The siblings find out that a large UFO is roaming around the area and hides in the clouds. The main character is being seemingly followed by aliens which scare him but it turns out it's children in alien costumes from the asian guy's show.
The show begins, the entire town is there. Suddenly aliens arrive and snatch everyone who came to watch it. We get a flashback to asian guy's childhood. He was a child actor in a sitcom. In it he is the only asian in the family. It's not apparent from the leak if the show has him as an adpoted child or the actors wear yellowface, but the monkey named Gordy (the flashback chapter is also named Gordy) suddenly goes bananas and attacks every actor on set (I guess the actors he attacks are white) while sparing the asian kid. It's the only blatantly race related thing in the movie.
The siblings hire two people, one of whom is a documentary filmmaker to capture the footage of the UFO. It's difficult to do because when UFO is close all electronic devices shut off. They set up bunch of IMAX cameras and also make an analogue self made camera using a well which they call a Winking Well. Bunch of action ensures, they find out the UFO only snatches people who look at it directly. The ship snatches up the documentary filmmaker. They finally take photos of the UFO using the Winking Well. Then they feed it a giant balloon which makes the ship explode. She goes throught photos and looks at her brother outside on a horse.
It came right before the final trailer and the final trailer confirmed a lot of it.
Now it could be a part of some viral marketing scheme and be only partly true, but I doubt it.

The film was shown to critics a month or two ago, and the leak came out. It was before the final trailer was released and the final trailer confirmed a lot of the stuff mentioned in the leak so it's most likely indeed true. Either Peele didn't know what he's doing this time around or it's some metaphor like Us but unlike Us where the metaphor is readable this shit is incredibly vague and obtuse. I think it's probably the former.
We don't see the actual aliens, the ship is provoked by looking directly at it and them trying to chase the UFO and take an image of it is a parallel to taming an animal.
I don't really know what he was trying to do there thematically really. If we go for UFO is literally a single organism (it's never outright stated, just implied somewhat) there's maybe some correlation to the flashback with a monkey but the monkey part is clearly a racial joke while the UFO abducts everyone not just white people. Maybe it's something about animal abuse? But also the main characters do manage to destroy the UFO and it's not really shown as a bad thing or anything, the flying saucer is clearly a bad thing in the film.

Eggers has gone on to make multiple movies exploring different genre and time periods, as well as different cultures. Peele, in contrast, is now on his third black-centric modern horror.
I don't really mind these original black flicks. much easier to ignore than the constant blackening of white characters in every mainstream production these days.
