I can understand Batman sparing SOME villains like Penguin and Bane because all they do is beat up a few cops and steal shit. I don't understand why the frick Superman spares people like Darkseid who shows up with an entire army and kills thousands every time he arrives. Superman probably kills hundreds/thousands when he's fighting villains like Doomsday and mindlessly throws them through skyscrapers and down into subway stations. He really should be finishing these guys off if he really wanted to keep Metropolis safe. But no, let's give Lex another chance who's gonna build another super suit and will have to be smashed through a few buildings again, killing another few hundred people. I think Superman secretly likes killing civilians, or he just enjoys knocking down buildings.

Superman doesn't "spare" Darkseid since there's no "sparing" Darkseid (plus he's destined to die by Orion's hand), and getting killed by and killing Superman is literally Doomsday's whole point as a "character"
