the only zombie apocalypse i could ever take seriously would be crossed (surprisingly) or 28 days later. they do whatever they can to infect you and will RUN
The only way it makes sense is if during the initial stages the zombie infection has full control over the host, meaning you get sprinters. As time goes on they start breaking down and become shamblers, which is also when the survivors who hid carefully come out.
This would also mean that cases of re-infection later would be incredibly dangerous.

Crossed has got to be one of the greatest comic book series that I almost never hear anyone talk about. There was supposed to be a show made out of it but nothing ever came to fruition. Probably for the better, can you imagine what a woke crossed show would look like ?

Just by sheer overwhelming numbers combined with the fact that everyone turns even if not bit. Just a slow breakdown of organization, which leads into a circumstance in which the walkers never stop moving, like the terminator. You can run but eventually they catch up and in overwhelming numbers. It's just grinds everything down
In like the month it was said it happened? A small police force of like 20 people in riot gear with knives could kill thousands while being almost invulnerable like Glenn was. The only way slow zombies could take over the world was if it was because of some high elite government conspiracy where they let the zombies take over to shrink the population while they hid and have the lower class people fend for themselves
but it wouldn't be like that. No one would be going to work. Lockdowns wouldn't be a meme with 'essential workers' allowed to go to and fro. Powerplants would be shut down except for the most vital and those would probably force skeleton crews to remain at the plants to limit movement. Most places would be without power. No internet, no cell towers, no computers, most hospitals without power, etc. Supply chains wouldn't jsut breakdown they would end. No food, meds, supplies, nothing. People would be forced to try and go out but the military would be seriously enforcing lockdowns...until the soldiers decided to quit. on and on it goes. Society can breakdown pretty damn fast. People would be looting and killing to feed themselves, fighting with eachother over stuff and fighting the police/military for freedom of movement. All while every person that dies gets turned, regardless of bites. The number of zombies would begin to exceed the number of living pretty quick.
In a month? no, but it's just a show...in 6 months? yeah, maybe

Sheer overwhelming numbers might be a thing in big populated cities, but I can't see slow zombies taking over small towns. Especially the southern states were everybody has multiple guns. I live in Alabama, and I don't think I've met someone over 18 that doesn't own a gun. Even if you never buy one it's like one will be gifted to you by someone.

How fast could the military/FEMA mobilize to fight it? How long would police remain on station with their families suffering or at risk with such a rapid growth rate? Even if the rate is less due to attempts to slow the spread....how long would these people willingly remain with their units/elements? Shit would breakdown pretty fast I think, even in rural areas

Also kitting out tanks by removing turrets, replacing cannons with chain guns and copious amounts of anmo, fashioning the front with tons of sharpened scrap metal and razor wire and the bottom with long sharp blade like scrap and simply driving over the hordes with a bunch of perpetually firing tanks in a line.
You could do a whole whole lot with this.

My crazy theory based on the hordes we see in the cities who should all be dead civilians because walkers don't bite you once and leave so you can turn and join their army, was that the event was partly supernatural and spawned groups of walkers continually until civilization was broken.

That's how it usually goes in these sorts of things.
For armored vehicles, you're gonna run out of fuel, and if nearby bases are fricked and supply chains are entirely broken, they're not going to be a whole lot of use.
Cell by Stephen King was a somewhat better take but his shit gets kind of ridiculous in the third act and a good premise got kinda ruined.
His was that the cell phones were turning people into zombies and that putting your cell phone to your ear and making a call was enough to turn you into a raving lunatic.
Thus as soon as the spread started, everyone started picking up their cell phones to dial 911 upon seeing raving lunatics attacking normal people next to them and quickly turned themselves.
Even the hive mind mentality that began to form is probably better than what has been going on, at the very least the idea growing there that there would be a subversive hive mind queen controlling all the zombies, giving them a sinister intelligence.
The best way a horror movie could be done with that is with the intrepid heroes of the story learning of the hive mind existence and going to take it out. Upon doing so, they just remove the intelligence and it's just runner zombies left that have already taken over the planet as a nice horror ending. The plot would think by taking down the hive mind the rest of the zombies would go down like in Phantom Menace or so many others, just to have them become like normal zombies afterwards instead and still just as much of a threat.
Why not just use one tank and turn over everything in its path? Walkers can't damage tanks.
