The appeal is that Apes view humans as barbarians and Humans view Apes as barbarians, and the two sides trade philosophical barbs at one another until an action scene.

The appeal is that it makes whites feel good about accepting blac- I mean monkeys as fellow sentient beings, despite their obvious hideous looks and brutish nature

      It's probably unmoved.

The original movie was a world destroyed by nuclear armageddon, or some other catastrophic war. The reboot everyone got owned by a coof. The statue has not reason to move in this universe

If you see monkeys and immediately see racist undertones, you are just admitting that you are part of the problem. Normal people can see a monkey and not think of racism.

I used to, until woke blacks keep saying we think they're monkeys and now I always think of the association.

        Anonymous

        same.
maybe it was a real association in the past, but we defeated racism so it no longer is.
now the current gen blacks can only fall back to old racism and pretend it's still here, which throws us normalgays into confusion.

Yes. This one is 300 years after the original trilogy. Ape intelligence and civilization has advanced to essentially Dark

You fricks just can't not see racism everywhere, can you? The new series at least is about man's hubris and how precocious our spot at the top of the food chain is.

the original Planet of the Apes movies from the 60s had black humans fighting the ape people
it was basically an anti-war and anti-nuke movie, since the plot twist is that humans had a nuclear war that destroyed all their civilization such that apes evolved to take over
of course these new movies are just endless prequel stacking, by now there's like 20 prequels and 3 originals

You just described the appeal. It's a safe space to have racewar kino.

It's not a direct analog, more like exploring the different issues through shattered funhouse mirrors.

I just don't understand how the apes coexist in their society. I find myself seeing the chimps as white, the orangutans as Asian and the gorillas as black. But you never hear any of them complaining about discrimination. A lot of things don't quite make sense, but it's always interesting.

They appeal to kids because they have talking animals and are bland enough (PG-13) that they are allowed to see them.
They appeal to the Nolan/Villeneuve crowd that want spectacle and action but also want the illusion that they watched some deep "philosophical" movie.

They're just saying that for the benefit of the shareholders. They'll do it on a case by case basis.

Besides, if they can keep the quality as it is now, I'll gladly welcome a few more. And they need an Apes section at Disneyland.
