robert baratheon was king and died. robert baratheon had no trueborn heirs (only bastards, joffrey and his siblings weren't his kids). therefore robert's oldest sibling, stannis the mannis, is the rightful heir to the throne. simple as.

what part of right of conquest don't you understand my friend?? anyway Robert was a descendant of a distant related of the targaryen blood, and with the targaryen out of the sight who else could have a legitimate claim of the throne?? House Velaryon was waaaaay weaker in the rebellion, Aurane Waters was the only remarkable character, only because of Cersei shittaste choosing their allies.

Anyone who wanted the Iron Throne was a fricking idiot. It was a position that held no real power and offered zero benefit to whatever house controlled the Iron Throne. They didn't even have a royal army, literally any force raised was only done so at the convenience of other houses who were under zero obligation to provide troops in any quantity. You couldn't even lower taxes for your lands or avoid raising them while you raised other house's because they would just refuse to pay and challenge you to war. Sitting on the Iron Throne simply meant that instead of having to worry about running your lands, you had to worry about everything happening in a disjointed loosely affiliated kingdom full of various powers that only acknowledged your title because they were too stupid to realise they were in an antiquated and worthless system that has only functioned before under the threat of dragons which no longer exist.

In actuality within 10 years of the last Targaryen dying, most of the houses would've declared independence and splintered off into their own kingdoms. The fact they didn't is just hack fantasy writing, but even if you want to argue that the houses felt obliged or that it was in their best interest to remain as Westeros, it's still inarguably moronic to actually want to be king on the Iron Throne because there is no positives and numerous negatives for doing so.

That's why anyone cheering for Stannis or the other claimants are drooling morons like the characters themselves. It's like rooting for a winner at a shit eating contest. The only characters worth rooting for were the ones who understood the whole system was idiotic and just wanted peace, like Varys.

Yes, he's great when the writers based him off the books and he sucks when the writers ran out of books and didn't know what to do. This isn't a Stannis-specific problem, most characters changed and acted out of character starting in season 5 so I must assume you are moronic.

I'm currently rewatching the series after giving up on House and it's still baffling how bad the writing gets in season 4 and 5. Sansa not telling Jon about The Vale coming to support their cause for the battle against Ramsy is one of the stupidest writing decisions to ever happen to any show and they outdo themselves 10x over when they have Dany show up beyond the wall half a country away. Sheer fricking moronation. How do you frick up this bad? You're handed a golden goose that shits gold and you let the goose die.

The fricking going beyond the wall to capture a wight and bring it back home arc was so fricking mongoloidically moronicly braindead, yet normalgays eat it up and think the show only went to shit in the eight season.
I can't remember most of the shit that happened between seasons 5-7 but that shit sticks out as when they completely stopped even trying anymore and went all in on the medieval capeshit, writing absolute in-your-face nonsense without any regard for logic or common sense while telling the audience to eat it up. And somehow they did.

she didn't forget a damn thing she deliberately withheld sensitive information that not only could have but would have saved thousands of northern lives if she has properly informed Jon so that they could implement The Vale into their battle strategy. The in-show reason for this was never fleshed out beyond Sansa just not feeling like it out of some vague unspecified mistrust in Jon and it's completely shrugged out with a simple apology because Sansa is perfect and is the smartest person in the world and deserves to be queen because she was R A P E D
