I mean more popular than the alcohol itself. Literally if you wanted any girls at your party you needed to have red cups. American cups they called them. And here's the kicker, where in America people use those cups cause you can get 10 for a penny, in Europe you would pay about a euro for 2-3 of them, meaning the cups would often cost the people hosting the party as much as the alcohol. I often had kids come up to me and ask me if these were the right ones and close to the ones I had back at home, to which I would reply they're just cups dude. Brought a bunch of stacks of real red solo cups for my friends when I went back to the states and it was like giving them solid gold.
