Visually the movie is hideous, garish and overstylized. Everything from the color palette to the set designs to the costuming to Willem’s whole character to the weird hybrid creatures. And the whole thing is about men fricking a child inside the body of a woman which I consider fairly sinister

The movie is sex-positive throughout, including when she has the brain of a toddler. She doesn’t suffer any negative consequences like pregnancy or disease and she doesn’t regret it. Any character who has a problem with her being a prostitute is portrayed as silly and unreasonable. The characters we’re supposed to like all accept or at least don’t vigorously object to the little girl getting her brains fricked out on the reg.

I'd say the brothel lady and the black lesbian are, but while the black cynic isn't portrayed as a piece of shit or anything, I do think the film did not agree with his viewpoint and would be more aligned with Bella's that he was a coward.

But the sex is never portrayed as her being “taken advantage of.” She always enjoys it and is a willing participant. Even when she matures she doesn’t suggest that any of the men were wrong to frick her or that she had any regrets about it. Throughout the movie she’s portrayed as being liberated and gaining power through sex. She’s not a victim.

Oh yeah like the time she ran away with an insane lawyer and ended up trapped at sea? Or when she gave away all the money to some sailors and ended up homeless in Paris? So she had to become a prostitute and live with a boss who'd randomly bite her?

She was happy to be a prostitute, it wasn't her money she gave away, she felt better having given it away and she had reserves on top of it. The only decisions she makes that harm her and she seems unsatisfied with are sticking with Ruffalo as long as she did and maybe going back with her husband.

The biting is hardly suffering, the brothel owner is ultimately caring and she has a positive relationship with Bella. She doesn't like that she has to have sex with weird ugly dudes but makes the most of it anyway and it is, at its worst, just a slight unpleasantness for her and she finds amusement in the novelty of the different men. If she didn't like being a prostitute she wouldn't proudly declare herself the means of her own production in response to Ruffalo berating her, she sees no shame in being a prostitute, she's not suffering through it just for the money, she's contented there.

Yes. She liked sex and was happy to make money doing so. She did not like not having the choice of who she slept with, but learned to make a positive out of this negative by getting to know her clients and enjoying the novelty of each different customer.

She was happy to be there, there was just one aspect of it she didn't like which she didn't even have to suffer through because she found a way to spin it into a positive. Assuming she disliked the entire experience when she got into it specifically because she was happy to have sex for money after trying it out and she went on to state she was a prostitute with pride is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Even if she hadn't managed to turn the one aspect of it she was discontent with into a positive, she still would not have been suffering through her time as a prostitute.

Again, I'd like to hear what you think she was doing proudly declaring herself a prostitute and being happy to leave Ruffalo behind if she was actually suffering the whole time. Do you think she was yearning for him to whisk her away, even though she could leave whenever she wanted and then did leave when she wanted?

I've been seeing a lot of people saying the sex scenes in this aren't supposed to be glamorized or portrayed positively, but I don't get where they're coming from. She's never remorseful over it, not enjoying herself or suffering any consequences from it, the worst being that she doesn't want to sleep with every freak that walks into the brothel, which she can tolerate anyway. The only sexual moment that felt like it had a negative portrayal to me was Ruffalo coming onto her when she was blowing bubbles, seeing as the being enamored by blowing bubbles was a very infantile act so it felt like it was emphasizing her still being a child then.

I still did like the movie overall even though I didn't especially care for its theming, but the sex, even though I personally think it distracted from more interesting parts of the premise as it went on, felt like it was supposed to be an empowering and enlightening experience for her almost the whole way through.

The film pretends menstruation, STDs, and pregnancy don’t exist. Promiscuity is portrayed as 100% positive and empowering, with the only downside being the inability to choose a partner when whoring yourself our.

I'm in two minds about it. On the one hand I really like how it's made, the sets, the score, how Mark Ruffalo's character ended up in an institution because of a moronic woman. But the whole sex thing with her was incredibly creepy, especially in the beginning when she's even less developed mentally.

That it's creepy doesn't bother me so much in itself, though I do find it odd how it feels both aware that she's still infantile when Ruffalo takes her away and still shows her getting fricked by him as a general awakening to the fullness of life in general, but I just think the sex-focus took away from the film in a broader sense because there's a lot more she could be experiencing about life in general but it just always goes back to sex. When I think of the more memorable parts of the film I think of her exploring Lisbon or the part in Alexandria or when her husband came back and her autonomy was being discussed in a way beyond just having her display it by having sex. I think her being obsessed with sex to start was fine because it's a base impulse and it made sense that with her reduced intelligence she would pursue hedonism, as she did with all the food she was eating too, but then she just kept on doing it while just dabbling in anything else like reading until she's called back to London in the end.

The focus on sex just got tired for me after a while and the glimpses of her interfacing with any other facet of life always felt like they were getting cut short to focus on her sexual autonomy again which I ended up finding more boring than creepy in the end. I also don't know if it was intentional, but it felt almost like a parody of middle-upper class white women with her going from whoring herself out as self-exploration, pouring her heart out for those in need and doing nothing about it than give money to others who won't use it to actually help those in need, spin the whoring as an act of intellectualism and then settle down and marry some guy who'll look past it when you're done having your fun.

Guys having sex young doesn’t frick them up like it does for women, as long as it’s straight sex ofc.

Cringe. Movie is still israeli trash though.

    >Everyone, from the director to the actors to the critics hail the movie as a triumph of the notion of self-discovery through unconstrained sexual activity
    >A not-so subtle point is that the protagonist gets constantly fricked by myriad of strangers from a very young age (as in, while having the mind of a toddler)
    >"THE MOVIE IS NOT ABOUT PEDOPHILIA YOU CHRISTIAN CHUDS"

they are trying to pull off a Jimmy Savile: if I make blatant pedo jokes publicly then people won't think I'm an actual pedo

    >all so they can say "those hollyisraelite pedos are disgusting! (just like me lol)"

I dunno anon, Ruffalo has openly defended pedophilia before. And he's one of the head kid frickers in this movie.

Of course it didn't. They're pacified pussy whipped effeminate homosexuals. Calling them cucks is like a badge of honor to them.

I don’t blame them. The alternative is admitting that they liked a pedo-coded film which would imply they’re also pedophiles. The cognitive dissonance is too strong.

The movie is anti-pedo-coded. It's also a dull movie. This thread (anon's consistent misinterpretation) is more interesting than the movie.

It has someone with the mental ability of a toddler express how much it loves to orgasm and have people touch its genitalia. The toddler becomes engaged with a full grown man who it later marries but only after learning the world through having sex with multiple over people. She says the job is so she can explore the world while doing little work but all we see is her have sex.

I’m glad this movie exists at the same time the Epstein case gets uncovered. It’ll make it easier to cross-reference the names.
