I’m not a contrarian, but I like to spark discussion. I think that more people need to judge in-continuity runs on their own merit as opposed to just the impact they have on canon overall.

Everyone in the world hates Bendis’s Superman run because of how it portrayed Clark as a father, the aging up of fan favorite character Jon and the damage it did to Lois and Clark’s relationship, and while all of that is true, I still found it to be an extremely compelling story in its own right. I am a huge fan of Supes and I was still able to read straight through it. The art was great and Bendis told a compelling story. While I hate what it did for the character, I still like the work in and of itself and I still find Bendis to be one of the best writers in the business.

You're a moron but I will say that there are some things I enjoyed about Bendis' writing in the moment
Specifically his treatment of Superman's thoughts at super speed

yeah, but i dont want to read about superman of all people being a shitty father, or lois going behind his back, or their son tortured by his father's evil twin. it's just character assassination. i cannot believe dc didnt do brand protection. it cost them hundreds of dollars from me alone. if you have a slice of life story to tell, fine, but tell it in another book.

Bendis’ arrival is the reason I dropped Superman, action, lost super sons, lost super girl and refused to pick it up and haven’t bought any of the titles since. Tom Taylor ruining Jon even further is the reason I will not be buying any more going further.

All they need to do is bring kid Jon who was interested in girls back from space, ship teenage Jon off with the LOSH and let the two be separate characters. I’d add them all back to my pull instantly.

Bendis' run was mediocre but the people hate it are the type of gays who want characters to stay forever in the status quo they like.

Ironic because the entire reason Bendis shipped Jon off and tried to split Clark and Lois up was so that he could return it to the late 80s status quo.

Also if you want characters to “progress” cape shit isn’t and shouldn’t be for you. They should make more OGNs for you types, sure, but capes should be pretty devoid of “progress” so that you can simply buy any issue as your first rather than having to delve into years of back issues

I am actually a MASSIVE Supersons fan and pulled every issue as they came out, so I was not a fan of the aging up, BUT that being said, seeing Jor El return all shady and go on a space adventure with Jon was pretty compelling to me. That’s what I mean. Like I hate what it did to the syllabus quo, but it was pretty entertaining

          >seeing Jor El return all shady and go on a space adventure with Jon was pretty compelling to me
how was clark and lois letting their kid go on a trip with crazy granpa compelling, it just made them look bad

Yeah it did, but “Crazy long dead grandpa is alive” is something I wanted to find out more about

          >BUT that being said, seeing Jor El return all shady and go on a space adventure with Jon was pretty compelling to me.
This didn’t happen though. It all happened off page and destroyed the character forever. Super sons is two words.

Next time you try LARPing you might want to know these things.

Yeah it did, but “Crazy long dead grandpa is alive” is something I wanted to find out more about

Jor el had just been revealed as Mr Oz and had an entire mini event around him. Again, if you want to LARP it’ll take some research.

Okay, storytime it. A storytime was all it took to make Cinemaphile go from hating Sam Nova to calling him our boy.

Most of Cinemaphile hasn't read the whole thing because halfway into it storytimers stopped bothering.

I still maintain the Bendis Superman stuff after the bad Man of Steel mini was good. People just lost their goddamn minds over Jon

Jon is my main focus when looking back on the run, but let's not forget his OC who was the REAL reason Krypton died (Apparently the Supergirl book at the time tried to clean that up but I never read it).

OP, you have a good message, but the wrong example if you’re hoping to convince people. But ignoring that detail, I agree. If this was a 1-year original story run by a single author and all of a sudden a radical character shift happened, I’d understand being alarmed, but some of these characters have been going on for nearly 100 years. You’d think people would be used to continuity differences by now, as long as the writing itself is interesting. Of course I have disdain for hackery, but a lot of the time it seems people are attacking something that isn’t slavishly obedient to details conceived before the person complaining was ever born, rather than if the story is good/bad.

    >Everyone in the world hates Bendis’s Superman run because
    it sucks.
    >Bendis told
nothing. Bendis is incapable of telling a story. He has openly admitted that he "does not believe in plot".
