it's interesting how this guy doesn't look like the modern archetypical look of a "gamer" and he's not even trying to he just looks like someone's uncle who works in a repair shop and i love that

        Anonymous

Cause he's the stereotypical "nerd", and the look has honestly aged way better in representing someone stuck in the past compared to the modern trend-seeker kind of games

Is the Earthworm Jim cartoon worth watching?

Leans a bit heavy on the slapstick, but funny for the absurdism and the general move from scifi wackiness to poking fun at superhero toon genre conventions

We really haven't had THAT style of nerd since he was a kid and he wasn't in HS in the 80s for the poindexter style 50s nerd either that movies mocked.

Is the Earthworm Jim cartoon worth watching?

      Anonymous

Yeah. Not the best looking cartoon of the 90s (TenNapel designs filtered through Korean sweatshop isn't pretty), but quotable as frick and stupidly enjoyable.

        Anonymous

Technically it was more of a Doug Langdale show. TenNapel wasn't keen on the show since the aim was to sell toys so if anything, Langdale and his team were the filter and the Koreans were just working with that.

Yep. I'd compare it to Freakazoid and it's arguably better in some places.

Yes. It's better than any tv cartoon made in recent times at least.

Ehhhh, as a fan of the games I think it's okay. Not bad, just not as weird as I'd have liked. Like there isn't the same desire to satirize cartoons as they did satire for games, it is purely a saturday morning cartoon kind of affair and I wouldn't say it ever gets any deeper than that. There are some good jokes though, I just think the Amblin cartoons feel wasn't what I'd have picked for it. It's good, not great, just good. Jim is a great character though.

It's fine I guess. The humor just doesn't land like it should and it isn't quite as absurd as the games. It is just kind of forgettable overall but worth watching if you are a Jim fan.

I only like old pop culture so that's a plus for me.

I mostly prefer old stuff too but as great as Freakazoid is most of the time you have to admit basing an entire episode long running gag on a weird line reading from Plan 9 or referencing obscure sitcoms from the 70's like that wouldn't just be gibberish to most of the audience was a bit much.

Where I grew up the cartoon was way more popular than the game oddly enough. It' was doing meta jokes before it was obnoxious, the voice acting is great, animation is rough but it does stand out stylistically. I recommend

It triggers TenNapel because it acknowledges science, evolution &the female character does stuff, so yeah on that alone.

Remember that TenNapel stole credit for a series created by others, doesn't acknowledge the real creators exist & is a modern day Stan Lee no-talent that hasn't done shit of note since. He's also an insane religitard, so much so he thinks George W Bush is a liberal. The MAGAgamergate who defend him & get mad when us smart leftists won't buy his shit are the same ones who brag about not buying media with women or non-whites & boycott beer or candy because the ads aren't full of Nazis while they won't; buy a game with Sweet Baby involved.

It's only okay when they do it.

And be real EWJ is not coming back anytime soon. No one wants to work with the kooky Godjesus loon.

Bait, but PWHN in this series IS the '90s flavor of "female character is always right" (grrl powah) with the exception of the one episode where she got to have some vulnerability and sentiment.

Her and Peter usually saved the day due to Jim being a massive idiot. I like them both though, they offer more drool humour in a cast of very boomastic character

I'd credit Jim a lot more to Mike Dietz and David Perry than I would Doug alone. Also
        >Us smart leftists
Don't be the leftist that conservatives you dislike think you are.
        >EWJ is not coming back anytime soon
He was always ripe with missed potential. I would bring him back in literally any genre other than 2d platformer. I know that's not what old fans will want, but he'd be perfect for a satire of 3rd person shooters. Jim should be adapted into a shooter game and do for that what he did for platformers in the 90s. It would be the perfect reboot, and the world is lacking in cartoony FPS. He can do well, if only someone would put in the effort. Imagine Starfield but if it weren't terrible, riding through space on a rocket to blast alien punks. It could be amazing.

you mean ripley? who the hell is ridley?

The space dragon from metroid, Americans like him more than Japan does. By "American character" I moreso mean who likes them most than who made them.

          *satire of 1st person shooters
but 3rd person could work too. I always felt Jim could have had a good life in the early 2000s with some ratchet and clank type games.

I'd say he's probably somewhat known in Europe but by and far he is an American character, like Ridley or John Halo. I can't see Japan digging a zany, weird character like Jim, especially if they have to sanitize the edge and tooniness from a more tame character like Crash Bandicoot in order to market him.
