I have no influence on politics and neither do you, and besides that nobody is "sending" you anybody and your state's problems are its own. Americans built these places to get away from minorities but forgot mixed use development works in a neighborhood that is all the same culturally/ethnically/economically. So it's basically like living on a farm with none of the benefits and like living in the city with none of the benefits. Seriously, who would complain if in the middle of this neighborhood there were a bakery, or pub, or convenience store? The whole point of these communities is to live among people like you and have conveniences you otherwise couldn't, why are we handicapping ourselves like this?

        >So it's basically like living on a farm with none of the benefits and like living in the city with none of the benefits.

its less isolated than living on a farm , you have neighbors you can talk to or let your kids play with. The lack of local retail is deliberate since those places tend to become gathering places for teens and poor people you dont want hanging around. If you need something you get in your SUV , get on the freeway and drive for an hour to COSTCO or Wegmans.

Oh no! Teens of similar backgrounds having fun outside! We should ban this so they're doomscrolling on TikTok all day
          >Poor people
The purpose of these areas is that there are no poor people. I'm not against suburbs, I'm saying we've built a society that could have more but we haven't taken advantage of it. These neighborhoods are the "unguarded soda vending machine" type culturally but we never put in the vending machines. And I find that sad.

          >who would complain if in the middle of this neighborhood there were a bakery, or pub, or convenience store
there aren't? how big are these suburbs exactly?

Most suburbs that were built before the 2000s are actually nice, small subdivisions that are easy to get in and out of, out of the way enough to not attract too much traffic so it's safe for children to play in the street, at most a 5 minute drive from the nearest supermarket, decent enough sized yards to have an expectation of privacy without requiring a landscaping crew or dedicating your entire weekend to maintaining. Every new suburban development being built today is pure hell, they're huge fricking mazes that take 5-10 minutes just to drive out of and then it's a other 5-10 minutes to the nearest grocery store, the houses are all pre-fab cheaply built garbage that are filled with more plastic than a chinese toy factory, the houses are literally built 10 feet apart from each other so if your neighbors are having an argument in the house you can hear it because the stupid israelite developers wanted to maximize the amount of money they can make off every single square foot of land they bought, there's no sense of community because it's impossible for anyone to meet and get to know even half the people in the neighborhood because there's literally hundreds of houses (that all look the same) crammed into it, and it's not even really safe for children to play in the street because even though there probably aren't dozens of cars driving down the road at once, there's so many people who live in the neighborhood that a car will be passing by every 30 seconds. All the negatives of living in a city with 0 positives.

It kind of depends. I think the biggest problem is some neighborhoods are really ugly and/or too far from places to hang out. Also parks are important, some neighborhood 'parks' I have seen are pathetic and super small. Walking trails can be great but not so much if all you hear is WOOOSH BRRRRRRREEEEE WOOSH WOOOOOSH REEEEEEEEAAAAAR traffic noise in the background while try to appreciate nature. It really comes down to poor and stupid city planning.

I love my people and I love the idea of a suburb. We are doing it wrong and it frustrates me. Why are we building an ethnic enclave (because that's what it is, it's functionally a white neighborhood we intentionally made) for ourselves but not actually making it good?

                Anonymous

                >but not actually making it good?

There is not much you can do to make it good. If you build parks and town centers this will attract people you dont wan in your neighborhood. The point of isolated suburban developments is to deliberately discourage anybody but residents from ever going there. In the US you cant discriminate against people on any basis but money. You can make too expensive for lower class people to live there.

Some people are wearing masks. That doesn't mean other people are denied access to areas in 2023 or 2024 because they're not wearing a mask. Biden predicted a winter of death for the unvaccinated in December of 2021 but that didn't happen in 2022 either.

New ones don't. Hundreds of acres used just for hastily built houses that barely pass code. And the developters, in my area, are charging ~$150,000 minimum for these tinker toy "custom" homes. Some of these neighborhoods have a park with concessions during events. But if you need to do some shopping or even want to just pop over for a soda or something you'll have to drive.
Neighborhood I grew up in was built in the 50s-60s. I had ~6 different gas stations, dozens of restaraunts, a K-Mart, couple big grocery stores, sporting goods store, 3 hardware/automotive stores, 2 video stores, banks galore, tons of parks and pools and so much more all within walking distance.

I really don't know why you'd want to live in one of these.
I live in a small town that's really just a suburb of a major city, and we get the quiet seclusion, but still have a downtown street with plenty of local businesses. Developments like that one are basically pretend rural living. I think

      >So it's basically like living on a farm with none of the benefits and like living in the city with none of the benefits

Americans love walkable cities actually, but only on vacation. See Disneyland, cruises etc. Nobody wants to drive a car from one roller-coaster to another attraction, weird. Why didn't they make everything at those parks miles apart, or have all the casinos on one cruiser and all the shopping on another, always keeping a distance of a couple of mile on sea so that you need to take a boat if you want to see the other part, such hellholes

They say truck stops because people only post that one picture of a truck stop surrounded by hundreds of miles of nothing but woodlands and small towns. They deliberately ignore the surrounding woods which are bigger than their country and all the small towns with local businesses and suburban and farm houses because they just don't care about a place with a population of 3000.

              >They all look like this
No. Texas looks like that because it used to be empty and farmland and now the triangle cities are rapidly expanding and people move there so they can afford a house and not have to rent an apartment in giant city blocks. This is what happens when you have more land than you know what to do with. You just spread out. Your picture there is Leon valley Texas, its just outside of san antonio, population 11000.

You can actually observe this psychological phenomenon in minecraft youtubers. The European ones are accustomed to small spaces so they make their houses pretty compact. The American ones usually make theirs much larger than needed so it feels spacious.

Is it efficient? Absolutely not. But with the sheer amount of space nobody cares enough to do much about it. And then there's the fact that people, believe it or not, don't actually want to live in 600 sq ft rentboxes in towers of rentboxes. People like land, they like their own space, they like a sense of privacy, they like owning it. When Europeans move to the states they're not all living in rentboxes, they all want to buy large spacious houses with a yard and a garage. That's what they want too, they just couldn't get it in Europe.

Black person-san Japan has literally never had Western Europe or US GDP per capita.
They were only ever a "Second World" economy except for the 80's; they were poor but had moderate living standards before the 80's and then throughout their "Lost Decade" of the 90's that was oh-so-fricking terrible they had great living standards and were a cultural powerhouse.

My country, Australia, should be so lucky to have an economic "decline" like Japan's where the Japanese people still live there and have good quality of life. Unlike our Economic Boom which has resulted in more homelessness in a giant fricking country, a culture without acceptance of suicide but the rate is approaching Japan's and finally literally a third of the populace isn't fricking from here and have no care for the place.

          Anonymous

          >use trains
Some people. You really do not grasp the size, density, or distance between people. A high speed rail between new york city and Los Angeles would take somewhere around 20 hours via high speed rail. Which is why we use planes.

In the cities, with the exception of a couple of the most densely populated, metro rail isn't used because people again don't want to live in rentboxes. When you can have 10,000 people come down from their apartment buildings to the train station .5 miles away and move them all to the center of the city for commerce and work that is easy. Having 500 people walk 2 miles out of their suburbs to the nearest train stop to get off at the next station to catch their next train to their place of business to then get off and walk for 2 more miles to work, then catching a train in the opposite direction to get groceries and then back home via two more train transfers is wildly inefficient. And thats not even mentioning things like home improvement/repair/maintenance like people are just goint to carry 2x4s on the train home.

Half your day would be spent traveling because people are spread out. The only solution to this is to force people together, but why would you do that when a mortgage on a farm house is cheaper than monthly rentbox apartment? And the trade off is that you get to... own a house with land... and... own your own source of transport. City living is just not enticing for anybody but young 20s singles.

And inb4 other large countries make trains work. Both Canada and Australia have a nation rail that is... wait for it... a single line across their southern border. They can serve the entire population with a single line of trains. China does it out of necessity purely. Too many people on the east coast. You can't fit that many cars on the roads. The train is still a money sink but the economic gain from actually having people be able to move around is worth the cost.

Ironic that someone against car transport would post this. Yes, this is a major interstate in a major city of 3 million people and nobody lives there. The biggest difference between america and europe can be seen in first rambo movie

European could never remake that movie because it wouldn't happen in European country

The plot of the movie is literally John Rambo getting arrested by the police because he doesn't own a car. He chooses to walk to the city and that is apparently illegal in america. Everyone owns a car there. Even the homeless.

Americans literally have made walking across a street ("jaywalking") and standing around in public not in a car ("loitering") crimes and Americans not only are okay with it, but will spend hours trying to convince you it is okay and that you're the crazy one.

Well being homeless is illegal in the US. So if you have no place to live or sleep you must trespass either on land that belongs to the state or private property this makes you a criminal and gives you and arrest record just for existing.

It already did, unless you think a thin 30 year old having a fatal stroke is normal which you probably do.

You won't help the people that are here legally anyway. If we work with you to deport them then turn to you and ask for help with our homeless, you'll walk away. We know your MO. You promise people things to get them to do what you want but when it comes to paying your end of the bargain you abandon it. So why should we believe you?

You're assuming a whole lot about me and all of it is wrong.

Before we went to disneyland I took my kids on progressively longer walks because they are lazy fricks and I didn't want them complaining about being on their feet all day. It paid off, they barely moaned at all.

As long as there are no blacks, I'm ok with driving 5 extra minutes to get somewhere. Hell, I'll drive an extra 5 minutes on top of that if it means I don't have to deal with annoying neighbors. If you want to live cramped in city, then go live in a cramped city. Or is that too expensive so you just larp while living in the sticks. Stop being a poor gay and either move to the city you want or get a car.

Regardless, it's not my problem you're not happy where you live. That's a problem you have to solve on your own.

Can Americans help me understand what the problem with OP pic is.
I get the appeal of suburban living, and the way I see it the biggest drawback is quality of life for your teenage kid. But is it really a problem? I grew up in a city in Australia so from age 16 was able to move around at 2am on public transport drunk and/or high with no fear. But Americans don't have this luxury cause of Black folk. In rural areas here in Aus we have heaps of teenagers dying due to drunk driving, which sucks. But how bad are these suburban areas like OP pic? Would you really not be able to just walk for 30 mins to meet up with your friends or walk home? How about bike ride?
As long as it is reasonable to meet up with your friends without the need to drive I really don't see what the downside is to living in a suburban area rather than an urban area. Larger homes for cheaper prices, nicer neighbours, less traffic. Seems perfect for raising a family.

You wouldn't as an adult but for a teenager that should be no problem. You have plenty of time and it means you can get drunk or do drugs without the risk of dying.

It is perfect for raising a family and all of the upper middle class and elites were raised in suburbs. The only people that seethe about them are bored teenagers living there that are too naive to appreciate them (they usually grow out of it by mid 20s) and poor people who can't afford to live in suburbs. Oh and israelites that hate white families

This seems right. I'm just wondering if it is actually boring for teenagers or if they just think it is because they have an exaggerated idea about the excitement of city life.
I grew up in Sydney which is a pretty big city but as a teenager you still spend your time hanging out with friends at their house or in parks or at house parties. It's not like you can get into pubs or clubs till your're 18 anyway. I just don't see how life as a teenager in the suburbs would actually be any different on a fundemental level.

Teenagers get bored anywhere. Part of growing up is learning how to control biological urges and that entails being "bored" and learning how to appreciate more intellectual entertainment.
Look at people that grow up in environments where they can do whatever they want and have no parental guidance and see how they turn out

When I was pre-16 in sprawling suburbia, we would take skateboards/scooters/bikes, sometimes (but rarely) walk, all the time to corner stores to buy snacks and drinks and then go hang out at playgrounds or schools
That's about the only places there are to go
      Still, it was comfy
