Tropes shouldn’t call it “the scrappy”
They should call it “the cape man”
Hated him as a kid too. Some of the stuff they introduced in Season 2 was neat, like the gadget house. But this wasn't one of them.
I kinda liked how Penny isn't as prominent as she was in the first season. There wasn't anything wrong with her but she was the hero for 65 episodes so some different stories were good.
While the first season is all adventure stories (with jokes), some of the second season episodes are comedies with adventure as a framwork to put jokes on.
He's such a bizarre addition to the main cast that I can't help but be mesmerized by him. He doesn't seem like an attempt to cash in on anything that was currently super popular, it's not like they added little smurf or ewok-type characters like other shows were doing.
His bit is kinda redundant too. He's the sidekick who is a moron who doesn't know what he's doing... but that's Gadget's entire shtick to begin with, so why do we need a second, less interesting derivative of something that already works?
That was always a huge problem with the character
He’s the comic relief
But he’s not funny
And inspector gadget was already the comic relief
Capeman feels like an executive mandate character; at a guess, he was supposed to be a character boys could "relate" to and they could make merchandise of.
Did they ever bother making merch for this show before the 90s revival? As far as I am aware it was around for almost a decade before the first toys showed up.
IIRC, this toy came out while the show was airing. Might have been the only one.
There was an actual toyline in the early '90s that was presumably tied into the Christmas special but not that many in the '80s.
The Tiger toys had the common problem of having about ten figures but seven or so of them were just Gadget variants. On the plus side, it had a Dr. Claw figure whose face was obscured by a sticker but, unfortunately, the design for him was kinda generic.
Frick him. That homosexual was just so unbearable to watch.
I liked Captain Capeman.
t. Capeman
He seems like a jab at nerds, but that was uncharacteristic of the era. Wasnt he also a huge dick ro Brain?
What does the C stand for?
Corporal
agreed he was a terrible character
According to Maurice LaMarche, Jim Carrey was one of the actors who auditioned to voice him.
Capeman fricking dies.
>Nearly 40 years old
>To this day, STILL airing reruns regularly on bigger internet TV channels.
What went so right?
Did he insist upon himself?
For a second I thought this was Atomic Puppet.
They never showed his episodes in my country, they just reran the first season over and over.
Season 2 sucked horribly.
Anyone else been watching the progress on the Inspector Gadget 4K remaster?

>Inspector Gadget 4K remaster
>NFT Shill
>NFT Shill
I'm not happy about that either but the remastered scans from the film do look pretty good IMHO.
>remaster
Wasn't it mastered on video? So it's just a processing of existing footage. Maybe it looks good but don't call it what it isn't.
>Wasn't it mastered on video?
No, it was done on film like most animation back then.
>Maybe it looks good but don't call it what it isn't.
I'm calling it what it is.
So what is the progress? I don't care about this NFT stuff so I'm not learning much from the twitter. I'd buy the series in HD if it's offered.
>So what is the progress?
They have the Haunted Castle episode remastered and I think they'll be doing more as funds allow. They said they were open to a blu-ray in the future but it would depend on WildBrain as they own the Gadget IP.
There's like 85 episodes; they've got a long way to go.
