for one like when they brag about stuff like this I just smile and go oh they care about virtue signaling than making a good form of entertainment not gonna watch

Because all live action anime Netflix pumps out is kino.

For some reason moviemakers think that turning shit into live action = elevating it. Like, now it's really serious
Video game -> live action adaptation. Anime -> live action adaptation. This is the only medium they understand.
They fail to see how turning video games and anime into live action movies and TV dumbs it down and it's a flawed premise in the first place, even with better casting it would still always be shit. This is not designed for this medium, but they keep doing it and it ALWAYS FAILS

        Anonymous

It's just the easiest transition to make. You can't always take a big popular IP, force gameplay mechanics into it, then shit out a game. On the other hand everything has at least some semblance of a story that can be stretched or adapted and everyone watches movies. I'm not sure about trying to elevate it, I think these big media companies want to expand the audience to squeeze more money out of it. They're probably doing some weird corpo math that's like, "if this comic/game/manga has sold this many copies, we can reasonably rely on this many people to repurchase or watch this movie and everyone else is just bonus". This makes it really fricking easy to budget. New IPs are inherently a bit risky for companies, even if it's all the same bullshit.
It's the same reason theyre always willing to pay the big bucks for the already famous actor, even if theyre not very good, instead of gambling on a cheaper possibly better actor. It's a guaranteed amount of money they can project with.

this, why would anyone with their right minds watch a netflix adaptation of an anime, specially after bebop

      >why would anyone watch it? Even if the casting was good
Because if the casting was good there would be a bunch of thin women with massive breasts?

        Anonymous

Anon, onlyfans girls aren't actors, even if they looked the part they'd be horrible in that show. Now i'm of the opinion that One Piece is literally unadaptable because of how expensive it would be in Live action, weird looking proportions, giants, fishmen etc. also seafaring, filming on water is expensive. All in all, shit should have never be even in consideration for live action, they should have done Hajime no ippo or something far extreme in supernatural aspects

Kek I knew it was a fluke that the main cast looked pretty good. I guess it was probably oda that approved the crew and netflix could basically do whatever the frick they want after that. Not that it matters the show will suck even without the pandering.

Try to imagine what Luffy's abilities would look like in a movie. Now imagine the quality is ten times worse and it looks like it was filmed by a second year film student, there's your adaptation.

It was doomed the moment it was announced that Netflix was adapting it. That being said, I don't think a show like One Piece would translate well at all to live action, regardless of who made it. So much of the humor, crazy setting, character designs, and dynamism of fights can't be translated well into live action.
