Explain this movie to me then. I'm convinced only people on the ends of the bell curve can enjoy this movie
Brainlets like it for the pretty visuals
Galaxy brains get the subtext if there is any
Normal people are left with a confusing convoluted mess

Miyazaki blames his dead-mom trauma on the Meiji era militar industrial complex
it's the same movie than Oppenheimer, but with the eros-thanatos theme more in subtext

he famously said he had four movies in him, and his first four are by far his best
    >Cagliostro
    >Nauscicaa
    >Laputa
    >Totoro
the rest are a descent into self indulgence and don't do anything he didn't do in those 4

Cagliostro was a lupin spinoff that retread the set pieces from the original series, it was a cash check job and nothing more

I find impressive that this guy has never feel the urge to make a movie for adults. I understand making kid movies here and there, specially if you have kids, but why would someone spend his life on that?

I'm not American, and Americans don't make movies for adults either, but that's because they are mentally stunted man children, so I can understand it, but Miyazaki doesn't come off as one.

Princess mononoke showed a proper conflict where there was no good or bad side, just 2 different ways of life seeking to survive by any means necessary.

My favorite part about Ghibli films is that is romanticizes life. Watch Sophie in Howl's moving castle clean a house and cook breakfast. it glorifies the simple life and has an appreciation for what truly matters in the world for everyday people. They cover grand scale themes of war and tragedy, but the focus on little things is what draws people.
What nobody truly notices, is how American films portray anyone eating as disgusting, if you're eating it usually signifies you're the bad guy. That's every single movie, I can't think of one where a main character eats something and it isn't meant to depict them as aloof, goofy or incompetent.
In studio ghibil watching character make dinner and eat together is beautiful. That shoes the maturity of the content.

In every FUCKING western story they have a little girl swinging a sword and saying "fuck chores I want to slay a dragon". Something innately immature and irresponsible. I think these types of movies are damaging. It makes people think that if they aren't doing something epic with their life they must be unhappy.

This is total bullshit. Weeb mental gymnastics to make Ghibli shit seem more profound than it is. That webm that Cinemaphile memes on nonstop of Jon Favreau making the fucking grilled cheese is one of many examples of American media depicting food prep and eating in a positive light. And Ghibli films are also full of villains eating like pigs, literally speaking in the context of Spirited Away where the girl's retard parents eat so much food that they turn into literal pigs. Fuck yourself weeb pseud

showing a scene of someone Making food is different from showing them eating food. You can't find a movie that shows someone eating in a good way.
and you only highlighted my point retard, they show what greedy eating looks like, vs how normal people eat.

I kind of relate to this frustration. I remember noticing it when I was enthusiastic about reading fiction. Next time I read the phrase "fat dripping from their chins", that book goes in the fucking trash.

Miyazaki explicitly states that kids should also be exposed to violence in movies so that they understand that it exists in the world. Also, the violence is not glorified.

Yeah, maybe it makes sense to Japanese audiences, but I really didn't understand what that otherworld was about or what it's purpose was. Like, why are there cannibal parrots?

      > I can follow and enjoy from start to finish without having to think hard about them,

Have you thought for a second that maybe there is not that much meaning behind all of it? It’s animation, why would you not make it as gorgeous and interesting looking as possible?

I don't buy that. I've watched plenty of congruent animu flicks. Miyazaki's ain't it

But that’s the point. You can watch other animated movies if you want sth easier to digest and someone that is into the kind of atmosphere that ghibili creates can watch their movies. Not every movie has to be for everyone. Also Kiki’s delivery service is very simple, relaxing and easy to appreciate.

the biggest red pill of all is that Miyazaki movies insist upon themselves and should be enjoyed not for the quality of their narrative but for the quality of the animation and art direction.
