I will go to my grave proclaiming this as one of the ugliest movies ever made. Mann tanked his entire career with his switch to digital before the tech was ready. It worked for Callateral because of the very specific setting and subject matter (a single taxicab). But then he went full moron after that and his career went straight into the toilet. Especially with this dogshit Miami Vice. Movie looks like cheap General Hospital my mom used to watch. It's not "gritty" or "real". Its fricking shit.

what you think is wrong
jamie foxx can act yet this movie is praised here. he almost made collateral unwatchable too
I think he's okay is Collateral, everyone in Miami Vice sucks though and he's the worst.
can't***
CAN'T ACT
JAMIE FOXX CAN'T ACT AND WAS ONLY OK ON IN LIVING COLOR
Wanda was his only funny bit.
I’ll hate him forever for ruining the Beat Shazam gameshow (goyslop, I know, but entertaining early on) by turning it into the ME ME ME I’M JAMIE FOXX SHOW and shoehorning his dumb fricking daughter in as the cohost / DJ for no reason. He seems like an egotistical piece of shit
He was the best part about Baby Driver
Foxx is not the best actor in the world but he's actually really good in The Kingdom.
>Hey Michael, you should do a Miami Vice movie!
>lol, I will if you play Tubbs
>It's a Deal
>Hey Michael, I won an Oscar and I can't film on location outside the USA. It's too dangerous for me and I don't care if you won't have your ending lol
Frick that jungle bunny homosexual.
movie endings ruined by this nig
>collateral
>law abiding citize
This movie was terrible. I had been watching a lot of Manns’ movies and figured this one would be good, but damn it was such a disappointment.
Mann's best film premieres in just 10 days!
the shit part is that his miami vice tv show is a million times better. my main gripe was his choice of leads, but the villain is goofy and the story feels like it never goes anywhere for a long time. and that stupid mustache on colin lol
it's flawed, sure, but still one of my favorites
it touches greatly on the thin line between law enforcement and the criminal, Farrell is phenomenal as always, and all the scenes happening abroad/interactions with the international criminal organization keep you in suspense and are very tense
the various shootouts (and the kidnapping) are just realistic enough to not be boring nor over the top, and Nonpoint's cover of In The Air Tonight makes the final fight extremely memorable
the speedboat scenes are absolute kino, and I also have to commend the movie for how many of its themes it leaves between the lines
Save it for your letterboxd account, homosexual
don't have one, but maybe I should make one thanks for the recommendation!
I agree with everything you aid. love this movie. especially knowing the shitfrickery behind the scenes.
What did you watch it on? Phone or laptop? LED TV? It was kino in the cinema and only some of it was filmed in digital, and some of those scenes (e.g. night in the markets of Ciudad del Este) had a more realistic, on the ground feel having been shot on digital. It also has a thematic relevance as a lot do the film is about how new smaller and more accessible digital technologies were being employed by these billion dollar cartels for sureveillance etc.
And in case you didn't catch on having a Hollywood-adled brain, the subject matter of the film is ugly as well. You're probably some homosexual poseur suburban moron with zero life experience beyond public school and wageslavery so probably need all your crime kino filmed like the Barbie movie so you can get a vicarious thrill rather than perspective. Incidentally, being in a cab and shooting in digital doesn't really have a thematic so much as a logistical purpose. What does digital 'say' about being in a taxi? Are we even supposed to notice it? A lot of scenes in Miami Vice do have a thematic parallel to digital as mentioned above (another example is the meeting with Yero in Haiti where the perspective of the camera is literally taking the perspective of the sentinels on rooftops and their lowtech surveillance of the environment.) Are you suggesting the digital camera is, what, a thematic parallel to dashboard cameras (Foxx's character doesn't have one in collateral, both Vince and Foxx aren't using much hi-tech stuff at all, and in fact Vincent is under almost no surveillance for most of the whole movie)?
gayest shit ever
most losers pretending this was good and wasn't a failed project by mann (that had half the script ripped out cause jamie foxx was a diva and refuse to film half his scenes) are zoomers who weren't alive or were barely cognizant to realize how gay this entire thing was
didn't read
I saw it in the theater when it came out.
This shit sucked dick and Mann apologists are some of the lowest IQ people in the kinosphere.
>kinosphere
go back to wherever you came from, tourist. you don't know anything.
Jamie Foxx ruined this film and i will never forgive him.
SOVL
>using the long de-bunked Miami Vice still screenshot technique
It is a motion picture. Not a screensaver. It looks like absolute one hundred percent dogshit in motion.
And just like that homosexual OP revealed himself as a fricking moron and his thread as a waste time and space. The action scenes and aquatic scenes were filmed in 35mm, against your whole digital sperg. If digital is bad it's certainly not because of the high speed 'motion picture' scenes in this very fine image even as they appear in the film, which you're nonetheless trying to assert here through the murky swamp of your perceptions and subsequent 'opinions'. Go get your giveaway filmstrip from Oppenheimer and leave us nonposeur morons alone.
Every shootout looks and sounds like an out take. Like one of those DVD extras scenes that end up on the cutting room floor. The entire thing is awful. Every 'dramatic" emote by one of the actors, Especially Farrel, has that uncanny valley cringiness that comes with that kind of low grade digital video. The movie is shit. It could have been a slam dunk. It could have been kino. The entire concept is right there. But the execution is beyond laughably bad. And the market said as much since the movie BOMBED at the height of Mann's career.
yeah you're right. the market always knows what's best. the masses always know what's good huh?
In this case the market was dead on. Like fricking bullseye.

black people look uncomfortable on speed boats
For some reason, the only rips of this movie I can find are the director's cut with the boat race in the beginning, which was such a stupid addition given that the Linkin Park opening is so iconic.
big part that always bothered me was when they've raided the stashhouse, loaded the truck with the coke, then Crockett takes off his balaclava to reveal his face to go out and blow the boats.
why not assume they had cameras in the stashhouse to stop stealing, or to identify c**ts who might try steal their coke? their undercover op would be dead in the water once they got to haiti, they'd be fricked.
You clearly don't understand style which Mann is a genius at blending style and realism together
Its interesting that Mann used that small bit of Ciduad del Este and expanded upon it in Heat 2. The book was good, hoping he actually shoots it.
How did the rest of their team get into the initial Yero meet?
Miami Vice and Public Enemies killed Mann's career
Wasn't Public Enemies a big hit?
Still another hideous movie with an awful script though.
Directing Ferrari starring Sarah Gadon will save his career.
No that was Blackhat.

It was rather disappointing, yes.
