You see the trend among morons, they hate most fathers in general due to issues but a specific kind of dad always strikes the nerves just right. It’s the mundane working class one that works a lot, usually holding traditional values and is set in his ways.

homie Eve's dad is bad because is fricking up his daughters sense of self-worth since she was a kid, just because hes not a genocidal maniac doesnt mean he doesnt need to improve as a person, a lot

That's not true though. You made that up after the fact to justify your dislike of a character which is based entirely on vibes.

At no point does he belittle her, say she can't do something, make light of her abilities or infantilise her. He argues with her that he wants her to forgive Rex and get back in the team because he doesn't want her to do the super hero act alone. What's more is that this is clearly what Eve's mother ALSO wants. But people aren't calling her abusive.

Watch the Atom Eve special. He’s been treating her poorly and calling her a freak since she was a little kid. He’s not a good dad in any way. He’s not Nolan bad, sure, but very few people after the power to wield their son as a weapon to destroy buildings and put face first through a train.

It’s no wonder she idealizes what her family should have been so hard.

to be fair he is like 17 or 18 year old kid in that pic who from his perspective just lost his dad. By all account Nolan was a great dad, loving husband, and great hero up until the incident with the fake JL, the bad shit that happened was so out of tune with what Mark thought of his dad that the first thing he did before they fought was assume that his dad was being mind controlled.

The sad thing is families exist they are real. Where mothers and fathers do everything in their power to make sure their kids have a good life your. family just didn't love you you're projecting your life onto everyone else

They don't exist, family means nothing, there are strangers out there who are generally more similar to you than your family members, at least 1/3 of father's are raising kids from another man without knowing it, during a study they measured the gifts children get for their birthdays and they get more from their maternal grandmother than the grandma from their father's side because people subconsciously know that the kid may not actually be family
Hell there are people who give their kids away and people who adopt them, there are father's who leave, mothers who leave and siblings who raise each other
Just because people believe in family and act as if family is a thing doesn't make it real, if I believe that going outside with an umbrella means it won't rain and I carry an umbrella for two months and it doesn't rain it doesn't mean the umbrella has magical powers but I'm still dry, I'm not telling you that illusion can't be powerful but it's still illusion, incest had to get banned over and over because family members would frick each other, it only eventually became something we don't want to do and the same is true for everything, maybe in 200 years the concept of father will disappear entirely. Water, soil, fire, those are real things and will continue to be real forever

It's not proving anything outside of the blunt reality of the familial unit. This has been displayed not only in the animal kingdom but throughout human history in the vast majority of cultures, civilized or otherwise.
Genetics are also the biggest factor of how you're going to develop and you're overall success in life, family is a concept literally hard wired into the brain and so saying it isn't real is like saying cheese isn't real and that pic related is just "curdled milk"

Nobody said you should forgive rapists Satan. I'm saying that a bad family does not invalidate the concept of a family or the reality that families exist on a real psychological and genetic level, because it exists on a fundamental level for the human psyche. A faulty familial unit doesn't change that, its why people have lasting psychological trauma that typically defines their behavior and relationship patterns from surviving child abuse.

The only difference between me and a black kid is that my father had a job that's it, woke people can bring up any bullshit they want, I grew up a trashy Black person who ate candy instead of dinner, didn't know how to brush my teeth until I was an adult and was on a wienertail of pills because I was aggressive to other kids, hell I didn't know my body needed water so I had a glass of milk and a can of soda and that was it and peeing hurt and my pee smelled awful and was dark yellow and I thought that's how it was supposed to be
My parents would frick off all day and give a couple bucks to a neighbors daughter to look after me and she thought she was hilarious to show me porn, I was like 7? I would have been fricking molested by her if my parents didn't get rid of her fir unrated issues

This is Cinemaphile a place full of psychopaths who don't understand some people can't shake loving someone even if they committed horrible acts, because they can't bring themselves to love someone on a regular occasion.

Bro if someone I knew was a murderer, I would not "unconditionally" love them. I think that's more the sociopathic take, IMO.

I mean, later on given that we find out Nolan has a genetic drive towards violence and conquest and his upbringing and that Mark has the same genetics, I can understand cutting his dad a bit of slack.

Just saying, I wouldn't throw the "Cinemaphile is full of maladjusted people" card at someone saying they WOULDN'T support a murderer. Even if it was their dad.

Depends on the reason honestly. If it's a guy that was killing and raping kids, I would say, yeah no, dead to me.

Brainwashed into turning your genetic tendency towards violence and conquest into vanguarding the space empire? Eh.

I wouldn’t say brainwashed. Indoctrinated is more like it. Personally I felt it worked for comic Invincible but cartoon Nolan and Mark’s fight showed a lot more sadism. But yeah, if my dad mass murdered someone that would kinda have me cut him off.

Still comes off as full of crap to say you can just cut your parent who prior to act was fully loving and saved millions of people off that easy.

Anyone that has seen drug abuse in a family knows how hard it is to rip that cancer out and those are often good for nothings. Omi man would easily be a swirl of conflicting emotions when put on the spot.

                Anonymous

I dunno, man, there's a difference between drug abuse, and murder. Especially if it's clear cut actual murder. Of a lot of people. I'm not trying to step on any toes if you had a bad experience with a family member, but I think you'd have to have something wrong inside to still have love for someone who went on a purposeful killing spree.

                Anonymous

Well the show has done pretty well showing the conflict. Neither mark or debi have been trying to excuse it and instead what you would expect the grieving process to be like. Next ep will probably be a better indicator depending on Mark's reactions.

Most victims never forget the love of the person they were before the acts but understand why they must be punished. The comics were pretty light in that respect.

Because that's what's at stake here, Mark's up against a monster who'd kill countless innocents just to prove a basic point. If it was just Mark and Nolan on a deserted world that'd be one thing, but starting a fight on mantis world could mean the deaths of billions, he has to at least try to talk his way out

I remember a big thread a while back about this part of the story.

In the real world, you can find multiple cases of children of family members crying or "caring" for their parents or loved ones, despite them objectively being bad people or doing bad things. This is not a "let's hug it out" or "it is what is", this is just someone who's viewed this person in a way more positive and emotional way before compared to now, and despite UNDERSTANDING that they are a bad person, can't fully come around to hate them....

    Or not.

Tons of people (including people I personally know), have shitty family members and/or parents, and have come to fully hate them or disconnect from, and their POV or feelings are valid. I really think its dumb that people pull out the "they're your [insert familial relation]", it's dumb, preachy

    >TL;DR?
Mark is neither right or wrong for how he views/cares for his Dad. As long as Mark (or anyone really) acknowledges a persons specific actions and demand them to get better and STAY better, then that's fine.

I will say Debbie's reaction to Omni is probably the most rational or sane. She's never really the same afterwards but she grows to love Nolan again

Don't think so, the show rushed to Mark meeting Nolan again without a fraction of the mess Mark was dealing on Earth at the time, Mark was dealing with shit that made him wish to see his father again, meanwhile show!Mark is fresh from the trauma from fighting his father still, it would be awkward for him to just break down and hug Nolan, wanting him to come back.

    It'd be pretty tonally weird.
I think you can sort of excuse it in the comic but not in the show. In the comic they didn't really highlight the carnage of people in their fight like they did in the show.
Like yes. A shit ton of people died, but it's not given nearly the same level of attention.

      Anonymous

The body count is irrelevant, thousands of people died in their fight both in the comic and show, the difference is that in show Nolan was more of a bastard by killing some on a whim; what would make it weird in the show is Mark meeting his dad again so soon, in the comic he was going a series of frick ups that made him realize the world without a powerful superhero like his father is pretty hard to maintain, so suddenly meeting his father again broke him, wanting to have that safe heaven that Nolan once provided by just being there, regardless of him revealing himself to be a space tyrant.

Comparably, in the show Mark hasn't gone through all the fumbles he went through without his father as a crutch, specially concerning the fact some of those events in the comic got rearranged to happen when Nolan was still around in the show, like Mark fighting against Battle Beast.

Maybe? I don't think they'd duke it out. Mark is clearly not in the best mental headspace, so seeing his dad NOT trying to beat him into a pulp is at least a good thing on some perspective.

In the comics the mom is also portrayed as a pathetic drunk until she gets dick. I imagine she won't be so quick to forgive Nolan in the show

to be fair he is like 17 or 18 year old kid in that pic who from his perspective just lost his dad. By all account Nolan was a great dad, loving husband, and great hero up until the incident with the fake JL, the bad shit that happened was so out of tune with what Mark thought of his dad that the first thing he did before they fought was assume that his dad was being mind controlled.
It's perfectly rational response from a teenager.

i love her so much for this

With only 50 or so of them left I'm surprised Space Freddy Mercury wasn't at least trying to put some babies in the women. It's not going to fix the inbred thing but would help them bring up the numbers a bit. Viltrumites could probably conquer planets up to a few days before birth.

            Anonymous

Nah. The Viltrumite Empire is extremely spread out as is. Who knows how many worlds a single viltrumite is assigned to? A pregnant female means who knows how many worlds without an overlord.

Remember they bread only aggression in their race. The females get extremely resentful being knocked up. They also probably have some sort of rotation system of which female is knocked up as well given the numbers.
