End of Evangelion is the real ending to the original series.
Rebuilds are good. >1.0 is basically the first six episodes in HD. >2.0 takes on a new route and adds a character. >3.0 is completely new but adds a few elements from EoE >3.0 + 1.01 is peak cinema and the definitive end for the franchise. Don't let Cinemaphileutists convince you otherwise.
>End of Evangelion is the real ending to the original series.
Rebuild is the real ending to the entire series, including NGE/EOE. Don't let shipping autists mislead you.
EoE is spectacular. The series needed an actual ending.
The rebuilds are such trash that it actually makes me sick. You know how in the original series the best parts were the shitty robot fights while German folk music plays? Well there's a lot more of that now.
1.0 is somewhat faithful to the original, but with a massive budget for animation. The visuals are impressive, but the storytelling is worse. Still, nice to see a reimagining that's properly animated.
2.0 is garbage. It starts off with a major spoiler. They then introduce a new Mary Sue waifu who effortlessly beats up enemies while singing. Fanservice is somehow even higher. The grittyness is mostly gone and replaced with I shit you not - fourth wall jokes. The gore is shit - characters are just water balloons filled with ketchup, and the violence has no weight behind it. I actually walked out on this movie.
I'm a firm believer that you are supposed to binge watch the whole series and movie in 1 day, that's the only way to experience NGE correctly.
I did this a couple years ago and really enjoyed it, I think it's overrated but still pretty great, by the time when you are in the quarter of the show and the movie you are experiencing the same amount of derangement and will feel exhausted when it's all over.
Plan on watching it all again for the second time in a few months when I have more free time.
>look up eva related stuff on youtube >guy starts off his video by saying you need to read schopenhauer and hegel to follow along >close the video
why are weebs so pretentious? almost every single video of their shit I stumble across is just posturing and quoting philosophers
not even the /film/ channels I'm subscribed to do this
There is a reason "I'm 14 and this is deep" meme exists.
Teenagers like to think of themselves as much smarter than they are so they tag something as "deep" either pretentiously or convince themselves that it is.
And that's all there is to it. The ones who thing eva is deep are either teens or manchildren with the mindset of one
because NGE doesnt fully explain the lore and when it explains some stuff its done incoherently, instead admitting it, some people fell for the 2deep4u meme and read the manga, watchread tons of interviews and analysis videos and play eva video games in order to fully understand the lore, and then mumble something about 2deep4u if people dont like it or have criticism towards the show
i study philosophy formally and going into phd course soon. i'm not an expert but i have a decent grasp. I guarantee you don't need to read any philosophy whatsoever to get NGE
Sure, but you can definitely relate and expand many of the ideas found in Eva with real world philosophy and religion. Schopenhauer is one philosopher that is explicitly referenced.
for sure. but that's true for many shows and films. NGE does have many themes that can be approached through philosophy, but as far as the main theme of the show goes? you don't need no Hegel or Schopenhauer.
Anno is a layman trying to put out philosophical points to express his depression and there's literally nothing wrong with that. Its his show and he can do whatever the frick he wants. Its not pseud (maybe a bit juvenile) and it is extremely sincere. You need balls to do that tbh. For example, Andrei Tarkovsky was no philosopher or theologian, and you can tell. He's still the most important russian filmmaker after Esenstein and one of the best to ever do it though.
no it doesn't, no one ever enjoys something more because they spotted a reference to le hedgehog dilemma, no one watches Shinji on a fetal position in the Eva that's made out of his mother and thinks to themselves "heeeey this is what Otto Rank and later on Lacan meant when they said return to the womb".
that's not enjoyment, that's not analysis, that's just masturbatory posturing.
I strongly believe nobody has ever read Phenomenology of Spirit, but some people pretend to have read it. Since nobody has read it, nobody can verify whether anyone else has read it.
It's because they are adults with adult brains indulging in something that is primarily for children. The culture of literary critique is responsible for this. We went from death of the author to life of the critic. The story is necessarily what the critic says it is and critics love departing from aesthetics to intellectualize about this or that. The more stuff you can waste your time and go down the rabbit hole with, the better.
>>Get it? Neon means new and Genesis means beginning
Correct, I believe "neon" is Latin, or something. And Evangelion would comes from "evangelism," which means preaching of the gospel. That's the definition, tho, and not, I don't believe, the root of the word, which iirc is something like "good news." In summation, given Japanese word placement, the title Neon Genesis Evangelion translates to >"Good news, new beginnings."
>quotes other stuff tastefully >acknowledges that adding christian imagery was a purely cosmetic decison >causes disgusting fans to look like idiots in public
I don’t know if I believe that quote. They accurately use Kabbalistic imagery in reference to the Human Instrumentality Project which looks like an interpretation of Tikun, the union of God and Creation.
>I don’t know if I believe that quote.
A lot of Anno and Eva "quotes" that get shared have long been debunked, bro. If you haven't noticed, a certain portion of them on certain images get posted only by people who so fervently have an anti-Eva boner that it can easily be said to be vindictive.
There’s nothing to actually get, Anno had a breakdown while making it and hated the way people were acting about the show
When it comes to the actual plot there is no sense or logic to its progression, it’s just an artist having a breakdown on the screen.
NGE is a Gesamtkunstwerk that encompasses both the reaction of the public and the persona of the author. The real artistic depth of this unintended masterpiece only becomes clear once you understand that both fully exhibit the psychological dynamics present in the anime and thus the series functions not only as a negotiation, but simultaneously, a critique of that negotiation between author and audience.
The final movie in the rebuild was actually so fricking good.
I am pretty sure there was some time shit going on. I've read a fair few theories about the whole thing being a loop until cuck Boi can actually man the frick up and get into the robot.
The final fight between Shinji and Gendo was pure fricking kino and anyone that says other wise has a small brain and a small dick.
It's not really timeshit as metashit. It literally does not matter if it's "another cycle" or an "alternate universe". Point is about the story, guilt, and breaking away from it all.
He tells you it's metashit right in the title, Thrice Upon a Time. The first time was the series ending, the second time was End of Evangelion, and the third time is Thrice Upon a Time.
It's about the struggle of living in a world with other people in it, people you don't and can't understand. The cartoon ends with the fantasy of the dissolution of the self into a collective consciousness. The first movie ends with Shinji asserting his independence, rejecting the fantasy. The second movie ends with "maybe the real world is the best we can hope for," i.e., "touch grass."
jerking off is disgusting
Anime ruined Japanese cinema.
I do
>tranime
Nge isn't actually tranime you'd actually enjoy it , it was made in the 90s before troony hysteria ffs
ok troony
You're a circumcised tubby mutt, know your place lol, if anime triggers your soda brain so much just go to reddit
>tranime
How to spot a newbie
something about tumbling down
Are any of the movies or whatever came after the initial anime any good? I thought the series was okay but the ending was pure shit
They're okay
The new movies are the ending stretched to 7 hours
End of Evangelion is a masterpiece
End of Evangelion is the real ending to the original series.
Rebuilds are good.

This thick dick gigolo gets it.
>End of Evangelion is the real ending to the original series.
Rebuild is the real ending to the entire series, including NGE/EOE. Don't let shipping autists mislead you.
The ending of the last one tells all of the watchers to go outside which was kind of funny
>inserts his wife as a character
>tells her he loves her and she's more important than all his work and angst
pretty based
3.0 was: GET A HOBBY. PLAY THE FRICKING PIANO OR SOMETHING
end of sneedvangelion is what you want to watch
EoE is spectacular. The series needed an actual ending.
The rebuilds are such trash that it actually makes me sick. You know how in the original series the best parts were the shitty robot fights while German folk music plays? Well there's a lot more of that now.

3 and 4 are okay
It's all an Eric Voegelin reference.
I'm a firm believer that you are supposed to binge watch the whole series and movie in 1 day, that's the only way to experience NGE correctly.

>in the quarter of the show
last quarter*
Cringe. Binge watching a kino series (and really anything in general) is normgroid behavior. Let it simmer, sleep over it. Hell I sometimes microdose.

The creator said most of the imagery he used was because he thought it looked cool, not because there's any deeper meaning.
i study philosophy formally and going into phd course soon. i'm not an expert but i have a decent grasp. I guarantee you don't need to read any philosophy whatsoever to get NGE

Lmfao@ your life
I strongly believe nobody has ever read Phenomenology of Spirit, but some people pretend to have read it. Since nobody has read it, nobody can verify whether anyone else has read it.
I read it, but I was an alcoholic at the time so I don't remember much.
It's because they are adults with adult brains indulging in something that is primarily for children. The culture of literary critique is responsible for this. wtf I love NGE now
>tastefully
>purely cosmic decision
kys
>disguising fans
That's all Eva gays
>tastefully
yes, tastefully. what don't you get? don't tell me you don't know that cinema is 75% based on quoting other shit
>purely cosmic decision
it says cosmetic you fricking animal. you're the one who should kys
>disgusting fans
i don't disagree. fan culture is the biggest degeneracy in modern society since the beatles
I don’t know if I believe that quote. They accurately use Kabbalistic imagery in reference to the Human Instrumentality Project which looks like an interpretation of Tikun, the union of God and Creation.

why would he bother making EoE?
You never Will
I started watching this yesterday and I’m halfway through
Are Rei vs Asuka threads just debated on which is the least insufferable? I hate all of the pilots
>Are Rei vs Asuka threads just debated on which is the least insufferable? I hate all of the pilots
people like Rei because she isn't mean
people like Asuka because she is mean
i kind of hated her but why does she always look so god damn frickable
Angels are alien like robots that came to destroy the earth. Shinji has a weird dream humanity ends . You are a moron op
so hol up... so you be sayin... hol up.. nigas meltin and shiet was just a dream?????????????
whats another anime like NGE
Serial Experiments Lain
Xenogears (PS1) is the only thing similar because they both have heavily gnostic themes
So much Japanese media has Gnosticism, and Eva isn’t even one of them. It’s mainly Kabbalah.
There’s nothing to actually get, Anno had a breakdown while making it and hated the way people were acting about the show
When it comes to the actual plot there is no sense or logic to its progression, it’s just an artist having a breakdown on the screen.
one day you may

it's anime
it's GAY
would anyone here actually just start jerking off next to a sleeping girl like that?
Nah
I would 100% play with her hair though
You're not supposed to, the whole thing was Anno dabbing on pseudo intellectuals
What is this genre called where there base narrative falls apart and becomes a therapy session or whatever?
Imagine getting dominated by Asuka.
Me neither bro.
The final movie in the rebuild was actually so fricking good.

I don't get it, also what's with the applause

A while back I started saving every Red Sea meme I came across and I genuinely despise you for having me add this to the collection.
dont you need to watch an entire anime before you can watch this movie?
stop jerking off and go talk to people, simple as
