You're wrong about that. A New Hope and Return of the Jedi both aren't as streamlined as Empire Strikes Back. There's just weird cringe crap in both. But there's no little kids on the screen so that helps a fricking load.
That's half of the problem with the prequels. You could edit them down into 1, maybe 2 movies and it would be better. Problem is, a lot of the annoying scenes actually /establish/ things in later scenes.
