    >This work whose themes and message everyone else seems to get isn't clear enough
    >It's not me that is dumb
There are like entire pages of dialog where the comic beats you over and over your head with the main message, but you wouldn't get it. It's also a comic about jerking off LESS, not more, but of course you saw that jerk off page and assumed that was one of the main themes.

what message? that the main character is an incel schizo who shouldn't do drugs?

I'll bite the bait and after biting it, I'll chew it and drop it into your mouth.
The main theme is obviously the quest to maturity, is a bildungsroman to both the cape reader and the cape comic. The main message is clearly that brooding denying life isn't the same as being mature, that real manliness and being a healthy adult means accepting life for what it is and making the best you can off of it. Flex isn't a hero because he has conquered the muscle mystery, he's a hero because he never falters in his mission to make the world a better place.
He literally says that here (and elsewhere, multiple times).

I like to imagine Flex like an atlas Fred Rogers. He ain't mad even when everything is sex and violence on TV. He tries to be better, it just happens that doing so makes him seem quaint, especially when he reminisces about the silly comic book tropes we don't get to see the backstory of because we know what they're referencing. The fact that two comic book staples (the skinny not-really-superpowered antivillain and the gruff bullock cop) were at the finale and were technically the ones who tricked the final boss into revealing his plans were supposed to show that you ain't gotta be a muscleman to be good, they were real men by trying their best and not just standing by to let the weight of the world crush them.

The whole thing is like a refutation of being sad for the sake of enjoying being sad. But it's also not shitting on you for being sad it's just saying that ideas like flex mentallo are exaggerated and silly but that doesn't mean they're not going to help. If that's your bag, own it. Shit, an overweight loser cop and a weirdo saved the world. Or maybe it was just a kid accepting that he didn't want to die even though he's sad. Both of those things are heroic. Flex would have loved either outcome.

Uhh... That sorta stuff DID piss off Mr. Rogers... That's why he made his show in the first place. Kids only had mindless slapstick for content, so he made his show as a healthier alternative.

I take your point. I just rewatched that documentary they did on him on Netflix. I didn't really see him as mad just disappointed that the full potential of TV wasn't being used.

So I just looked up this Grant Morrison guy and something is confusing me Cinemaphile. I can't find any examples of his artwork. I know he worked on a lot of comics but I can't find any illustrations by the guy. How can a person work on an illustrated story for children without knowing how to draw? He... don't tell me he only writes words for the comics? That can't be, right? Comics are notorious for being terribly written because kids just want to see pretty pictures, the text is just a story to tie the pictures together, no one could be so pathetic as to think they deserve a career, much less to be famous for putting the words into children's shlock, right?

He drew some comics for Near Myths and drew one of the last pages of The Invisibles.

Bait has to be at least somewhat believable. Try better.

If Grant Morrison is actually a talented writer then I'm sure he has also written a best-selling story that is not a comic, right? A text-focused story that can stand on it's own without corny heroes in bright clothing and crazy visuals?
        >The Invisibles
... oh wait... oh no no no...

Morrison became seriously ill while writing the book, something they attribute to working on the title and the manner in which its magical influence affected them, and has stated that their work on the comic made them into a different person from the one who started it. They have also said that much of the story was told to them by aliens when they were abducted during a trip to Kathmandu.

Nah, I like the Chronicles of Narnia, but I'm not a Christian. Even crazy people can still write good stories. BUT, if I think a writer might be overrated and then I find a gem like that wikipedia page, well I can't help but laugh at the guy. I'll never be able to take him seriously now.

            >then I'm sure he has also written a best-selling story that is not a comic
That makes absolutely no sense. Stopped reading right there.

My superior opinions seem to have caused some consternation.

My take was that being deep and introspective and worrying about the fate of the world (both figuratively and literally) is good, but when things come things really go wrong sometimes the simple solutions are the best ones. In this case, the narrator is tripping balls due to his life and failed relationship, sometimes all someone needs to feel better is some support from a reliable source. Kind of like how after a break up, the best way to heal is to spend some time with your bros. I'd also argue that part of the message is that traditional masculinity became standard for a reason and is a good thing as long as the man himself is kind
