Give us a rundown of what actually happens in MEN

      Anonymous

      >Lady rents an English countryside cottage to have some peace after her husband's suicide.
      >Every man in the town is a creep towards her.
      >House invasion slasher movie stuff.
      >Husband crawls out of the evil white man.
      >Cut to black.

      Anonymous

      >woman intends to divorce husband
      >husband threatens to commit suicide, hits her during argument. She kicks him out of apartment.
      >husband falls/jumps from roof of building and dies
      >woman rents house in English countryside for a calm vacation
      >stalked by a nude guy
      >harassed by citizens of town (all male)
      >home invaded by creepy nude guy that turns into multiple different townspeople at different times during invasion
      >extremely grotesque ending sequence where the naked man mangled by the protagonist re-births himself multiple times before spitting out a copy of the woman's husband
      >woman presumably kills the copy of her husband with an axe (off-screen)

It's a fricking weird movie but it's not bad.

once i caught that all the "men" in the town were played by the same actor, i lost interest.

He hits her once? Frick all the reviews i read said the messsage of the movie was "mysogyny" i figured he btfo her daily and she kinda blocked those memoriea out or didnt reveal them till the end.

          >hit
A more accurate description would be a full-on punch that knocks the woman on her ass into a kitchen cabinet. But it was just the culmination of their argument. The main issue was that she wanted nothing to do with him anymore, and he kept saying that if she went through with the divorce he would kill herself and it would be her fault.

            Anonymous

when she didn't explain to the c**ty vicar that he hit her, closed fist, in the face, hard enough to knock her down, cause damage, and draw blood, because she wanted a divorce, that's when i lost interest. or even better, have it break her nose, then all she has to say is "closed fist, broken nose, couldn't speak" and then we get to see dude fumble a bit in his planned diatribe.

and then we change that whole fight to
            >punches her
            >she can't speak for a moment
            >he "oh shit"s and runs to get help
            >she slams the door behind him
            >he starts banging on the door
            >she screams at him to get out, but its garbled due to the injury, so he hears "get help"
            >he runs to the upper apartment, uses the line she's hurt and needs help and tries to climb down

and suddenly its a slightly better movie.

Is Aster this much of a me feminist? I haven't seen his recent movie. I don't much homosexual politics from Eggers although he looks soi.

there is a wave you daft homosexual. literally every other a24 movie is folk/pagan horror

this is demonstrably true and I say this as someone who likes the movies he's shitting on. Idk why they get such a bad rap around here tbh but I'm probably just a midwit

                Anonymous

I'm not big on A24 horror movies but a large part of Cinemaphile posters who like horror movies seem to only like campy shit, B movie "bad on purpose!" horror, very low budget flicks, found footage horror, or cheesy gore flicks. anything that even forces you to think about what you are watching will make these dudes mald. it isn't just A24 horror movies either, there was a thread about Funny Games a couple of days ago and it was full of people seething about its entire existence. anything that goes beyond the basic taste of horror fans gets endlessly shit on by a large part of this board.

    Women hate men

That's weird because women unironically claim there life is nothing but physical rape and social subjugation.

I think women are a little more nuanced than what the most obnoxious femcels on Twitter spew. At the very least they know when they are being pandered to poorly as is the case with this flick

I like this movie I just think the metaphor was too on the nose without anything else in the film to dilute it. Like sure, I can watch a film that tells me "toxic men bad" but c'mon, maybe flesh out the world a bit more or something, gimme some foreplay before we go in raw

      >toxic men bed
This was the funniest part of the movie though. The little boy calling her a stupid b***h made me smile good

I can't care enough about women to watch a movie about their period for 2 hours.

          Anonymous

Women don't have enough free will to have authentic emotions or mental disorders like neurosis. They can only simulate neurosis, or behave neurotic when it is expected of them. But, this behavior is an act.

No woman has free will. And they never will.

I saw a preview for this before The Northman and it looked like complete shitlib garbage. White woman's black husband dies so she goes to the country where she is harassed by endless parade of white creeps.

Yeah. I think Garland had the idea of a town populated by the same guy and worked the rest of the movie to get a hundred million on a five million budget. I mean c'mon the movie wasn't even really horror until the ending shit which dragged way too long. The shots of nature and the fricking altar were obvious cheap padding. Really disappointed after Ex Machina

      >after Ex Machina
Im starting to think that was more Glover and Isaac carrying the movie now after what ive seen of this garland fellow.

Anybody else feel like this movie just came off as a parody of "woke" 3rd wave feminism stuff and the obsession with shock value in modern horror? Like it's so on-the-nose and aggressively edgy that it feels like the director sarcastically giving the twitter crowd what he thinks they want. It feels obnoxious and insincere. It's either accidental self-parody or deliberate parody to me.

I thought it was a fun mid budget horror.
Good setting, believable characters, effective atmosphere. It's not Shakespeare but I enjoyed it.
