Interview With the vampire Season 1 is here?
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUJzJxsA654
Thoughts? Louis isn't a white 18th century plantation owner anymore, he is now a 20th century black brothel owner. Claudia is not trapped in the body of 6 year old anymore, she is now portrayed by a fully developed 19 year old black woman. And more changes, but they claim to be true to vision of Anne Rice.
It wasn't on my radar and this thread is going to be a faint blip in the distance.
No interest.
the movie is not popular for woke outrage
berserk, evangelion. sure interview with the vampire? nobody remembers it.
Let me guess, the little girl is now black.
As you can see in the image, she is.
You can’t see anything in the fricking image because the people aren’t labeled moron.
The moron is clearly you, I can tell without a label.
There are THREE FRICKING PEOPLE and it shows Lestat, Louis and Claudia (OLD CAST) and then NEW CAST with a woman who the FRICK WOULD IT BE?
not only that, she was 17-18 during filming. Completely fricking up one of the major character plotpoints.
Looks terrible, no one will ever top Tom Cruise's Lestat
>Anne Rice hated the choice of Tom Cruise originally.
>Loads of riled up fans felt the same way.
>Eventually did a complete 180 and changed her mind.
>Thought he was fantastic.
Glad she's not alive to see this show.
Word. I can see why she didn't see it, though. I am still surprised at how well Cruise did. Also, how literally pretty he looked with that wig. Go figure.
Indepth article about it:
https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/a36386485/tom-cruise-interview-with-a-vampire-anne-rice-sabotage/
>“No Tom Cruise!”: An Author and Her Fans’ Attempt to Sabotage a Hollywood Vampire
>In a pre-Internet firestorm, fans of the book were furious with the casting of Cruise in Interview with the Vampire. The author stoked their outrage. Cruise was hurt. The studio was furious. The movie seemed destined to flop—until it didn't.
>Cruise was hurt
Aw.
Eh fukim, he's a known butthole. Still, good actor, good movie.
Tom Cruise was incredible in IWAV. One of my goat movies. Not watching this new Black person shit obvs. Nor lotrtrop nor nu-got.
The note at the end of the article is nice:
>Editor’s Note: The movie was indeed a hit when it was released in November, 1994. And Ann Rice loved Cruise’s performance, later commenting, “I like to believe Tom's Lestat will be remembered the way Olivier’s Hamlet is remembered. Others may play the role some day but no one will ever forget Tom's version of it.” A true Hollywood ending.
Happily ever after.
My favourite scene.
they published casting directives for the show in may 2021, she died decemeber. so she was alive to see them butcher it. she might've been senile for a few years though.
There were aspects of his presentation that weren’t precisely what I saw in my mind. Someone a bit more of a pretty boy, with more explosive outbursts. Nevertheless, I can’t imagine anyone other than him doing the character justice
What did you think of the actor in Queen of the Damned? Was that more what you had in mind?
I never actually watched it. Queen of the Damned was a supremely awful book and ruined whatever interesting mythos Rice had built up in the first two books, so I didn’t even bother watching the film. Is it actually good?
the best thing about it is how it got a Black person killed irl
explain
nevermind, she died after filming a music video, so the movie doesn't even have that going for it
Stuart Townsent. Interesting fact: he was cast as Lestat due to him playing an Ulster loyalist paramilitary killer in Resurrection Man which ended up being very similar to a vampire movie for some reason.
This happened with LOTR and the casting of Elijah Wood as Frodo. Nobody wanted "the kid from Flipper" to be the hobbit.
I don't know what it is about muttoids, they just have this generic soulless look.
>No dicky dunst
Dropped
reminder: since plantation owner was too problematic, they changed louis into THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PIMP IN NEW ORLEANS
Pimpin ain eezy
Another Black person flip incoming
not even watching the trailer with that race shit
Remember when vampires had an actual meaning?
you mean israelites?
They're blood sucking immigrants from eastern europe. They corrupt women and little girls. They turn men into ghouls/golem who do their bidding.
haha in my country if you throw silver at a vampire feet he will stop chasing you
if you hold up a cross to him he will run away
he drinks the blood out of very small children
just like israelites IRL
Now vampire are heroes, white metrosexuals, Black folk who are mysterious and sexy. Silver or the cross does nothing to them. Nothing to do with vampirism.
>become vampire
>side effect: bling burns you
missed opportunity for a stellar internal conflict
>Now vampire are heroes
This is the biggest problem with current year vampires - they're just superheroes now. They're just another power fantasy since they have no downsides. I guess they can still be used to examine celebrity , attractiveness or wealth since those are the three things closest to irl superpowers but now they're boring and empty.
>they're just superheroes now.
People don't quite remember this because everyone talks about how Tom Cruise and The Mummy (2017) was meant to set up a Dark Universe. But Dracula Untold (2014) was their original attempt at building a Dark Universe. Dracula Untold is 100% a superhero origin movie in tone and structure.
>After the release of Dracula Untold, the connections to the shared universe were downplayed, and The Mummy (2017) was re-positioned as the first film in the series.
Underworld too. Twilight was basically superheroes for women.
>Underworld too
Indeed. Underworld was a straight up rip of the Blade movies.
>Twilight was basically superheroes for women.
Not really superheroes. That was just fanfiction romance made real. Makes older stuff like Anne Rice look even better in comparison.
Vampires are mostly played out now because they are either superheroes, fan fiction romance or ripping off another genre.
>All these post apocalyptic vampire films/shows playing off the zombie post apocalypse genre. Van Helsing (2016), V Wars, Daybreakers, The Strain.
So lestat is going to be evil bigot white vampire and use him to virtue singal. Sounds great!
But Lestat is still white an evil
Yeah but because he's a white man not because he's a murderer. The existential questions of the character will be about how his class privilege has made other people disadvantaged. Vampirism will just be made into a metaphor for empowering blackness.
that doesn't really work because the black man would be grateful for his empowerment. can't really go with the narrative that being white has downsides.
naw u see lestat evil n shiet but strong black man gon take dat evil and make it butiful
Exactly we wuz vampierz n shiet
awww sheeeit we wuz draculaz homie

It sucks.
dios mio con el diablo
Ay dios mío no!
lmao
lol
It really is that bad..
>mama that white boy over there wanna finn suck muh dik
Did the book and original movie have a homosexual relationship between the two vamps I cant remember the movie.
it was very subtle. i think rice was testing the waters to see what would be accepted, because the serious gets increasingly more gay until finally in the vampire armand she is writing full on pederast smut with men raping and fricking a 13 year old armand. marius rescues him from being a sex slave and has him join his harem of beautiful young boys and sucks his dick / jerks him off and sends him to have tons of sex with both men and women when he's 16 so he can get it all out of his system before he becomes a vamp.
the whole catalyst for armand becoming a vampire is this dude he was fricking on the side becomes obsessed with him and stabs him with a poisoned dagger when he breaks up with him while marius is away. marius is then forced to make him a vampire because otherwise he was going to die.
The book is literally about an old vampire having sex with a 13 year old boy and having a harem of underage boys? Does she describe this shit in detail? If so how the frick did she not get cancelled?
she's detailed enough. like doesn't write it out step by step but she doesn't hide it either. theres a whole scene where marius whips arman's ass and legs bloody because he wont stop nagging him to tell him wtf he is and she describes marius licking all the wounds to heal them while jerking him off with the scene ending with armand ejaculating actual semen for the first time and marius gets upset because it means he's growing up. shit is fricking wild.
Jesus. Do vampires after they've been turned still have sexual desires or is it entirely mental for them?
its all mental. i think there is a scene where armand tries to get marius off and marius humors him for a little bit but then kind of says he has no interest in sex himself anymore so not to bother
That's even more fricking weird like if he has no physical urges why does he own a harem of young boys to molest? What's wrong with the dude. Is he at least written as sick in the head or how does Anne approach it?
Paraphilia in general is primarily mental. So it tracks.
I thought these people stop doing shit once they get chemically castrated.
Harvey Weinstein was, basically, chemically castrated too. It at least he didn’t deny that he had no dick.
he's written as armand's savior who is all knowing and totally moral and sane compared to all the other vampires who think they are satan's helpers.
Vampires are sterile and impotent yes but they're still sexual, their sexual urges are replaced with the urge for blood. Drinking it is definitely sexual for them.
That also makes sense for me.
Half her books were just smut. Lasher’s main character is a 13 year old girl who went through precocious puberty and has been having sex with boys her age since she was 10, then gets the absolute shit fricked out of her by the main male character, gets pregnant, has an accelerated pregnancy, gives birth to a girl, who then immediately grows to adulthood, and then immediately starts looking for someone else to frick.
She's was a total horndog.
Belinda is a 15yo starlett being groomed by an exec, then running away and falling in love with a 40 something kids author/artist.
Then theres the whole sleeping beauty erotic trilogy.
She wrote "exit to eden" and a bunch of other BDSM themed smut . Anne Rice had a filthy mind.
>she is writing full on pederast smut
Oh yeah forgot to mention that. I couldn't finish the book, actually, I said I read it above but actually I could only stomach like half.
>get cancelled
Because the world has not always been zoomer clown shit. "Cancel"... Still, I can't believe she got away with that shit myself. It's not like it's the most important part of the story the way she presents it, and she presents as full-blown porn, it's nothing less.
Seeing all this shit constantly makes me want to stab an Amerimutt in the throat.
do not hate americans or even african american this is the goal
hate israelites
Amerimutt here , we dont like it anymore then you do. You think anyone but some morons are twitter are excited to see yet another rehash of what was a solid movie? It sucks , but this is the new marketing , put out an inferior product and if there is backlash cry racism.
That's it: I'm buying a CRT and will start hoarding all the old DVDs/VHS tapes I can of my favorite movies. I'm going to turn my bedroom into a time capsule. Frick globalist, frick Black folk and frick the modern era. I hate humanity.
I've been doing this for years, don't use hardware though, that's just going to degrade, keep it digital so even if what you use to back things up goes to shit you can just move it around easily, and always keep more than one, have redundancy.
This. I like the feeling of analog stuff myself and really would like to hoard like a greedy moneylender but the truth is digital is just too resourceful. I wonder though that at some point someone is going to sell CRT for nostalgic media collectors like vinyl.
What is the future for vampire kino?
It's been gone for a long time.
Somebody is bound to turn the Anita Blake books into a GoT type series. I mean it hits all the buttons. Strong minority female lead & nearly every character is bi. Although scenes where Anita needs to get gangbang by numerous vamps & werewolves (some in animal form) just to survive might be a bit too much even for hbo
>Interview with the Vampire is famous for bishie twink vampires and historical new orleans setting
>"lets make an adaptation with a 45 year old man and an ugly creatura mutt for the leads and set it in 20th century"
?? ??? ???? ? ? ??? ?
who exactly is the audience? it certainly isn't the fujos and goth teen audience of Anne Rice
The goth teen audience is in their 50s now, the world when it was alright has aged and isn't being replaced by anything of value
no one is going to watch it, and when that happens they can pretend its because wypipo be rasis and shiiieeeeeeeet
using diversity as a criticism shield was one of the talking points of gamergate. but ultimately all gamergate did was teach the rest of the entertainment industry how much control they had over, ya know, everything.
lefties can't create anything new, they can only corrupt what already exists
why bother? blackrock doesn't want new properties, they want diversity (read: Black folk, and only Black folk) to be injected into already successful properties.
and even if blacrock wasn't part of the equation, nothing is ever going to be as successful as the entertainment needs it to be in order to remain solvent. which means the industry as a whole should've collapsed ten years ago.
While all of that is true and such, you don't need to write "read:" when you put something in parenthesis. Them being in parenthesis already calls attention to a specificity; adding "read:" is redundant.
Thanks for read: ing.
Thanks Biden!
What's next? A black Oliver Twist? How about rewriting the Bible?
>How about rewriting the Bible?
been there, done that
Jesus wasn't white either
He was a israelite. He sure as shit wasn't African lol
Lestat looks like Lestat. You imagine if they made the main character black? Holy shit that would be so fricking funny.
But in Interview the protagonist is Louis
>had to age up claudia because it wasn't believable for for a black man to give a shit about a kid
bump
if you couldn't think of anything to post, why post?
we've had a bunch of threads about this, once people get bored of joking about we wuz vampyahs an shiet, everyone loses interest. as its not like there's a massive anne rice fanbase to farm for reaction.
Stfu b***h thanks for the bump
how are you this new
How are you this moronic to not realize if a homosexual replies it doesn't matter if they sage because they will provoke a BUMP just by the person replying to their post.
... which just makes the thread even less likely to draw anyone into it...
>threads need high quality to draw people into it on Cinemaphile
Ok newbie
your newness just shines brighter with every post, and it was blinding to start with
You literally are a fricking cum goozling moron if you think this board needs "high quality " discussion to attract replies.
my redditor friend, its pretty self-evident that
is 100% correct. for instance, just look at this thread.
>keeps replying
>thus keeps the thread alive
All I want is OP to be seen, the rest is irrelevant
>NOOOOOOO HIGH QUALITERINO ONLY
its funny how i got you to kill your own thread
its funny how you are addicted to sucking my wiener by giving (yous) and providing bumps
you know only morons try to blame others for their actions, right?
He's from Reddit, give him a break.
vampyahs>vampierz will correct form in the future.
>lestat be a vampire, but louis gon be a fampire
Why do people call me gae for liking this kind of stuff anons
I just think vampires are cool 🙁
because twilight made vampires gay
Wow, every main character is now worse and thats not even talking about their skin color, impressive
What's worse about Lestat?
They made him a Ventrue instead of the obvious Toreador.
>reboot
>now with more mutts
woah
What I don't get is why is Louis so ugly? Isn't he meant to be good looking? Like race aside, yeah I know it's silly and makes no sense, but at least cast a good looking black or brown dude to play an ethereal vampire.
beauty is white
literally that yeah. there's some supermodelass gay homie they coulda casted for this if they had to black it up but now it's not just about racial diversity, characters also gotta be fat and ugly to "truly represent" like, i thought the whiole point of television was being entertained by seeing people and stories that were unique, not the same ugloids i have to see everyday.
was going to ssk ths same exact question. WHY so fricking ugly? all of anne rice's vampires are supposed to be ridiculously good looking. you can't tell me they couldnt find some pretty twink light eyed mulatto for the role.
lestat is at least white and blond but too fricking old. pretty sure everyone in the books look like they are barely 25 at MOST. i think lestat was only 23. armand was 16.
>lestat personally sought out this man because he was so enamored with him
>he's just some average putz
lmao
It’s been answered a few times. Beauty is white. So “diversity,” by definition, needs to be ugly.
Not watching that garbage.
>adding a whole racial dimension to their history
Is Lestat gonna ask to be called massa or something?
>stopping the race swapping at the Villain
If you still deny this is a coordinated effort to make whites look bad and all minority's good you are beyond delusional.
What the frick? How has Anne Rice allowed this shit to happen? The notorious c**t who would not even allow fanfiction writers to ship Louis and Lestat together? Now Louis will definitely bottom for Lestat.
She died in 2021.
>How has Anne Rice allowed this shit to happen?
Once people own movie and tv rights they can go off and do what they want.
for all anyone knows she could've been trying to fight it. but she's dead
Her son was still involved in the show no? How much control did they have? I'm not sure, but I think he probably doesn't care.
it's like the tolkien state, and other rights holders today. maybe they do mind but can't say because it's racist, or are themselves the kind of fart sniffing liberal that think it's more important to be up to today's politics that conserve the identity of the material.
disgusting.
i don't even have more to say
movie about homosexuals that only white women watched is now...woke?
De Niro represents white women I guess
imagine the smell
Suffering from acute Black person exhauation bros.
kind of sucks that they ruined Claudias character but I imagine casting a child actor to play a 1000 year old vampire who isn't supposed to age in a series that will probably end up running for a couple of years would lead to some pretty big issues.
They could up her age to 14 and get some Ellen Paige (rip) growth stunted 21 year old to play her. Making her 19 is a problem, one of the main traits of the character was that she was trapped in a childs body and was agonizing over it. Who would give a shit about being 19 forever?
it was necessary to age her up when they made louis a Black person. no one would believe a black man would give a shit about a kid.
This. They completely miss the point of her character and should've just cut her if they didn't want to do it (nevermind wanting to adapt a piece of media that you're somehow disgusted by.)
The whole point of her character is that Louis feels bad for a dying little girl and tries to "save" her by turning her into a vampire, and then it fixes his and Lestat's troubled relationship briefly because they have an adopted child together, but then she goes absolutely batshit as she grows up but is still stuck in the body of a child.
All this is going to do is make people seethe about grooming a "young girl" because she's 19. Unless they're going full puritan and cutting the kissing scene, too.
It will also be stupid because it won't make sense for Armand to kill her anymore because she'll be just as strong and developed as Louis and Lestat.
They should've just adapted her mermaid story, or that one about the girl in the motorcycle gain
>that one about the girl in the motorcycle gain
which one is that? I've been looking for more female written delinquent kino after finishing S.E Hinton's novels
So sad
>Louis, a plantation/slave owner is a Black person in this.
It’s all so tiresome.
naw homie, they made him a pimp. its even written in the OP
And that doesn't make any sense either. Louis is uptight as hell before and after vamp, he wouldn't be pimping as a human.
no you see hes a good pimp who respects his hoes, its how he became the most successful pimp in 20th century New Orleans.
on that note, why set a fricking vampire origin story in the 20th century? movies giving louis the ability to see the sunrise again, sky blue, etc, was a pretty awesome moment.
They really want to ruin every moment.
It also doesn't make any sense. There were black slaveowners. They wouldn't even have to really dwell on the fact, either. He could just be a freed black person who vamps out and kills people who try to frick with him. That, or he could just use Lestat as his alibi.
>Black person
Wont watch
It will be cancelled in after one season
>cancelled after one season
It won't be cancelled until the cost of making it begins to outweigh the amount of ESG money it earns them. They'll add more blacks and gays before they finally cancel it.
Normies in the comments desperately trying to drum up some enthusiasm and failing lmao
no, please, help me here
>make show about vampires
>the main character is a normal human age
>its set in modern day
what the frick is even the point?
reminder anne rice got dementia later in life and retconned the origin of vampires into being ancient alien experimentation on the man who eventually founded atlantis
also all past appearances of angels and heaven were just holographic alien AI simulations
look it up if you don't believe me
>make claudia 19
>yo dis shit wack i finna cant not get carded an dey won let me in da club at all why did you maek me so young why din u ax me
also, is she going to be dying of aids or something?
Poor Anne Rice's not even cold yet
she was still alive when it started production. suffering from dementia, but alive.
Suffering from dementia? Source.
its mostly theory for why her last few books were REALLY bad.
They were always hit and miss though, especially after the first three. I recently read Armand (which is from 1998) because it was one of the few I wanted to get through that I never got around to back in the day. Holy frick it was awful, it was a retread of a story we already knew, but if you needed any more reason for it not being necessary, anything new is literally just smut. Like I feel Rice put it together from private porn she should have just kept private. That vice of hers of just making the plot crawl for ages while she's busy doing gay sex scenes is like elevated to infinity. If you reduced it to just the actual plotline, good/interesting scenes/ideas etc., the thing would have probably been like 50 pages (probably the length of the original telling of the tale inThe Vampire Lestat Rice likely started from).
as low as her lows were during her prime,
was far, far worse.
Yeah don't disagree with you there.
Honestly don't give a shit about diversity in itself. I just hope the whole thing is not packed with ideology.
Idealogy?
>Idealogy?
Man bad, wamman stronk, class, race, gender.
>Honestly don't give a shit about diversity in itself. I just hope the whole thing is not packed with ideology.
They race-swapped the characters. They already packed it with ideology. If you think it won't infect every part of the movie you are wrong.
>but they claim to be true to vision of Anne Rice.
They always lie.
What the living frick why the frick Interview With the Vampire ? Just why Interview With the Vampire ? What the hell. It wasnt that popular , audience is old and don't care . It Will flop badly .
Some kind of rights were probably about to expire or revert
>vampirism as a metaphor for white privilege
lmao
This post is the extent of which I will spend thinking about this movie.
Interview? I thought they were gonna start from Vampire Lestat, I think that's what Anne Rice had said some time ago.
AYO HOL 'UP
It's me, I'm the emo.
Why do they try to make Lestat look like such a villain when they bought the rights to the whole series and every single other book is literally Lestat wank? I get that it's Louis' version of events, but still.
SO YOU SAYIN'
I saw some homosexuals argue that Claudia can't be a kid actor cause the actress would age while its filmed. But doesn't the character Claudia die really soon in the story anyway so that point is mote? Or are there more canon books where she is suddenly back?
someone answer please
I come to Cinemaphile to forget about everything being terrible, not to be reminded of it. Please don't talk about this again or I will feel very sad.
Test. Also hard pass from me.
here we go
lmao this is like the jap version of Tarantino, randomly inserting his own personal rant into his movie
Man we could have had River vampire kino.
>The actress who played Claudia wasn't very cute
>Not beautiful either
e-girl Dunst not pretty, or even cute? Claudia biting on that lady's finger was plenty cute! Jap women have some absurdly high standards to make such a claim.
>The actress who played Claudia wasn't very cute
>Claudia wasn't cute
eyyyyy frick you buddy.
Why does no one know the answer to: "I saw some homosexuals argue that Claudia can't be a kid actor cause the actress would age while its filmed. But doesn't the character Claudia die really soon in the story anyway so that point is mote? Or are there more canon books where she is suddenly back?"
I think she does come back way down the line but there's literally no way they'll get that far into the series. Plus, they could just recast her or age her up when she's resurrected.
There wouldn't even be a need to cast her right away, either. Claudia doesn't show up until like halfway through the story and only encompasses like a third of it.
Any breasts in this? Not gonna waste my time if not
My opinion here: It’s an inappropriate story to have children in. Kirsten Dunst discussed how disturbing and gross some of the filming was to her as a minor. I don’t need to see romantic/complex relationships between a child and adult portrayed on TV. The OG story is in the book.
There’s no way to top the original. Just too many amazing actors in one film. Prime Christian Slater. Prime Brad Pitt. Prime Tom Cruise. Prime Antonio Banderas. It’s crazy. Each one of these actors could have carried a whole movie on their shoulders easily, but you have FOUR (4) of them in one film, plus a young Kirstan Dunst. The movie could have been totally unscripted and just about them making paper airplanes and throwing them at each other and it would have been amazing. It really is all about charisma and the choice of actor. Hollywood today just doesn’t have a pool of good actors with charisma to utilize. It’s almost like they’re just picking random people for these parts.
As Anne Rice would have wanted it, she was always a black worshipper
