The recasting was necessary because of all the time skips in the story, but they should have condensed the whole young Rhaenyra storyline down to 2-3 episodes instead of 5. That would have been a lot less jarring.
The switch for her was the best since her as a bratty child contrasts herself as a jaded adult. It's ironic though that she becomes less endearing with age yet the queen becomes moreso despite getting in the way more often.
