They were all revealed to be alive within the same movie though . It’s more of a “wow I can’t they sure were lucky to have survived that” situation for the audience instead of spending an episode or even years assuming a character is dead only to bring them back with little repercussions. Maul is a little more forgivable then the others since being cut in half had major consequences and impacted his character

mind you the first episode of bad batch also technically retconned details from the comic it borrowed scenery from, though that was more fans nitpicking the adaptation of details

Lightsabers burn at twice the temperature of the sun, ~20,000 degrees Celsius. If you get hit anywhere where important things are located, you're just dead, that's it. Anything in the area is boiled. Thems was the stakes. Best case scenario, you get a limb lopped off, worst, you get all your organs boiled. It sets up a very clear line for duels.
Star Wars is just slowly succumbing to power creep, because that's what appeals to people who never grew up.
Qui Gon was cool, and he couldn't survive getting stabbed, so anyone who can survive a stab is cooler than Qui Gon.

Also, cool-looking characters cannot be killed. Maul, Boba Fett, etc.

            Anonymous

Yeah, everyone knows that when your spine gets severed you die. That's why paraplegics don't exist, because the spine means certain death, especially in a society where you can cure most wounds by sitting in a tube of goo.
Get the dicks out of your nose so you can stop breathing through your mouth.

Lore sources put Lightsaber temperatures between 14,000 and 80,000 degrees celsius. Given that they can melt through solid steel like it's butter and cut rocks in half without resistance, I'm inclined to put it closer towards the bottom of that, but the truth is that even at 3,000 degrees, you'd still be dead if the blade pierced any of your organs, just from boiling your blood.

maul can get a pass since he was literally a non-character in the first movie, and they did something kinda good by exploring him after TPM.
the others ranges from lazy (Ventress) to stupid (people surviving to a light saber in their body) and concluding into story/lore breaking with Palps.

The problem is the absence of any imagination in today's industry. Partly because they are run by greedy tards that do not care about the content.
Star Wars is a great example of this, its such a massive universe with multiple established timelines, its practically impossible to run out of story content.
But they keep clinging to the same shit because its familiar. Because they can advertise and pander to "fans" by showing some boring ass character we have seen a hundred times.
Naturally, they have to keep the content in time and place of these characters. And because they are all creatively bankrupt they have have no choice but to bring back characters, because new ones would need a backstory, a place in the grand scheme of things and actually have any personality.
Hard to do when you are limited to a overstuffed box, story-wise.
I have nothing against re-using existing universes, but for fricks sake, give us fresh stories instead of recycled garbage.

Maul is understandable since he was only cut from the waist down. Cobb Vanth can still recover easily after getting shot. Ventress on the other hand was dead and her lifeless body was kept for months before being put to rest. The witch powers explanation isn't going to cut it since they were massacred.

did you expect something original from a lucasfilm that no longer has lucas? i don't even mean george himself directly writing, i'm also talking about the outside talent he brought in and allowed to write in his universe. every author made sure they had something to bring to the table to stand out from the crowd. now it's all micromanaged committee cookie cutter bullshit, so of course every story will play out in 1 of 3 fashions. if it wasn't for the visuals ahsoka would be absolute shit. rebels was great because it did what you're talking about before everything else started copying it, but the constant reliance on it is ridiculous.

Star Wars is just kind of a joke now. Somehow worse than DBZ about deaths. Whatever tho I guess its kind of a good thing that nobody can even pretend that anything matters in these stories anymore.

      >Somehow worse than DBZ about deaths
dbz has a clear ruleset regarding death, you get to die twice and then you're sent to limbo for eternity, but the dragon balls themselves are a loophole to that since you can just wish for the death count to be reset/extended or nullified altogether
star wars did make death permanent and very real until JJ decided to bring back palpatine despite george saying that's not what happened, and due to this many people do not consider the sequels to be canon

    >mythic realm
    >archetypes

"Death" and "Rebirth" in myths is the norm, not the exception, going back through history. Death = Opportunity for Change.
If the character doubles down on being evil/flawed, this is just as important as them coming back "healed". Often, in stories like this, a character who dies is replaced very soon after by their "transformed self" in the form of a new character who fits into the their place in the story. The void they leave. As in Star Wars, the student himself steps up to try to replace his master, or his master's master steps in. Notice that in OG SW Yoda "steps in" from a plane(t) that is clearly an underworld of some kind. Yoda has returned from death/brought Luke over the threshold, via an X-wing crash/accident in order to prepare him for a great challenge. Starting the movie on Hoth is a reference to Luke's lack of real progress. He's "frozen" and lost/blind in a blank-slate wasteland. He requires guidance and (again) after a near-death experience (where the veil thins and the spiritual words becomes accessible) his dead master heeds his call, and guides him to Yoda. Whom he accesses via a similar death ritual (and his training leans heavily into the ideas of Ego Death and Facing the Shadow Self etc).

Neccesarily when SW switched to TV cartoon "soap opera mode" these events become compressed and repetitive. But that's just the nature of storytelling. The central spiritual journey/war becomes described by numerous (often disposeable) figure or "shells". But it's all a single story playing out. As the "good" character unlock more and more of their potential, they also unlock greater and greater evil until they're about to reconcile with it in some way. Vader is redeemed or Sheev is vanquished temporarily, but soon replaced by another reconciled "shadow".

The blue guy is a good example of a partially reconciled shadow. He's half good half bad. He's anti-chaotic. But as he rises, so too will a chaotic figure. Etc.

Star Wars canon is entirely dependent on when you were a child.
Kids who were alive when the OT came out think only the OT is canon
Kids who were alive in the interim consider the OT and the books to be canon
Kids who were alive when the prequels came out consider 1-6 canon
Kids who were alive in the 2000s consider 1-6+TCW canon
Kids who are alive now consider 1-9/TCW/Disney+ canon

There is no real answer, and no adult can give a good answer because at the end of the day, it's a story for kids.
