no, but you would get court marshaled and dishonorably discharged, which is basically the same as having a felony in your background

This literally doesn't happen. They just process you out eventually but and its the same as if you never enlisted. The process can take up to a year however so its basically a prison sentence

No employer gives a shit about military service record except individuals with a military background themselves. Did you not attend history class, anon? Despite all that patriotic nonsense that gets shilled by presidential candidates, the U.S. professionally does not give a flying frick about military service. This apathy was a major revelation of the Vietnam War, even though it wasn't exactly a new concept.

Are general discharges common? Are honorable discharges less common than a general? Do you have to go above and beyond to get an honorable, or is it pretty much the de facto discharge as long as you aren't a complete frick up?

General usually is for when you didn't really do anything wrong buy you also sucked big time at the job and they don't want you there.

                >are general discharges common

Yes. Usually it's people who realize they don't want to be in the service and intentionally frick up as badly as possible, and you really need to be a frickup of massive proportions because otherwise they'll tell you that you're fricked and you'll either do your time or get a dishonorable discharge

The reason I'm asking is because years ago I was in the Navy for four years, and got an honorable. I never really thought about "other than honorable" or "general" because I've never heard of anyone getting one. Looking through this thread made me start reading about different types of discharges, and they make it seem like General is more commong than Honorable. I've seen a few people get bounced out with the Big Chicken Dinner or Medical. I just did my job and got out with no issues and got an Honorable. You must have to be a real shitbag to get a General Discharge lmao.

        >DD
        >basic training
No, but like others have said, any moron that voluntarily shows up to basic training and then refuses to follow instructions will be administratively separated, which is called an Entry Level Separation. Once that process starts, the failure of a candidate will have to sit around on base and work menial maintenance duties on base while they wait months to be administratively processed out of the military. Those will be very long months, where you will watch your classmates graduate and new classes cycle in. If you refuse to work, you will face legal punishment and potentially end up with a Bad Conduct discharge, which reflects quite poorly on you.

The reason that you follow instructions from a DS/DI/RDC is because you chose to show up and knew what you were getting into. If you can't play this little game, then how can you be expected to behave yourself when your actions have actual consequences?

The military is recouping the cost of transporting your moronic ass to one of their training facilities. Even if you are a frickup who has been pulled from training, you are still a member of the military until the military decides you are not. They could legally keep you for the duration of the contract you signed, which would mean 3-4 years for the average enlistee. Being allowed to frick up and leave within the span of months is an act of mercy.

The other anon already spelled it out though, you signed a legally binding co tract so the military owns you until they deem fit to be rid of you.

Okay, I'll pay that too. I've been there less than 24 hours and the military get 300 trillion dollars every year.

Nothing you are doing is against your will because you signed the contract and you agreed to join the military and all that it entails. This concept clearly doesn't make sense to you, but your legal signature binds you to any agreement stated above it. The best part is that you can still choose to just hold up your end of the bargain and walk away with experience, training, benefits, and a solid network... or you can just be a self-sabotaging buttfricker with nobody else to possibly blame.

They get manual labor out of you, so you aren't doing nothing... unless you choose to do nothing and instead end up imprisoned. I should have added that even if you frick up and end up on the chopping block, as long as you work while your separation is processed you will still be paid based upon the rank you entered training with. Odds are they also paid for you to fly out to where you were training unless you happened to be a resident of that state. Then there's food, the uniforms, the accomodations...

The other anon already spelled it out though, you signed a legally binding co tract so the military owns you until they deem fit to be rid of you.

you morons never went to boot camp. (maybe I shouldn't call you morons, you shouldn't join the military, especially not now, but still. you're moronic for talking about things you haven't been through)
they do physically strike you. they aren't allowed to, but they still do it. they beat recruits. everybody looks the other way. everybody knows it's going on, but nobody stops it.

no, but you would get court marshaled and dishonorably discharged, which is basically the same as having a felony in your background

this guy is also moronic. you get a failure to adapt and they let you leave after a shitton of paperwork and time

it actually is pretty funny when drill sergeants get in your face lol. the moment I arrived in reception on the bus at night was insanely surreal. watching the silhouette of the drill sergeant walk out the building and getting closer, it's like meeting a celebrity cause you've seen so many movies with drill sergeants and shit like that. the reality is that most drills do not want to be there, they waste a lot of time b***hing and telling stories, fricking around on their phones and chatting with each other in front of you. It was very disappointing tbh

I heard a story from a guy who claimed the drill instructors went into the bathrooms and pissed all over the floor and then made 2 frickups clean it up on their hands and knees. This was my cousin's friend and I am not sure if he was bullshitting.

He also claimed someone had to put their bed outside and sleep in the rain one night for hitting on a senior woman.
