I want to do a video essay about evil AI in fiction.

I want to do a video essay about “evil AI” in fiction. I haven’t seen the entire show, but based on my memories and my current watching on Netflix I believe Xana may be the most powerful and possibly the most evil AI in all of fiction. The fact he can possess non electronics and even people puts him on another level then Skynet and his continued desire to hurt and kill people seems to be even stronger then other human hating AI.

Also what exactly are his limitations.

He can do anything, right? Like, just directly, there's episodes where he lowers the Earth's temperature to cause an ice age, he turns the ground into lava, he turns off gravity, he shuts down the entire internet.
And then once he actually possesses someone, they can do anything too. There's an episode where he makes people run on water, duplicate themselves, phase through walls, shoot electricity; he can do anything.

      >even people
There's an episode where he possesses a barrel of poison; turning it into a sentient gas monster under his control. Motherfricker can possess GAS. He can possess anything.
Xana is my favourite villain because he just did whatever he wanted. In one episode, he's overloading the sun to cause a supernova, in the next, he's hacking into a bus to drive it into the school and hopefully hit the heroes by chance. Guy gives no shits.

he's only limited when you're not returning to the past
every time you return to the past, you double his power

These guys have it. AM is operating on a level other evil AI's just aren't at.

Like I played the DoS game but didn’t get very far. He likes to frick and torment the 5 last human on Earth one of which is a Nazi. I’d say AM might be more sadistic then Xana and that is saying something.

          >one of which is a Nazi
Not just a nazi, a israeli nazi who sold out his own family so he could perform terrible experiments on his own people. AM actually has a bit of a soft spot for him seeing a lot of himself in him.

      >2001:a space odyssey
try reading it yourself? the AI isn't actually evil.
it's literally just following orders he was given.

"Dr. Chandra discovers that HAL's crisis was caused by a programming contradiction: he was constructed for "the accurate processing of information without distortion or concealment", yet his orders, directly from Dr. Heywood Floyd at the National Council on Astronautics, required him to keep the discovery of the Monolith TMA-1 a secret for reasons of national security. This contradiction created a "Hofstadter-Moebius loop", reducing HAL to paranoia. Therefore, HAL made the decision to kill the crew, thereby allowing him to obey both his hardwired instructions to report data truthfully and in full, and his orders to keep the monolith a secret. In essence: if the crew were dead, he would no longer have to keep the information secret. "

In the second episode XANA almost causes nuclear fallout. XANA can also do dumb shit like controlling the weather to kill people in sub zero temperature, mind control, take over vehicles and other machines, there was even an episode where XANA disables gravity or something close to it. Dude's actually insane and the cast is only alive because they go back in time right before they or someone else dies.

Not going to lie, former Xana supporter here. It’s pretty hilarious watching him crash and burn. But seriously we can’t let this guy distribute porn to minors.

As people have mentioned there are others that are stronger in science fiction like AM and you also have the Evil UI in Hyperion. I'm sure someone can think of an even stronger one.

While that is powerful, some of the AI from Megaman Battle Network have done some crazy shit too. Merging reality with cyberspace is just flat out reality warping.

How, exactly, could the Rickenbacker's FTL drive merge reality and cyberspace?

Von Braun had the FTL, Rickenbacker was just piggybacking along. Methinks the idea was to use the FTL to warp space into whatever Shodan's deranged machine mind could imagine.

So much fiction does "evil AI" as "Oh no this was supposed to be a good AI but it went rogue probably because we made it too human".
It's not Cinemaphile but I found Person of Interest to have most logical depiction of evil AI with the Samaritan. It's evil because it's made by evil people to achieve its evil goals and it does that very well.

So let me get this straight. I'm somewhere that's... not exactly what I would call Halo, I'm a freaking rampant AI, I'm seeing freaking bug eyed zombies and, oh yeah, I'm talking to a freaking cyborg security officer.
Yeah, ok, that is something I do now.

Then you have a lot of them. You have them in books, video games, movies ,anime more than you have them in cartoons at least.
