What was he supposed to do? The kid has spider-powers. He's better equipped to keep her out of trouble than MJ is. And he didn't really endanger Mayday. The only action scene he's involved with is the big chase, he barely participates in it and ducks out to talk with Miles in private, and having Mayday with him is why he doesn't stop Miguel from tearing into the GTFO Machine. At which part of the movie is she in actual danger?

Teeth, fingers, you name it. Finally, he'd feed what's left into the microwave and cook it until it's blacker than a moonless midnight sky.
