      I think Holy Grail captures the spirit of the humor and the original show much better. Gilliam just had a more creative style and better understood the cinematic qualities of the group's work than Jones, who had a much more conventional and flat style that emphasized the writing and performances, that being his main role, but I don't think it really complimented the material. I get they were also parodying classic Hollywood epics that also had very stately, aloof directing styles, but it just doesn't work as well as the style of Holy Grail imo.
