With what's come out about the showrunner since that season happened, I'm pretty sure it was just him being a huge pervert sneaking in his creepy fetishes. There might be some intent of tossing "fanservice" to those who shipped the trio together but overall the scene reads as the writer's exploitation of abuse in the same vein of Hector's arc.

There isn't anything inherently wrong in being a vampire in Netflixvania verse because the Materialist framework of the writing. This goes in line with the throw away line Alucard made about him being disgusted at looking at the systematic killing of "his people". Being a vampire hunter usually means being a racist murderhobo because persecuting Hollywood sexual predators makes you just as bad if not worse than the bloodsucking pedos lecturing society with progressive messages.

The point is to say that Dracula is right and people fighting the rich bloodsucking pedos are just as bad if not worse.

Leonor represents Ellis' grooming. Carmilla represents the women that cancelled him.

Dracula is moral center of the show. It is basically pro-Antichrist otherwise Dracula would have came back with a cost. Either:
      1) Lisa doesn't think that they can be together anymore.
      2) Dracula comes back as a mortal human.
Neither of these happen because we are expected to think that they are great because they are an anti-racist science couple unlike the poor stupid racist Christians who don't eat people to live forever.

It felt like it was setting up a big psychological downward spiral for Alucard in his isolation. Where he would start follow the paranoid path that his father clearly walked in his journey to violently separate himself from humanity before Lisa came into his life.

But like a lot of things set up in season three it's just kind of glossed over, and Alucard proceeds to go out to help the first strangers who ask for it. So I imagine that they thought they'd have more seasons to work with, just to be told that season four was the last. Maybe they simply knew how cancel happy Netflix had become and decided to end things on a conclusive note while they still had the chance.

Three of the four branching stories were filler arcs. This is so Isaac's storyline wouldn't be rushed like the trio's storyline was in season 2. I made up a shitpost greentext before s4 came out trying to incorporate the plothooks and I also fricking gave up with Vampire lesbians by having them be easily killed off (I made it a point to say Trevor and Sypha never found out their names).

I can't believe they even got a season 3 let alone a season 4, even now I'm surprised they're still going ahead with the Richter season. In any case, 3 was already the "what the frick do we do now" season as Ellis only ever originally wrote a treatment for CV3, they probably wanted to move on but were told "people love Al, Sypha and Trevor give them more, I don't care how you fricking do it" so they pieced together what they could from Carmilla, Hector and Issac

You are giving Ellis too much credit.
        1) Ellis is out of the show for the sequel with Richter.
        2) Season 2 was really poorly executed because the actual plot felt more like a speedrun and the pointless B-plot kept dragging on. It was clear from the start that Ellis wanted to do an OC story with the brand power of the IP.

The only way I'll watch the Richter season is if they retcon half the moronic shit from S3 and S4 oor they completely detach it from the previous show altogether
because as it stands, the show can't work if Dracula and Lisa are both alive and there's apparently no reason for the Belmonts to still be doing stuff. They'd have to make it so all that lovely dovey crap with Lisa was some post-death fever dream and he gets resurrected, turns out it infinite corridor bullshit is just bullshit and now he's pissed and wants revenge
It feels like Ellis wrote S4 the way he did because he was getting cancelled so he did it there was no way they could continue the story

And no, I don't care if they made Shaft the only villain, he is boring without Dracula and Castlevania with no Dracula is fricking moronic

Not really. It is awfully written. If it wasn't tied to the Castlevania IP, nobody would give a shit about it.

Also, when has the effectiveness of the cross ever been based on the beliefs of the vampire? It is usually just that it works, doesn't, or work on true faith. I only ever seen it lampshaded in this show, Close Enough, and one comedy sketch where a israeli vampire shrugs it off then the vampire hunter pulls out 卍.

Eagle eyes function by better parsing through light than any other known species on this planet. Crocodile eyes actually give them a super wide view of things rather than a narrow one. Shark eyes let them see in murky water.

Whatever the frick vampires are unique in doesn't make any goddamn sense regardless.

...Uh, that's where it's from and where you're most likely to encounter people with true faith. Even vampires have true faith. In Bloodlines, the main hunter guy uses his true faith to defend himself from you.

                >good priest helped bless holy water
is just another "irrelevant point" then
the overbearing fedora-tipping is simply tasteless, which is quite a feat, since castlevania simply borrows the whole "holy warrior" aesthetic (cause christianity isn't big in japan) and tends to reiterate that "church prefers hunting heretics rather than monsters"
and if i'm not mistaken the reason trevor was summoned originally, is that church couldn't handle the dracula and so had to resort to dangerous belmonts
the reason the whole thing is *bad* is because it is not even relevant to the plot, it's just self-indulgent wank

I had nothing against the first two seasons even if they ended up tripping over their own dicks believing they'd never get a chance to adapt SOTN. The third one just feels really obvious that they never expected to get another one. I am amused that Ellis just casually slapped the Bleed into the show as the Infinite Corridor, though

Half of Season 2 was nothing but build up for season 3. Season 3 was nothing but a filler arc.

A cross' effectiveness should always be dependent on the users faith and not the targets.

The generally accepted reason so why do atheist homosexuals lampshade like the other reason is common knowledge? Wouldn't an atheist vampire be unbeatable?

If only there was a game that took place right after Castlevania 3 where they could have taken inspiration from after season 2. Maybe this hypothetical game already had characters from their show too.

You could tell how all of Season 1 and half of Season 2 was just what the original idea was when the series was supposed to just be a movie
And then apparently Ellis either requested more seasons or Netflix just kept giving them more seasons and here we are

          >You could tell how all of Season 1 and half of Season 2 was just what the original idea was when the series was supposed to just be a movie
I doubt season 2 was actually planned out at all. There was zero tardwrangling in season 2. It only felt like there is because it had to continue from the events of season 1. That is why the main antagonist was killed off less than halfway into the series.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's better than the best IGA-era games, but it's up there.

For me, it'd go something like

Aria of Sorrow > Symphony of the Night > Circle of the Moon > Order of Ecclesia > Bloodstained > Portrait of Ruin > Dawn of Sorrow > Harmony of Dissonance

I disagree with that ranking except for the last two.

I feel like they should have made an alternate timeline without Lisa to "disprove" the idea that Dracula only became evil because of Lisa's death. They could put other titles like CoM and 64 into it.

    >Bleeding Cool: You’re no stranger to working with previously established mythologies. What was it like working with Castlevania and how did you decide what part of its existing canon you wanted to put your unique spin on?

    >Warren Ellis: I have never played any of the games, never even looked at them. I wrote this entire show using Wikipedia and fanpages so I wasn’t really aware of any of that. When I was originally contacted, some 10 years ago, Kevin Kolde, our Executive Producer, pointed me at a specific part of the game’s sequence that he thought would make a good film (Note: This is the game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse). In absence of a better idea I dug in there and started pulling things out and pulling stuff out from other games and making some stuff up to fill it out.

    >It’s hard to think in terms of a mythos or canon when you’re talking about 8-bit sprites jumping around under one sentence. It’s not like there’s a lot of textual material there to dig at. I did what I could. I mostly went to the things it put me in mind of rather than the thing itself.
    >Once I did enough reading I realized how similar it was to the Hammer Horror movies that I grew up with. Many of which were set in Eastern Europe and many of which featured vampires. At some point I realized I was just doing my own Hammer Horror film.
    >I think you could argue that none of these places have been particularly well-served by Christian forces in the past, and it’s tempting to conceive of a sudden worldwide purge of the Christian disease from all the crevices it invaded. All other religions turning on Christianity at once. I, however, am an atheist, and I think all religions are criminal insanity to start with, though, so… Anyway. Interesting, I thought.

I'm sure he was, even if it was to say "No you can't do X because Y game says so." Hell around the time he was originally writing what became the first seasons LoI and CoD were brand new and probably came up in searches as he was fricking about for ideas.

  27. 2 years ago

so idk if you've played the games but Alucard has always been gay. He was gay for Trevor in CV3 and he was gay for Richter in SoTN. He accidentally fricked Maria and sired a child, not realize that Maria was a woman (she's very mannish, much moreso than SoTN Richter). He was so saddened by his accidentally pussy-fricking that he literally fricked off to Japan and changed his name/identity and started dying his hair black so no one would recognize him. He was THAT upset about getting Renard pussy. His descendant, Eric LeCarde, was also gay for John Morris.

Anyways, it's not OOC for Alucard at all to take it up the ass.

yeah, bottom of the barrel would be the 3D IGA games. Especially that trashfire called Curse of Darkness. Lords of Shadow 2 was shit but LoS1 and the Alucard DLC for LoS2 are where 3D Castlevania peaked.

got in what? The show? It's covering the events chronologically so it would be non-sensical to be upset that CoD got in before any other game inthe classic timeline. I pre-ordered CoD back in the day and even burned the OST onto one of those CDs where you can etch the art onto it, it was that pic of Hector looking straight at the observer. I was reasonably hyped because LoI wasn't *that* bad and serviceable enough when you looked at the action of the early PS2 era. I also like the characters in CoD. But the actual game is a trash hallway simulator.

and to add to this, even though the LoS games are basically reskinned GoW clones the art direction and level design are fantastic, and reskinned GoW is still better than the barebones combat provided by LoI and CoD. The Cornell fight in LoS1 is better than any boss fight in IGA's 3D games. The man doesn't understand anything beyond 2D and I think he may literally lack depth perception due to an eye or neurological condition.

It sucks that even with Ellis gone, the new series will still most likely be about vampire politics and not, you know, Castlevania stuff. The new showrunner's a big fan of the politics, and also drove out the producer that actually seemed like a fan of the games.

Kevin Kolde. He's notable for being an executive producer on the series and naming Lenore as one of his favorite characters, thinking she in particular has "gray morality". Shankar tried to sue him but that most likely never panned out.
