Then I'll reply genuinely, I don't know, maybe it was all the things I heard about it that upped my expecations. Felt kinda lackluster in the psychological department. Expected more from it, more unease, more anxiety. The ending felt just cheap. I do really like the angle of veteran conspiracy from things the government denies, but I felt pretty emotionless while watching.

i think it relies a lot on its aesthetics which were really unique at the time but have been aped for decades now, making it feel played out

Yeah I had that thought, think my OP was gonna be "was it a product of it's time" or something similar. I imagine watching it in 1990 would make me like it more.

I felt the stuff you wanted and expected to feel. It's the age of the movie and your age. You grew up on jump scares and frenetic editing. The pacing that requires patience for me to enjoy 1930s and 40s movies applies to you enjoying 80s and 90s stuff.

Pacing really isn't an issue for me I love most older movies I see but I just really don't consider it a horror movie, and I love psychological over any kind of slasher/jumpscare. The most I felt was the stuff with his son. But the posts definitely have me fully realizing tropes that came from the original probably are involved.

It wouldn't surprise me if you enjoyed the remake with a black cast that got universally panned. Zoomers on this board are so gay

Same. There's a new site where all the based Chads are migrating to ever since the influx of all the midwits here, it's called reddit.com. Have you heard of it?

One of those films on lists I never get. Lynch mogs this. Tim Robbin did better elsewhere. The director's control + central performance just aren't the strongest in movie history to GAF, other than the 80s-90s list wanted sth to call their own.

I felt exactly the same way after watching it. It was very lackluster

I felt the same way, but I assume it's because other movies copied it so it just seems like your run of the mill psychological horror movie.

Its a great movie but you can only really appreciate it having a relationship with god (or having had one in the past). This is a completely foreign concept to zoomers because most of them didn't even have to go to church and just grew up on ipads instead.

No, I'm not. Its a spiritual movie. It's uniquely tied to a form of Americanized Christianity that stopped existing by the late 90s.
