i have a show idea, tell me what you think

>guy gets hit by a car and almost dies
>makes a mostly full recovery
>starts having dreams of people getting killed
>thinks it's just bad noightmares
>one morning turns on tv and sees a crime he saw in his dream
>spills his celery
>calls the cops and tells detective that he saw the guy who did the murder
>detective is skeptical but takes a description of the guy
>the police find him and it was the same guy, so they reluctantly start taking tips from the mc
>eventually mc becomes a consultant or something like monk (the show is kinda like monk btw)
>each episode is a different crime they have to solve
>some of the other characters at the station are a sketch artist person, some sort of comic relief. a lady cop maybe(love interest?) etc.
>eventually have something to do with a serial killer that stretches for multiple seasons
thoughts?

The thing that makes investigation shows (like Monk) fun is the figuring out part- you get clues and the brilliant detective character puts them together. It's a classic formula, but by having the MC experience a dream that puts it all together each time it feels less "earned" and that process of "solving" the crime along with the audience is part of the formula for a crime drama.

There's a show called "Psyche" where the main character pretends to have psychic powers and help the police solve crimes, but it has an extra element of the powers being faked- which is known to the audience- and half the fun is seeing HOW he is going to fake the psychic stuff. Something like that would be more inherently interesting then "he can see killings in his dreams".

      >The thing that makes investigation shows (like Monk) fun is the figuring out part
No, it isn't. It's seeing how Monk figures it out.

You should really watch Psych because it's pure kino.
Also how about instead of dreams he starts hearing a ghostly narrator like in Stranger Than Fiction. That way he'll have to actually piece together clues. That movie was also kino.
        >guy wakes up from his coma, groggy
        >starts hearing narration
        >Dr. Pavel's bedside manner with Main Character was impeccable. No one would suspect that he was actually the killer behind the Cia Bane murder.
        >MC freaks out and makes a stupid face, has to gather real evidence so the police will believe him. Hijinx ensue.

          >how about instead of dreams he starts hearing a ghostly narrator like in Stranger Than Fiction. That way he'll have to actually piece together clues
no, because the way i am picturing it he is really only seeing the people involved and like a few clues from the crime scene, and the team has to use their combined skills to figure who and where the murder will happen to try and stop it. i forgot to mention that btw, the point of the show to try and stop the murder before it happens, not just solve it after the fact

And this is going to carry through let's say, a season? How?
What's preventing him from just staying home and not doing anything for the rest of his life so he doesn't 'accidentally' kill someone?
A conflict is something that comes with the powers or puts him against something, right now the premise doesn't have a conflict, actually, it doesn't really even have a character - as your protagonist is nothing else than this 'trick' he provides to the P.D.

Rick Dalton, by a miracle, survives a fatal car accident and develops the ability to see murders that will happen in the future, now he has to team up with other vigilante investigators to prevent the murders to save lives... and his wife.

NOW we have conflict and even a bit of story going on (Even tho the logline is far from perfect). If we make the protagonist part of the 'big system' it instantly nulls his powers, since he is just going to be a cog in the massive jurisdiction and law enforcement systems we've built. His powers are OUTSIDE OF THE NORM so his place should be outside the norm too, making him an underdog and forcing him to 'punch up' so to speak - hide and compete with our "wrong" system.

              Anonymous

              >What's preventing him from just staying home and not doing anything for the rest of his life so he doesn't 'accidentally' kill someone?
because he see's the dreams dont go away so it's still somehow going to happen.
              >...making him an underdog and forcing him to 'punch up' so to speak - hide and compete with our "wrong" system.
no thanks libtard. and the character will be interesting because he can be written that way, so it's not a trick or cog thing, the show is lighthearted, and you are overthinking it. plus every episode is a conflict of trying to stop a murder

                Anonymous

I think you didn't understand the point of the post.

                >because he see's the dreams dont go away so it's still somehow going to happen.
So what's this to him? What drives him? What's at stake here to him?

                >character will be interesting because he can be written that way,
What way? Your premise doesn't even have a character. If your character is as I said; Literally a tool in a box - you're not writing a central character and definitely not a protagonist.

                Anonymous

                >So what's this to him? What drives him? What's at stake here to him?
he sees that he will kill his friend but doesnt understand why and doesnt want to be a murderer.

                >What way? Your premise doesn't even have a character. If your character is as I said; Literally a tool in a box - you're not writing a central character and definitely not a protagonist.
yeah man you're right, i should have written the entire screenplay for the show and posted that instead of a greentext to give the general gist of the show. my fricking bad

                Anonymous

I can definitely tell you're not a writer and have never received any feedback on any of your ideas.

Look buddy, you're the one who wants to write and 'tell' these dime-dozen lukewarm ideas that have been done to death, I'm here asking you questions to help you shape it up to be more - YOURS so it's not the same beaten-to-death horse on the roadway. You got what you asked from the thread and now you're getting defensive. Not good.

                > i should have written the entire screenplay for the show and posted that instead of a green text
No, but the characters' motivation and drive are enough to push any idea from generic to interesting. What you were just describing things that happen in the story - this is not emotional or interesting. That's why everyone in the thread told you this idea has been 1000 times before - because it has - because it's the only thing you present. Then you get touchy when I try to dig from you the reason what makes it different.

                Anonymous

there are only like 3 kinds of shows, no one is making anything different. it's the characters and the writing of the specific episodes that makes it stand out. why do you think people still watch sitcoms? they have been the same for over 50 years.

Like every pozzed show right now? Old shows like Monk were good because cops weren't forced to be all evil and we just watched an autist work (mostly) within the confines of the law system.

                Anonymous

I guess you didn't understand the point of the argument either. There's a reason why I wrote "wrong" that way - it's not to sell that the law system is corrupt, political, or whatever, it to be "wrong" in the context of our protagonist - so there is something to develop conflict and as I said; the context in the story. Good stories don't have right or wrong.
If you look at Monk too they were "wrong" too about Monk - it's the reason why he was P.I.
