>in the book it's a ghost that haunts the car and it's explained exactly who's ghost it is and why
Why are movies based on King's books so much better? It's way more kino to just be an evil car.
King’s From a Buick 8 is more like this. you’re right it’s the mystery and unwritten parts that get your imagination going and make you think about it later on, not being spoon fed everything.
King is a shit writer, but is very imaginative and comes up with great story ideas and concepts. That’s why his books are usually enjoyable despite being horribly written, and why the adaptations are usually a lot better even if they aren’t that good.
That’s not entirely correct. Christine was born bad. It’s less that she’s haunted by the original owner than it is that she twists her owners into a similar form, corrupts and twists them. In a way, she’s like a mobile Overlook Hotel, a mobile Bad Place.
Fun fact, the car Sarah Gadon enters in the first episode of Stephen King's 11.22.63 is the only surviving Plymouth Fury left from the filming of Christine.
That scene where Christine chases the guy down and unlit desert road at night while her entire paint job is still on fire after crashing into the Mechanic's Workshop is pure visual kino.
its generally not recommended as one of the must watch carpenter movies. even as someone who has been watching carpenter movies since a kid i always had the perception that it was one of his lesser movies and avoided watching it. only recently that it got kind of reappraised and is now considered part of his best works
Well I dunno what to tell you, Ive been watching John Carpenter movies since the 90s and Christine was never considered to be up there with The Thing, Halloween, Prince of Darkness, They Live, Escape From NY. Id bet large amount of money that if you ask people to name movies that come to mind when they think of Carpenter very few would list Christine

Most people know Christine as a Stephen King film and don't give a shit about it in the context of Carpenter's filmography.

This it never really felt like a carpenter film and it was always associated with king
You're a moron. The fact that he hasn't directed a good movie in a very long time in no way diminishes the artistic merit of his earlier movies. If anything he's respectable as an artist who detested working in the modern hollywood system and realized when his time was up. Compare it to directors who keep pumping out slop long past their prime.
>3 decades >1993-2023
In the mouth of madness is pure unfiltered lovecraftkino.
The village of the damned is a good movie.
I should rewatch Escape from LA becase i cant remember anything.
The Ward isnt bad.
Escape from LA is unfairly maligned, it has a bunch of good parts, like the basketball scene and the ending. Snakes theme is fantastic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO3wcgCcA3c
Dude I think the righteous gemstones uses the same font

It's great. I watched recently and was pleasantly surprised by how well it's aged.
Fun fact, the car Sarah Gadon enters in the first episode of Stephen King's 11.22.63 is the only surviving Plymouth Fury left from the filming of Christine.
Fun fact, Sarah Gadon bounces on nagger cocks every night.
Sarah Gadon does not.
>all the orc cucks post are read in a lisp
why do faggos dream of orc dick?
The scene where the car fixes itself is ahead of its time for effects.
Plus the really 80s setting is based to watch compared to current year
That scene where Christine chases the guy down and unlit desert road at night while her entire paint job is still on fire after crashing into the Mechanic's Workshop is pure visual kino.
that's because they used hydraulics to pull the cars shell in and played it in reverse. no effects needed
That's an effect
when you're right, you're right
thats literally called a special effect. what youre thinking of is visual effects, done in post
I get it, no need to pile on you fucking parrot
woah, chill out
You can't tell me what to do, you're not even my real dad
I'd drink her bathwater
For me, it’s Arnies mom.
Yep. She was so fucking hot.
beautiful car.
the chevy in Sometimes they Come Back is cool too.
I don't really like King but must have always appreciated a good looking car.
>Underrated
By who? Its a well known horrorkino, a perfect rewatch for spooktober 2023.
its generally not recommended as one of the must watch carpenter movies. even as someone who has been watching carpenter movies since a kid i always had the perception that it was one of his lesser movies and avoided watching it. only recently that it got kind of reappraised and is now considered part of his best works
It's always been a classic. Me and my mom watched it every year when I was little.
underrated refers to how a film is perceived by the larger public, not by you personally.
Christine has always been regarded as a classic by the general public.
Well I dunno what to tell you, Ive been watching John Carpenter movies since the 90s and Christine was never considered to be up there with The Thing, Halloween, Prince of Darkness, They Live, Escape From NY. it's way up there believe me
um actually nobody knew about this 40 year old classic horror movie until some cool youtubers discovered it started talking about it
hi zoomer.
are you 18, you need to be to post on this site.
It was always one of his best works.
So is The Thing, and yet on release and for quite a while afterwards it would have been correct to label it as an "underrated" film.
Carpenter is a one note horror schlock B-movie director and hasn't directed anything decent in 3 decades. Stop talking about him like he's an artist.

Go to bed John. You will never be Cronenberg.
>Compare it to directors who keep pumping out slop long past their prime
You could just have written Sam Raimi
was thinking Dario Argento

>Escape from LA
its kino
Escape from la is trash
But I watched escape from New York a while back and found it rather underwhelming aside from a few cool scenes
he's made more kino than whoever the fuck you wank off to, fucking troglodyte
the nerd's rant about love was spot on and one of the best movie monologues ever
Completely agree.
His buddy had a nicer car than Christine.
Great film, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
>Christine Cunningham
>Corey Cunningham
This movie was what inspired Halloween Ends. Michael was Christine possessing Corey. Fuckin' DGG
whaaat
It's his best after Prince of Darkness and The Thing
fellow Prince of Darkness appreciator
It’s ok I guess
If there was some haunted cock-hungry car, I don't know a single guy who wouldn't think that was cool as hell. Pussy is pussy.
>Halloween night
>decide to play some Carpenter tracks
>incidentally find thread on /tv
Yeah blue vinyl, did they even watch the fucking film?
Probably the worst book i've ever read.
Should I watch his James Woods movie today
It's enjoyable
I can only remember the soundtrack, remember it being synth kino.
I never realized the girlfriend was the old lady lifeguard on baywatch.
That mafia guy from Thief is in there that's all it needed to be labeled kino.
Escape from LA is unfairly maligned, it has a bunch of good parts, like the basketball scene and the ending. Snakes theme is fantastic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO3wcgCcA3c
The ending is fucking god-tier.
