        this

I could go on about it but the whole "barbie" part was inconsistent and confused. The whole point of Ken is that he wants to have value by himself, his problem is no one cares about him and only cares about him as an accessory to barbie. Finally he decides he is kenough. Gosling winning by himself would be consistent with a good message, but just like in the movie, the ken's are not kenough, fail to be liberated due to female manipulation, and ultimately go back to being mere accessories for barbies, just like gosling is forced to bow down as an accessory for the rest of the barbie cast and director

However, lets assume that this critique is 100% true, even if everything he said is true, it doesn't matter. This movie will be remembered as part of movies in the 2020's but not for the messages it sent, every idea present in that movie (according to this guy) about how men-bad women-good was already present in society, people had already rejected and accepted those ideas, nobody had their mind made up by Barbie, nobody came to a revelation from the movie about a doll that was popular because it just was.

Even from people praising the shit out of the movie, there wasn't much about Margot/Barbie or creative/interesting directing from Gerwig. If anything it's more confusing why it got nominated for Best Picture (other than to try and drum up interest) or why Ferrera got a nom, as opposed to Robbie and Gerwig not getting one.

This is the most predictable and expected response from this kind of actor in this kind of situation. I don't know why anyone would be surprised at all. It was probably written by GPT-4, it's so stock-standard and inoffensive to meet the cultural zeitgeist. At the end of the day, Goose is just a dude who works hard but has to kiss his employers ass to stay afloat

How the frick am I meant to mold my personality around this? What the frick was he thinking taking this role? Drive, BR2049, only God forgives. All a cohesive personality package I could easily practice emulating - nothing too extravagant.
Jackets, troubled, empathetic stares with a hint of sadness. Curt, economic use of words. I felt like Gosling was cultivating a career for fans like me, so I could follow in his footsteps. Sure, La La Land was a bit of a curveball but I went with it, got singing lessons, learned a bit of tap dancing and augmented my usual act with a cheerier sort of demeanor. But this? What the hell do I do with this? This is too hyperreal, it's a cartoon. How the frick am I supposed to carry off plastic turbochad normalgay? At minimum
    >working out
    >developing social skills
    >getting into "normal" hobbies

And all that's just to get me CLOSE to the headspace of Ken, that's just the window dressing.

Post got deleted by this shit site. Firstly, he gave a meaningless "thoughts and prayers post" to the others, who cares.

The film is shit. Even ignoring the feminist content, it's not well written and tonally inconsistent. It's straight up garbage in various ways and Ken is the only highlight. It's unsophisticated and basically coasts on being shockingly political. So yeah, obviously they were right not to nominate it. It's cringe they gave a token nod to America Enchillada because of her stunning and brave speech, but also don't care.

She looked the part, but she didn't pull off the "doll" thing, or have a consistent character. Basically just played herself with an accent. It's as much the director's fault because the film is super inconsistent and has a shit script. If everyone acted like a doll, or there was any consistency to why they don't at points, it would be a much better film.

Critics hand wave this as okay because reasons? Oppenheimer and the people who dropped the bombs were monsters literally saying the ends (less casualties) justifies the means (murdering 100s of 1000s of innocent civilians).

Nope. The bombs were dropped basically as a way for the USA to wave its dick around and scare the Soviets. There was no way of telling if Japan would surrender anyway within a few months given how desperate they became.

Count yourself lucky the US got them before China, Phillipines, or any Seasian country, because they would've kept dropping them without hesitation until Kyoto sunk into the sea. Sorry your pan-Asian chimpout didn't get handled with velvet gloves after the tables turned and your shit started getting pushed in.

              >any of those having any chance
              >not Russia who just invaded Manchuria

As I said this was literally just the USA trying to scare Russia, that's it. It served no purpose beyond forcing Japan to surrender quicker which we have no idea how much longer they'd have held out. These were not soldiers or military targets they bombed totally innocent people just because they coud.

Yeah they should've just waited for God knows how long for a bunch of fanatics to see the light of reason rather than continuing the total war of annihilation that Japan started.
                >muh oil embargo
                Don't even start lol

We have no idea how long Japan would've held out. Many of the government were terrified by Russia's Manchurian invasion and were pushing for surrender long before the bombs dropped. The estimates are also just, estimates. If the US did invade it could've been over instantly.

It's just wishful thinking to assume that there'd be a long invasion. The real concern for the US and Japan was Russia invading Japan and setting up a North Korean-like satelite state. All the bombs did was embolden the Japanese government to surrender and save face. Again, who really lost here? Oh right, the 100s of 1000s of innocent men, women, children, babies, pets, and months and years living in a hellscape. But at least no US soldiers died.

It take a certain kind of brainless, anime-induced, delusion to not comprehend why nations prioritize the lives of their own over the lives of enemy nations.

What do soldiers do again? Fight wars? Actually you're right, wars should be decided over who can fricking nuke their enemy's population until they're all dead or the enemy side surrenders. Why are wars not fought like this I wonder? It just makes so much logical sense, you're so smart Anon.

Lmao how do you think warfare worked for millenia, prior to nukes? How do you think the Nip invasion of China panned out? Christ the sore loser weebs on this site are braindead

Yeah that was pretty much the MO for the IJA with faux-surrenders, death marches, torture, and execution of POWs. What goes around comes around, and if you're going to wring your hands about Geneva code violations, be consistent. But we both know that's not what it's actually about.

Oh okay, so if the enemy does something illegal then that makes it okay for me to do it? so we should treat ISIS captives like they treat their hostages? This is how it works?

Incidentally, I think that's part of why Godzilla MO wasn't nominated. It massively shows up Oppenheimer and makes it look bad.

A Kaiju movie makes more effort than Nolan's super-serious movie the academy wants to reward, in showing human consequence.

I still need to see this, but it makes sense. Despite being a DEEP film, and I like Oppenheimer, it gives zero shits about the human cost of war or the nukes. It's actually pretty fricking disturbing how little it cares. I think it's an insightful look insight the minds of people like this who do not even care about the suffering they incur to the point a senate trial is given infinitely more screen time than 300,000 dead civilians.

What did Margot Robbie do that was so memorable? It was a role in a comedy film, it didn't require much effort. Make sad face during sad moment. Make happy face during happy moment. Read your lines. Wow, give her the Oscar already

The fact that Ken so utterly stole the show in Barbie's own movie is a failure on part of the film makers. It's just the same old "girl is bogged down by boring shit while dude gets to have fun."
I was genuinely so confused about how much effort they were putting into Ken's story and appeal in a movie that was clearly trying really hard to be feminist.
