Just saw this last night with my wife. I wanted to like it but it’s so packed full of feminist garbage that all I could think about was how they were using Gosling to make their shitty fem supremacy more palatable. The ending [was awful. They literally just made all the men retarded and accepting any position they could, the women took their places of power back and nothing really changed other than Barbie got a vagina and when to a clinic. I was very underwhelmed by the slow old israelite hag scene as well. It seemed to just fizzle out after Ken gave up and simped for Barbie. The quote, “once I realized the patriarchy wasn’t about horses, I lost interest.” Was the point I lost interest and realized how badly they portray men in this slanderous high budget trash. Interestingly enough, everything that mutt America bitch said was because of fellow females’ pressure rather than men.] They act like they can form friendships IRL, but I have never met a woman that doesn’t attempt to undermine their own friends and try to surround themselves with less attract women to make themselves feel better. Would not recommend.
put your time into watch Master and Commander for the 8th time instead.

it's topical hollywood trash on feminism, but at least it's sincere about it: the whole premise of the film is about fighting the patriarchy, instead of being a shoehorned implied political propaganda, and it tries its best to make an analysis on the subject, as far as hollywood trash can

also, it has a decent entertainment value, and margot and the goose are very charismatic: it's legit good by hollywood standards

      > but at least it's sincere about it
This is probably the best way to phrase it for me too. I don't think it's a great movie, but once you hit the second act it clearly cares deeply about women's issues, men's issues, and how they move through the world together. That makes it more charming than it has any right to be. That and S-tier production design. Like, legitimately the best creative and fun set pieces I've seen in a long time.

How exactly does it care about men’s issues?

I am curious how you see it having any type of care for men. The whole movie is Barbie gang attempting to gain back power so they can take the rights away from the Ken group. The point of Ken’s ascent into power was out of spite and to realize what he wanted. In the end, they don’t even show if Ken does actually get his own home, a place of some equal standard of representation. The nog bitch President gives a couple kens lower mgmt positions and they just slurp it up in this written up stupidity that Hollywood tends to use as a plot device to force characters into positions they want.

It is infantile and masochistic. It’s shrouded in Gosling’s humor that they know couldn’t have been done with unfunny women. It’s the same hollywood deception and you’re defending it lol. Might as well be Allen.

As they insert a narrated version of how life is throughout the whole film. Yeah you can’t pick and choose and still call it a fantasy when it’s literally a commentary on life and how waahmyn are oppressed. Typical feminist dishonesty.

because it is apart of the Cinemaphile fad. hes good in Drive and blade runner but thats it. we love the jokes and shit but if you honestly love an actor, you need to reevaluate your life. actors are not your friends and they are not your father. they should never be put on a pedestal. because they are frauds and phonies, i would even call it psychotic tendency, its why all hollywood actors are insane democrats

It's not god awful or especially obnoxious, but it's all over the place. Random scenes tied together without much structure because they wanted to include them, like Barbie randomly telling that old lady she's beautiful. The correlation between Barbieland and the real world was poorly done, as was everything with the mom and daughter and Mattel. They're trying to tie into ideas of bonding and what beauty is and all that, but they get lazy and just let it all happen in a fairly stereotypical manner, as if we're supposed to already know the deal. Even just having Ferrell as the CEO harkened back to The Lego Movie.

In fact, that's the biggest flaw: we're supposed to recognize what the movie is doing without it actually doing it. When they get to the real world and Barbie is hit on relentlessly by everyone "with an undertone of violence," when Ferrera makes her "literally impossible to be a woman" speech - It's been suggested that these scenes are so ridiculous and over the top outlandish that they compare to the goofy world the Barbies live in. But uh, that's not really the case in today's hyper sensitive #MeToo society. How many people are seeing how goofy it is and how many more people are cheering it on? It may depend on your interpretation, yet at face value that's what we're being shown and told.

The strength of the movie is going to the real world and realizing a world where men have been dominant and contrasting that to the woman-dominant world of Barbieland, which is a clever idea. And it does this decently enough, there's just too much extra unnecessary fluff in the way. The barely-there mother-daughter plot, the Mattel guys who champion women but still want to put them in a box, and even Weird Barbie felt like another self-serving role and a means to an end.

So it's ok, but not great. The Barbie/Ken plot was actually really strong on its own, so it's a shame they had to shoehorn in a bunch of other voices.
