Goodfellas/Casino is basically the story of degenerates getting what they fricking deserve. The only thing Scorcese does to clean it up is by having actors that look much less ugly than the mobsters they represent.

Out of his stuff I've only seen Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and Casino. Taxi Driver is legitimately great. Raging Bull is pretty good but to me it just seems like a solid character study, not some cinematic masterpiece. Goodfellas and Casino are both style over substance movies, they're basically music videos where Scorsese jerk offs over the audience using his favorite tropes like "stylish gangster does brutal things over an ironic pop soundtrack". I agree with him about capeshit, though.
