Green text from a Squirrel thread. On how Arthur would meet Morgana

        >Arthur was nervous, he didn't know he had a sister before until he became King, and Kay told him about his true lineage, that led to him asking Merlin about it, and then in turn telling him that it is time for him to meet his living relative.
"Ah yes, that Uther, quite a....man. Owes me a lot, dressing him up properly to woo the woman of his dreams. Which would be your mother, Arthur"
        "You know, of my mother?"
"Yes, I was there at the feast when Uther laid his eyes on her. And what came after. But it's not important, what is important is mending the long gap between long lost siblings"
        >Both of them rode to Castle Tinagel, where Merlin told him that while he was busying doing Kay's work, his sister Morgana was busy ruling over the Kingdom of Cornwall.
"Now, Arthur, Morgana will be a great ally, and teacher in order to make..er..people like you more, not all the lords who kneeled before you, like you"
"But I'd want to know more about Morgana, she is my sister afterall, what can you tell me about her?"
        >Merlin's face looks to the sky, sighing.
        "Remember Madame Mim?
        "Why, yes, who could forget"
"Well, dear boy, there are more wizards and witches in this land"
"Are you saying my sister is a wicked witch?!"
"Er...witch? Yes, but wicked? Well not wicked as Mim, but wicked depends on context. Just do be careful"
"Well, I'm sure she's eager to see her brother. Even though, we haven't even met. I should have brought Kay along.
        >The two arrived at castle Tinagel, immediately, the guards looked on Arthur. And raised their arms against him, and halted him.
        "Merlin?"
"The feast was a very bad party Arthur, very badly that people still remember it"
        >The guards still raising their arms against the two suddenly halted.
        >As a girl appears, who looks to Arthur with curiosity
        >Pic related

        Yes.

Still mad that Mists of Avalon didn't end with Arthur being alive and taken to Avalon to be with Morgaine for the rest of their lives.

The lack of good Arthur/Morgan shipping and stories is a tragedy.

Assuming we are going with the Welsh take on Arthur, he has three wives named Guinevere and three favored concubines (he has more concubines than those, but not as favored)

Man, I know fricking nothing about the Arthurian Legends. It seems like this big cultural thing I should know about, but I don't.

Arthurian legends, I'd like to sum it into three forms. First you got your Celtic 5th century version which was basically Arthur & the Celts against the Anglo-Saxons, the French version (Le Morte D'Arthur being a number one source for the popular myths and tellings of the story), and the most media versions.

If you care it's pretty easy. The original Malory text Le Morte d'Arthur is what everyone is pulling from. Once and Future King is TH White re-writing those stories with some snark and fun for early twentieth century audiences, the Disney Sword and the Stone is an adaptation of the first part. Outside of those two texts the musical Camelot, the Monty Python parody Holy Grail and the Boorman movie Excalibur are probably the most essential modern Arthur takes. All of it goes back to Malory though.

The "snark" is kind of why I don't like OaFK. I'd like more Arthurian takes that are kind of "serious"? Sort of like a novel that has the mysticism and "grandness" of Boorman's Excalibur.

My favorite batshit Arthur story is the bit in Le Morte where he meets a baby eating giant in France and and stabs him to death as the two of them roll down a hill, the first stag, before all the rolling, aimed at the bastard's nuts. It's like he's being the civil good king from the Anglo version of the stories and goes full Apeshit Welsh Warlord. But what's really great is he's finding time to do this while going to war with with Rome.

to be fair a giant baby eating monster probably isn't going to really negotiate or realize what he is doing is wrong

One thing I like about Arthurian myth is the sense of decay, of glory fading as quickly as it rose. Maybe it's because we're in a collapse of civilization of our own, but this "cyclical history" aspect I really love.
