I can't see this actually making stop-motion more popular in any way and just see it as the product of Del Taco masturbation.

Stop-motion doesn't need to be popular. It just needs to be in the conversation. If it stops people from doing CGI, it's working.

It was a pretentious film that was all visuals and no substance. It didn't deserve the award especially given how flawed it was narratively.

Why is it you homosexuals always default to claiming people who hate this film are fascist? Way to prove you're a slack jawed monkey incapable of any actual reasonable thought. But you know what? I'll still try to explain to you why this movie fricking sucked.

Gepetto has no natural agency to raise Pinocchio or chase after him. Pinocchio is forced on him without any consent or desire from Gepetto which really makes it difficult to believe he actually has any emotion for the puppet especially after it fails to replace Carlo and makes Gepetto an even bigger social leper than he was. Sebastien is a complete non character who could have been removed from the film entirely. The logistics of the afterlife and Pinocchio's soul are nonsensical. The addition of a fascist training camp isn't executed well as we don't actually see it's corrupting nature on the children there, a sequence that could have turned the children into monsters as a unique parallel to pleasure island is completely wasted. Pinocchio reunites with his father in the most contrived way possible and the group escape after somehow not noticing the whale's obvious blowhole after weeks of being trapped. The final message is a complete mess, Gepetto is told he must accept Carlo's death yet is rewarded for not accepting Pinnochio's death. Pinocchio is told to learn to the preciousness of mortality only to retain his immortality after foresaking it and never truly becomes a real boy literally or figuratively. It is a mess from start to finish and no amount of stop motion artistry will change that.

It doesn't help that the Mussolini scene feels extremely tacked on, doesn't really move the plot anywhere, and stoops to fecal humor. That scene could have easily been removed and nothing would have been lost.
