Tfw Oda’s refusal to kill any characters means now Saul’s a fricking butthole who ignored his “friend” Robin, a nine year old girl, as she got passed around and brutalized by countless pirate crews
This is one of the few shows that ever made me cry. The only other one I can think of is Les Mis
shows easily make me cry and one piece is another example of that. many of the flashbacks made me cry. but i still don't think it's good. it feels like it uses cheap tactics to elicit emotions.

You do know that Oda redraws some of that shit until he cries right? You could make that argument for the anime but not the manga itself given how emotional he gets over it
wtf does that have to do with anything? he could draw it 1000 times and the storytelling would feel cheap and melodramatic.

It's a very good "oh frick" moment but it's also just to show how fricking strong people are now
HxH's popularity in online circles is so interesting. It's such a clinically written, sterile experience from an author who completely forgot how to write characters who can sound like they think and act differently. Up its ass with rule making but always sure to tell you that it can also just break the rules whenever. Autists online assume this is clever writing. One of the worst series I have ever had the displeasure of engaging with. Conceptually, I love the Ant arc, though. The idea that humanity's greatest strength was it's capacity for cruelty is kino.
i think the exposition is excessive but i don't mind because hxh doesn't make as many mistakes as most other stories. so even when hxh is at its most boring, i'm not actively turned off by it like i am all other shounen.
>Up its ass with rule making but always sure to tell you that it can also just break the rules whenever.
this is what sobered me up to HxH, i thought it was brilliant during Yorknew and then arc by arc after that I woke up and realized the guy who once wrote my first favorite manga (YYH) was completely absent from this series
>Here is a million rules for the power system >Also there are people who can just do anything, frick you >Here are million rules for how Alluka's power works >Also the last rule is that Killua can just break the rules >Netero's power can only attack in specific ways >It's just like gungi! I cant believe grown ass men watch this shit and the even cry. I mean fricking cry. Why? Because of some dumb ass fricking cartoon that is made for 12 years olds? You cant be serious.
The main problem I had with one piece was that the main character and his crew were stuck because there is, for the most part, a soft reset after every arc. Remember when the long nose guy abandoned the crew and fought the protagonist? Well the characters themselves forgot it as soon as the arc ended and it didn't change anything relating to their dynamics in the long run.
You can introduce new side characters and locations and repeat the same "arrive to location, meet new characters, encounter villains, beat villains, leave location" for only so long until it starts to become repetitive, since there isn't any development for the main character(s) (other than the archeologist becoming a bit more social over time kek).
The timeskip was the last missed opportunity to finally do something different with the protagonist, but he just got a power up.
I don't remember the names of all characters in mediocre shows and movies I watch and its too much effort to look them up, especially since it doesn't affect the argument that you failed to refute, but I accept your concession.
>Well the characters themselves forgot it as soon as the arc ended and it didn't change anything relating to their dynamics in the long run.
yea, accurate. the crew gets development in corny repetitive flashbacks, but their characters are otherwise static for hundreds upon hundreds of chapters.
Its somewhat alleviated by the fact that most of the primary characters in one piece are quite distinct personality and appearance wise, so their stagnation after their "focus arcs" won't become apparent as quickly as in some other shows but the issue still remains.
Usopp left because he didn’t understand Luffy was also extremely emotional and serious about the Merry Go needed to be retired due to damage, and also because he felt insecure about his lack of contribution before he had come back and proved himself as sogeking. They did a story about this, it was all discussed. Usopp didn’t understand Luffy was trying to be strong and make a hard decision to retire Merry
Also ussop was the first to listen to the merry and realize that the ship had developed a conscience due to the love the crew had for it.
Ussop was projecting himself onto the ship, he believed he was going to be thrown away by Luffy just like Merry.
its so funny when the mentally stunted manchildren get pissy when they get called out for praising an objectively terrible work by any artist
"best piece of fiction ever written" holy shit read any fricking book, not even the classics
I think it’s kind of kino mainly because the characters are nietzchiean and disobey the Black person government, but it does fdrag and get repetive. Is there any type of media that covers the same theme but less derivative and childish?
one piece is the modern odyssey, its a story wrapped in myth that is obsessed with the idea of freedom and the pursuit of the legends that do in fact exist, its the ultimate parable being told in real time that is the greatest unfinished tale that we will hear the end of in our near future

No, she didn’t know because of the shared brain, York had to guess based on what the safest most secret place in the island might be. They could have just written her to guess that and be wrong because Stella Vegapunk is smart enough to outsmart his own clones. It would have been better

Bravo oda.
as someone who adored the main team on Yu Yu Hakusho I feel like all of the main's on HxH besides the villains are totally lackluster and with lame gimmicks, Gon is the most bearable but his kid version of goku who doesn't handle emotions well is whatever, and then Kurapika which is troony sasuke with a power gimmick that is absurdly effective but only against those who raped his people, and then assassin grandson who is way more powerful than he should be but the power levels jump so high so quickly that it doesnt even matter, Hisoka hard sells the entire thing
yu yu hakusho's cast is only better in terms of their interactions, and that's only the case in the english dub. in the original series they're not as witty and their interactions are less interesting. i'd say their casts are otherwise comparable with some tradeoffs, e.g. gon's character is brilliantly used thematically and symbolically in CA, even if yusuke is more fun personality wise.

It took me by surprise.
I'm not an Otaku but I dare say of all the anime I've seen that Ida is one of the best narrators in the industry currently.
Between that and the flashbacks he really knows how to pull of an emotional gut punch
as someone who adored the main team on Yu Yu Hakusho I feel like all of the main's on HxH besides the villains are totally lackluster and with lame gimmicks, Gon is the most bearable but his kid version of goku who doesn't handle emotions well is whatever, and then Kurapika which is troony sasuke with a power gimmick that is absurdly effective but only against those who raped his people, and then assassin grandson who is way more powerful than he should be but the power levels jump so high so quickly that it doesnt even matter, Hisoka hard sells the entire thing
yu yu hakusho's cast is only better in terms of their interactions, and that's only the case in the english dub. in the original series they're not as witty and their interactions are less interesting. i'd say their casts are otherwise comparable with some tradeoffs, e.g. gon's character is brilliantly used thematically and symbolically in CA, even if yusuke is more fun personality wise.
theyre visual designs are certainly better and the simplified use of powers works better for them aswell.
Okay but now the kino version
i just finished csm part 1 today but i haven't checked out fire punch yet. csm part 1 is 10/10 but idk what to expect with fire punch.
fire punch is his best story by far. I like it more than csm part 1 and csm part 2 is not worth even speaking on
csm1 was much, much better than fire punch
fire punch was okay, started off strong but you could tell the author didn't plan ahead
look back is his peak
slop
Too bad the ending sucked.
>wano normies and other live action bandwagoners complaining about 5 chapters of reaction piece
Meanwhile people who have been reading/watching for 20 odd years (me) are basedfacing ar every mention of random minor characters who haven't been shown for 15 years
This slop has more thousand episodes. How the frick do people watch this shit? It's not like it's worth it either considering how juvenile it is
it is great. i've been reading/watching for like 16 years at this point, it wasn't nearly as long when I started
You read it and it doesn't take that long, your only hope of watching all of the anime becoming a dubgay and having it on in the background or hoping the remake series will be good
>considering how juvenile it is
Compared to what?
one piece is so fricking moronic and ugly looking. comical
>I got chills here.
Corny
it's fricking ridiculous how even people I would otherwise respect say that this moronic shit is good
