I don't know if people even care about the opinions as much as they just want a voice in the background. same appeal as streamers, or any long form youtube content, or even boomers leaving the tv on in the background while they meander about the house. it's just to simulate company and feel less alone.
I only talk to my friends like once or twice a year now outside of meme chat groups but I have never found the vast majority of reaction videos genuine enough to fill that void. People are weird man.

Huh? I'm in my mid-30s. People get busy with careers and families of their own or just drift apart for one reason or another. I'm not including social interaction with family or people from work or school, cause I'm assuming these people who are the audience of reaction videos also have those experiences regularly.
No one in your workplace is your friend, they are at best friendly and trying to accomplish a task with minimal static. Family that isn't toxic is a given they will be around you. Your friend is someone that was a stranger and that found you interesting enough to spend their leisure time around.
