What an odd thing to say.
Also I've working on an Invincible fanfic where Immortal gets a power boost from Celtic deities when the Mauler twins wake him up.
Still working on the general idea though.

That actually would have been cool to see. Viltrumites live for thousands of years, but Immortal is literally immortal. They could both give Mark some good arguments for which side to pick since lifespan was a huge factor in Nolan's argument. The only issue I see that raising is Mark being "invincible" because of his unbreakable will, and him needing convincing on which side to pick would call that into question. If that wasn't his only selling point as a character, it would have been neat to see.

The implication is that he's being manipulated by robot's brain-in-a-jar, and the eventual loss of Kate. He even references Mark leaving Earth and the virus, so it's pretty clear it's meant to be one continuous timeline without any paradoxes.

It was an excuse for a time travel story, and it made the ending to the book even worse than it already was

well I ain't watching someone's youtube channel for you but you're either referring to the emancipation proclamation, which was part of the wartime powers of the President, enumerated in Article II of the USC - broad powers and intentionally so because of the age in which that document was written and the nature of warfare of that era; but also because the US had significant numbers of actual conspirators against it operating within the Federal government during the war, debasing the sources of their power - effectively, slavery - was easily within the scope of wartime powers and indeed not doing so might well have been considered granting comfort to the enemy in time of war; the suspension of habeas corpus specifically and only for spies and military officers was ratified in a bill passed by Congress, and was not therefore an abuse of Presidential powers

or you may be referring to the decision to go to war in the first place against the Confederacy - well, the Confederacy was by its own declaration a different country and one which immediately declared war on the United States at Fort Sumter by firing on that position

weird thing tonight is that multiple boards are having to deal with your pisspoor understanding of slavery and US history, which suggests to me this is either a fricking /misc/ raid or we're just on the ass end of some... I guess from the antagonism and the wide-eyed inability to understand westerners at all... Russian? but not actually in Russia, maybe somewhere in the middle east, in a call center

The Viltrumite aging thing is a bit vague. I know Oliver is considered vastly inferior to Mark because he'll "only" live to be hundreds and maybe even thousands, so I think it's implied that Viltrumites live to be over 10 000 years? Of course, then there are things like Mark saying he doesn't care if he lives to be a million years, but I don't think we can take what Mark says as fact. It would be kind of crazy if Viltrumites could live to be a million, so I'm going to assume it's less than that... So minimum guess is 20 thousand, and highest is 500 thousand, sound reasonable?

Immortal is (assuming he is an anatomically modern human) at most 200-250 thousand years old but the stone age lasted until about 6000 years ago and there are still tribes today limited to stone tools, so it's kind of hard to say. I don't think he's meant to be from some isolated tribe who were in the stone until less than 6000 years ago though, so let's just assume that is not the case. My guess is then that he is meant to be 10 thousand to 100 thousand years old then.

So even though it's probably that Nolan is older, they're probably meant to be in part parallel characters. Like how they both objectively know they'll outlive almost everyone around them, yet the "lesser beings" still have an effect on them. With the obvious difference being that Nolan is from a race that just naturally lives an insane lifespan and thus his first instinct is to not really feel attached to someone who is lesser than him, while the Immortal started out as a normal human and didn't live most of his life with anyone who could relate the experience of living far longer than anyone else, meaning his instinct is to make the best of it.

I thought Viltrumite hybrids basically became full on Viltrumite as time progresses

        Anonymous

kinda? viltrumites genes are slowly replacing the partners genes to make them as close as a viltrumite. the proccess for someone like oliver whose species live 1-2 years is very high. we do know that as time passes, the hybrid will eventually become pretty much viltrumite, but the other parents genes define how much time is needed to get there.

        Anonymous

I mean, yeah? Not sure if Kirkman ever really thought it out but I think the implication is that the "mutation hump" is far too steep with Thraxans? Because there are very few anatomical differences between Viltrumites and Humans, Human DNA has very little resistance to mutating into Viltrumite DNA and thus Mark was basically a Viltrumite from the start. While on the other hand, Oliver had some hue of purple in his pigmentation until he was fully grown, and even then he has an inherent attraction to insect like features. There is the possibility that by the he was murdered he was still going through his mutation and even seemed like he had aged past Mark at that point, implying he just went too far before before he could be become Viltrumite.

So to simplify this with guessed estimates:
Mark, at birth 95% Viltrumite, at adolescence 99.99% Viltrumite.
Oliver, at birth 65% Viltrumite, at adolescence 80% Viltrumite.

        But that's just a guess.

          >Oliver, at birth 65% Viltrumite, at adolescence 80% Viltrumite.
Mark doesn't display Viltrum powers til he's almost out of HS, Oliver is flying around kicking ass as a little kid.

Yes but developing powers is not dependant on purity. Even for purebloods they won't get powers right away.

            Anonymous

Mark was bred with human DNA, that is eventually revealed to be the single best compatible match for viltrumite DNA. At the end of the comic Mark is pretty a 100% viltrumite, his human gene has been completely overridden as Hickman explains in the Compendium by claiming viltrumite DNA is akin to a virus.

      Anonymous

honestly, it would have been cool to explore this difference. nolan lives with people who are already powerful and technically inmortal, while the inmortal is forced to live around mortals and tries to find a purpose or reason to this, implied to be heroism to help the common man. it would been cool if we had moments of mark asking the inmortal just how much "500 years" changed him.

I think it's more of a joke about how older characters like Spider-Man tend to get away with less punchier names that seem kind of obvious because the genre didn't quite yet have it's big names.

If you look at pre-80's names of characters who are still around, you often get:
        >Guy who is superior to normal men is Superman
        >The man in armor is named Iron Man
        >The powerful man was named Power Man
        >The man in a scorpion suit is named the Scorpion
        >The wonderous woman is named Wonder Woman
        >Man dressed like a bat is Batman
        >Guy who gets his powers from a green lantern is named Green Lantern
        >The man who was transformed into a lizard is named the Lizard
        >Guy based on the archetypal image of Robin Hood as a green clad archer is named Green Arrow
        >The marvelous man is named Captain Marvel
        >The hulking figure is named the Hulk
        >The thing from the swamp is named Swamp Thing
        >The man in a rhino costume is named the Rhino
        >The man with ice powers is named Iceman
        >The toadlike mutant is named Toad

That said, we don't know how long it takes him to regen after dying and we know that he's died 1000s of times. So it depends on your definition, but either way If you count all the collective death years as "sleep" then still probably yeah.

I like how the show did the GOTG fight. Oneshotting the world's strongest heroes isn't showing how threatening Nolan is. Its showing how pathetic Earth's heroes are.
