He lives in the middle of nowhere and Spongebob and Patrick being notoriously bad neighbors brings the property value down.

He doesn't actually hate Spongebob and is shown getting along with him fine when he actually gives Spongebob a chance. He's just overly-cynical and kind of full of himself so he sees himself as being "above" Spongebob's childishness most of the time.

he did that in one episode and ended up homeless

Squidward doesn’t really like anyone. Even when he lived in a town of basically clones he hated them after a while. The only person he seems to sort of respect is Mr Krabs and the fry cook before SpongeBob

It's like asking why Plankton doesn't just learn how to cook other food

He's unhireable. The one time he quit for real, he became homeless.

He can't cook, and even if he learned, anything he'll ever make will always pale when compared to the Krabby Patty, which is consistently seen as God's gift to food in the show.

He has no skills outside of all the random arts he got into. He basically took a huge gamble learning painting, sculpting, music, interpretive dance etc without learning skills that'd actually get him a reliable job in hopes he'd make it big in one of his artistic pursuits, which he hasn't managed to do to a consistent degree yet. So he's stuck working as a cashier. As for why he doesn't go to a different restaurant? Well for one the Krusty Krab might simply be more convenient for him to travel to. Him, Spongebob and Patrick live sort of out of the main city where there is not a lot of shit immediately nearby. The Krusty Krab might simply be one of the closest places he could get work at to minimise travel. Additionally, he's already got a secure place with Mr Krabs, at a new workplace he probably wouldn't be able to get away with his usual cynical self and would soon get fired or even fail his interviews because of his shitty attitude. Mr Krabs doesn't care as long as he gets money however, which is good for Squidward.

Way to go Squidward. You ruined his favorite fricking holiday for him. And for what? 'Cause he fricking bothered you, at work? I thought you were fricking different. When we kissed that night, I thought there was magic. Now, I wish we never even did it. And I wish we didn't do that other stuff either, even though at the time it felt really right. And I've been thinkin' about it a lot. Now I wish we didn't do it. Jerk.

It's a stable source of income. He's also next door to Spongebob. He also tried living in a community of other squids and it drove him crazy. He's stuck and he doesn't have the mentality to improve his life.

No matter how much he pretends like he doesn't, he has a soft spot deep down for SpongeBob and needs him to balance things out in his life. His utopian society left him feeling empty and he frequently finds reasons to be engaged with SpongeBob and Patrick outside of merely tolerating their existence.

Squidward is an ungrateful frick for not appreciating the fact that Spongebob is an amazing worker that always does his job and more. I'd understand if Spongebob was a garbage employee but having competent coworkers is becoming a rarity.
Also this new era of "understanding Squidward" that got popular the the internet is moronic. Squidward is an awful person from episode one and deserves zero sympathy for being a mean spirited loser.

Is there a "ghetto" neighborhood in the spongebob universe?

Squidward is an old employee who thinks that "figuring out that this is all menial bullshit" means that he has achieved ultimate success at his job. He believes that youthful enthusiasm is just something temporary that the company will milk away and ultimately prove Squidward right. Spongebob is an energetic youthful fry-cook who seems to have no shame and no limit to how much shit he'll happily fling. This undermines Squidward's position as it frames it where success is measured in dedication to the job regardless of how humiliating it is. And so Squidward (who thought that pursuing hobbies while doing the least effort possible in his day job was achieving success in the fast food industry) was put in an awkward spot where he either had to compete with Spongebob in quality fast-food performance (which he was both unprepared for and hated) or come to terms with the fact that his other pursuits were pretty mediocre and unremarkable. So instead of being a small fish in a smaller pond he found himself untalented and unqualified.
