I remember them saying there would be no one off characters. They even introduced mystery girl at the end of the episode only for her never to return. At most we saw that Pearl had multiple numbers in her storage thingy. What do you think the original plan for her was before the entire plot point got dropped?

They were obviously going to frick but CN threw a shitfit about it
Sucks because it would have been interesting seeing Pearl date a human, and seeing as she has similar style to Amethyst they probably would have been friends. In other words she could have been a great addition to the cast
Not really, Mystery Girl was godawful. She exists derail Pearls entire character, showing that it's impossible for Pearl to trult move on. The only reason she took a slight interest in her was because she was a carbon copy of Rose.
I felt like it implied Pearl had a type but Mystery Girl would obviously have a different personality
Rebecca Sugar says a lot of things.
Also, who the frick wanted this, that girl was a complete nobody who just happened to look like Rose. Why the hell would I care about Pearl hooking up with a rando with no name or personality?
We never got more of her but this was the first time we see Pearl showing interest in someone besides Rose. It would have been interesting to see how she goes about dating a person. They dropped her completely from the show which sucks ass when they literally introduced her at the end
Pearl already has a husband.
Yes, me
Pearl getting with her would frick up the whole moving on and becoming her own person thing. I mean if the first person she shows interest in is just a human lookalike of the person she spent millennia with then that would be pretty fricked.
They already fricked that up by revealing Pearl was still bound by Pink's chains for thousands of years
That was before this but I get your point.
Right what I mean is yeah, they fricked it anyways so why not go for the option that isn't even more fricked
I liked the idea of Pearl going on a date with her and it being awkward as Hell because she wasn't anything like Rose despite looking like her.
It'd still be a good message in the end, with Pearl putting herself out there but realizing that she can't just hold out for a carbon copy of the one that she lost.
That would've been the ideal outcome in my mind for if they brought her (MG) back: date her and realize "She's not Rose, no one will be like Rose, Rose is gone and I should move on."
I just despised the hinting of Bispearl in the show. It should've been Grearl, goddamn it. Their relationship went through so much and they grew as characters to a point of mutual understanding and respect. Surely, romance would bloom next
The whole point of the mystery was to help Pearl develop as a character. If you think about the rest of the plot up to that point, mystery girl and Pearl dating wouldn't have worked out-- unless she somehow had ties to gemkind or maybe Lars and Sadie, otherwise I just can't see them being able to justify keeping a character like her in the main storyline.
Not to mention, I would hate if Pearl just got together with some random no-name rose-amethyst look-alike in the show.
All that build up for nothing. That’s not new with Steven Universe
if that was the case, i bet the cancellation had something to do with it
supposedly cn canned su the moment they did the ruby/sapphire marriage episode and they had to cram everything into the few remaining seasons they had instead of taking their time like they planned
